I like Colin Powell too but he should not be a candidate. he did not have the integrity to resign even though he knew it was a stupid mistake to go into Iraq. My Prime Minister is even more of a prick but at least believed in the mistake he was making. None of the rest of our government, military or intelligence did though.

Termyn8or -> RE: 2008 US Presidential Elections (3/14/2007 1:51:29 PM)

Sometimes we need to set our sights a bit lower.

To explain, I have said it before, President is a tough goal. I'm glad to see some enthusiasm obout Paul, but in less than two years can we make a dent ?

A couple of people were just sent to jail in Ohio for election fraud. It is said that Bush really did lose.

If ONE Senator would've signed the resolution, Bush might not have had a second term.

While his opponent was just about as unappealing, he would not have been on his second term. A second term President can be bold because he knows he can't run again. A first term President might not have damaged our country as much.

So, as I said somewhere else, maybe Paul should go for Senator. Then his voice is 1 in 100 instead of 1 in 435.

Problem is if he does that he may run out of time. I don't know his exact age, but he is no spring chicken. He is at the very least in his late 50s. So add eight years to that and we have an old President. But a wise one.

Incedentally, Ron Paul and a few others have uncovered a treasonous plot by the Bush cronies to move toward merging the US with Canada and Mexico, replacing the dollar with the "amero" and making our courts and laws subordinate to an "American Parliment".

This is fact folks, that's what they are trying to do, and didn't tell congress. Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, Virgil Goode and Walter Jones have introduced a resolution opposing this (I can't find the word, nothing is more treasonous than this, Bush should be executed for treason).

Mexico has a website of course, I hear they tell all about it. Dunno about Canada.

It'll be interesting to see the voting record on that resolution. What would you think of a representative who voted for combining our country with two others ? It is alot easier to get the word out in a congressional district and get somebody voted out than say, the senate. I'd yell it on the streetcorners if "my" congressman voted against that resolution. Even though I didn't vote for him, PEOPLE WHO DID SHOULD KNOW !

At this stage of the game, I really think "stick a fork in them, they're done" applies now. The democrats could probably run a potato(e) and win in '08. Might not be better, but sometimes anything different is better.

Anybody want to get something going for Ron Paul ? Money for some printing and postage perhaps ? Something like that, I'll chip in. We got about a year, even if he doesn't win, if he can put a dent in it, that may be a wakeup call for other politicians.

I am very glad to see people are thinking about this. The world is going to hell in a handbasket. Only people can change that.

Maybe we can get somewhere, we are talking politics here and there is no name calling, insults, nothing of the sort. If we sort it out, maybe we can have a positive impact on the human condition.

We can't fight money. It is not all about money. Getting the word out only requires creativity and possibly some ingenuity. Gobs and gobs of money are not what are going to get the job done. They have unlimited money, and we have damn near none. And if you think you are doing well, think again. Remember the very old saying "another day another dollar" ?, well that is the equivalent of about $60,000 a year now. The people who need to be voted out have billions. And thus they have control of the media.

We can't spend millions on TV ads, full pages in the news and all that. But we can do other things. Ever start a small business ? Think of it that way. Just spread the word, and you'll catch some people who do see the problem, and care, and then they spread the word. Just make a nice size dent in the election, even the primary. They might sell us out every day right now, but they know damn well they can't do that without votes. Votes are more important than money to them.

Noted anti-gun guy Charles Schumer has been strangely silent on the gun issue since he became a senator. Seems there are people who need guns in upstate NY.

Shows to go ya.

What do you think about Lou Dobbs and Tom Tancredo?

I would like to see Mr. Dobbs establish a voting record first. One of the few issues where we are of like mind, is that we both feel that we are electing people to do what we tell them, not to pretend them have some mandate to do whatever they want. (As an aside, I had a laugh when people slammed Senator Kerry's liberal voting record. I didn't agree with many of his votes, but since he is a junior Senator from Mass., I think he was supporting the people that put him in office.)

Congressman Tancredo need to tackle some heavier legislation, before he would be of interest to me. Right now, he seems to be only hitting the very popular.

Don't get me wrong ... I "like" both men, but can't honestly say I would vote for either, at this point. Certainly Congressman Tancredo at least, could change that between now and election day.

Since we are talking about who I would vote for in the Democratic party, I am torn between Obama
and Gore.

Obama seems like somebody who can think his way through a brick wall in time.

My opinion of Gore went way up when he lost the stick up his keister trying to get elected.

I cannot put my finger on my distaste for Clinton.

I vote in the primaries so I can make a difference to who gets nominated.  Did not make much difference until California moved the day we vote from almost dead last to where we are an actual player in the elections.

Having said that, I will probably vote Green since Monkeyboy is no longer an issue.

You were kind enough to put words to my sense of unease about McCain, Sinergy, allow me to try and repay that.

Hillary is smart, shrewd, ruthless and a little paranoid.  It's Nixon with a vagina.

Sinergy, then you'll be glad to know that CNN just reported that in a poll of Democrats that Al Gore is now more "popular" than either Hillary Clinton or Senator  Aba Daba of Illinois!
Man, Hillary will be winging ashtrays tonight I bet!
I think they said that Al Gore bested Aba Daba by 15 points and Hillary by 4 points.
And the real insult to those two,...he's not even running! lol

Thank you for your words, WyrdRich.

There is another aspect to it, however.  On the one hand, she could rehire all of her husband's brain trust and actually do good things for a change.  We could use 4 years of somebody with a brain in the White House.

On the other hand there is something distastefully dynastic about electing another Clinton to high office.  Her husband hand crafted his entire life prior to election with the goal in mind that he wanted to become president of the United States.  So I wonder whether the woman he married has a similar bent to her personality.  I am always a trifle dubious about people who want me to like and respect them.

I suspect Al Gore finally fired his image consultants and started to show he has strong ideals and a personality, and people actually relate to that.  Even if people dont necessarily agree with the message, people tend to respect somebody that actually has a message.

Nixon was more than a little paranoid. COINTELPRO anyone? Of course, being a criminal, he had plenty to worry about.

Ross Perot isn't running next year?

I voted for him.

Wait, is that the last time I voted?

Fargle, true, I wonder if Vince Foster's ghost haunts her.
Wyrdrich, LOL @ Nixon with a vagina!

Archer -> RE: 2008 US Presidential Elections (3/14/2007 6:17:56 PM)

With the primary situation being so early it could make a good run for an Independant since the campaign will be limited earlier than usual. I'm expecting someone jumping ship and running on their own from either party.

I'd say Hillary is farther along in the disease than Nixon was before he took the office.  "Vast right-wing conspiracy" and all that.

Anybody want to lay odds she'll have a secret plan to end the war?

popeye1250 -> RE: 2008 US Presidential Elections (3/14/2007 6:52:06 PM)

Wyrdrich, how can Hillary have a secret plan to end the war if all the people she'll have involved in that plan are, "out to get me!"

And she comes off as phony, like she's trying to "act" presidential. I think she's much like the "old" Al Gore in that way, and as Sinergy pointed out, Gore is much more likable now that he seems to be himself. I think Hillary could benefit from the same.

By lying even to those closest to her, of course.  Things will get easier for her after Patriot Act 3 or 4, when she can just have people shot, and not even need to have the body moved to a park.

That's what you do in a primary ... play to the audience. Lots of Democrats eat that shit up.

Republican do the same thing ... painting all liberals with the same brush.
