More and more scientists are coming out with studies showing that this is a "normal cyclic condition", proven from their study of the evidence in the ground itself, that same ground that they are studing to find other clues to the origin of the planet, and other history.  Granted some of it is being influenced by man, and the burning of everything from trash to fosil fuel, but that has also been influenced milenia ago by large scale forest fires and other things, like volcanic eruptions.  I have to agree, it is a MONEY thing and everyone is trying to jump on the band wagon, especially since Mr. "I invented the internet" is a big voice for it

Mixie, it could also be part of the natural cycle of heating and cooling we know the earth goes through, we are technically still in the last ice age. It could also be because of a change in the Sun... Mars, Venus and Jupiter also appear to be heating up.  It could be that we are in a slightly less dense region of space so more heat hits us.  It could be that the Earth was naturally warming( we know it was hotter around 800-2000 years ago) and a couple of huge Volcanoes caused a temporary colling effect( We actually know this to be true) and as it wears off the temps shoot back up.  It could be a combination of these things along with Mans Co2 output.  Or the Co2 could be up because of the natural warming.  It is apperantly not a safe enough assumption for Gore to get a smaller home

So the question is what do we do about it.  From the Kyoto treaty we can plainly see that the World and Scientists do not consider it a real problem, or else they would not exempt large portions of the globe.  All Kyoto will do is move industry to the exempt places( China, India, Africa) faster, increasing the CO2 and other actually harmfull pollution.   So the supporters of Kyoto (who all have clear Political reasons for supporting)  seem to put other goals above actually lowering Greenhouse gas emmisions, to me indicates they do not consider it to be a serious threat.

That being said, by all means, lets get greener energy.  Quit wasting time and energy on the Net, get a part time job and put a windmill on your roof, oh wait thats work and not as fun as being an activist.  Not sexy at all.  There are many good reasons to convert and conserve with out the nonsene of Kyoto.

agreed!

JP Morgan pulled funding for whom i always felt was the one of the most intelligent inventors on the planet whos intentions once known had all the funding pulled.  This was the early 1900's he was going to give the world free energy.  Put up your tv antenna and power your whole house with self sustained free energy.  Once that got out he went to other governments and got the same story since there was no money in it...  and guess what, most of this technology died with him.

And who is JP Morgan? um...  a banker  LOL

Anyway i think the way to go is hydrogen and resonators.   But since there is still oil to exploit and huge money in it try to get the funding to develope it. that is develope somethine that does not require a source as in a business to renew it for us.

Oh i did just read about a guy who developed a motor that runs on pure magnetism with no power input but not sure if its capable of doing any work.

Popeye,
There are many more than one. Investment firms are geared up to offer a large range of stocks in companies perceived as "green".

I'm into about a 1/2 dozen stocks in the rapidly expanding "green industry" sector. Sold off all the "sub prime" financial companies in November after the election and as a result I'm up nearly $100k. Thinking about buying a big 8 cylinder Hummer with the profits.

I know it is small potatoes compared to Mr. Gore and his boys, but the 'crumbs' are very satisfying and appreciated. Hope that the head bobbing continues!

Merc, good for you!
I bet that Hummer will get AT LEAST 8 miles per gallon! Maybe 9!
The fact that The Reverand Al Gore now has a Corporation to buy and sell carbon credits and sell his stock takes any credibility away that he had.
And, it just bolsters my argument.
Him and the other flim flamers are just positioning themselves to make money if they can foist their tale on us.
One thing for sure, they wouldn't be doing it if there were no *Taxpayer dollars* involved!

Mix, "what if?"
Look at the things that Luckydog pointed out.
The problem for the charletons and scammers is that they can't make money off of those things that he mentioned.
Look at the thing that the scammers latched onto.
That's the one thing that they CAN make money off of!
Cooincidence?

Mix, "what if?"
That's a classic Sales pitch too!
"But I don't need insurance."
"What if you had no life insurance and died and your family had to sell the house?" (That's called "overcomming an objection")
"Would you want that to happen?" ("Porcupine!")
"Well,.....no."
"I didn't think so, so now I can HELP you." ("Closing")
Of course the odds of that happening are something like  1 in 2,000 or whatever so you can see why insurance companies make *so much money*!
What I'm saying is that I see that same "Sales Pitch" from the "global warming" scammers and charletons.
In business the *REALLY BIG* money isn't made by engineers, accountants etc but by the SALES PEOPLE!
Mix, think about it, if someone is trying to SELL you something what's the usual reason for that?

that is what this country has come to.  protect you from everything conceptual real or imagined.  (anything to get government as far up your butt as possible)

It used to be that someone had to be found guikty but now we are governed on what could "possibly" happen, (real or imagined), not what actually happens and have volumes of laws and ordinances to support this idiocy.

as an example i have som lannon stone in the back yard that is in a small pile on cement.  i had to have it 1 foot of the ground because rats might dig under it!  this is not shit, i told them exactly how do they think a rat is going to dig through cement to get under it?

they responded "i am sorry sir but thats the ordinance and i am just doing my job"...

Pre-emptive government - land of the prisoner, um i mean free...  So far global warming looks like the same thing and as i said in another thread that my guess is that we may be nearing the end of of the cycle as well and the reason for that thought is that everyone can spend lots of money and drive business to put more money into the dead horse oil rather than new energy and then when the cycle naturally becomes colder again claim what a wonderfuol job "government", are doing as they solved this big problem even tho there is no hard evidence it is real in as much as anything we can do about it!

This is a major part of the reason why you're not going have consensus because so few people are willing to actually entertain both sides of the issue. Of the few that do, they're considered "extremists" on the other side, depending upon which side the critic is that makes the claim.

Bravo.

Ah but i once did entertain both sides and and was totally nuetral and am willing to acquiesce as soon as i can see some data that supports "real man made" warming i will jump to that side but until then i will not.

According to the way Al talks we should have all gone up in a blaze with the levels of co he is showing.   He shows how the temperature has always risen in proportion to the rise in co, (but then that could be vice versa too), but anyway on this last graph he shows the co is considerably more double than it has ever been on any other temp rise in history but the significant thing to note is that "there is no corresponding temperature rise" that is significantly different than any previous cycle in history.

Realone, yeah, and how does Reverand Gore explain the temperature rise during the Roman times but no fossil fuel burning engines then?
There were only what, maybe 40 million people on earth then as opposed to 6 Billion now and the temperature went way up?
Talk about "an inconvenient truth!"
I would venture a guess that he doesn't want to talk about that because it doesn't support his "theory."
After watching some of his "testimony" before that committee I felt like taking a shower!
"The Planet has a Fever?"
And he knows this how?
I wonder if he's ever talked to the majority of scientists who call "global warming" "junk science?"
The way to shut up the "U.N.", the Reverand Gore and the other scammers is for the congress to come out and say "No Taxpayer Dollars" for anything to do with "global warming."
Two weeks later you'll see them all -"working in a different field."
"What happened? You don't believe in "global warming" anymore?"
"Well, it just didn't, "work out."
"Other interests."
"Get that fuckin camera out of my face!"
"What happens to your stockholders who stood to make Billions off of the Taxpayers money in "global warming?" "Will you give them their money back for their now worthless stock?"
"Talk to my Attorney!"
I think the answer to that question would be "NO."

"You give me fever!
"FE-VER,.......in the mornin',..... fever al a through the night."
"You give me fever!"

If it wasn't for global warming, I would be living on or under a glacier.  So would many of my fellow North Americans.  Last week it snowed here.  Monday it was 80.  That is why the are called "average" temperatures,  we need to look at them over millenia rather than weeks.

It seems to me that all of this talk on global warming is causing the most serious environmental problem (population explosion) from getting much attention.  We are in the process of putting 1 billion more people on this planet in a 12 year time period.  The population explosion is increasing at an exponetial rate.

The population explosion is fueled in part by the petrochemicals (fossil fuels) that are part of the green revolution.  It's hard to know exactly when we will have burned off all of fossil fuels, but it seems likely that it will be sometime near the end of this century.

Without fossil fuels, global warming will no longer be a problem, but being stuck on a planet that can not longer support it's population will be a problem.  Yeah, there are a lot of unknowns like exactly how much nuclear fuel is available or if fussion will ever be developed.  There is also time for us to try to slow the population explosion, but I just don't see any effort yet.

Population collapses due to environmental degredation have occurred throughout history.  I don't see any reason to think that history will not repeat itself again this time on a global scale.  There is still hope, but I see no effort being made.

i might be a little off topic here but i wondered . how many people who are on the whole global warming bus actually beileve humans have the potential to kill their planet . sure we might destroy the ozone irreperably cause heatwaves and global flooding . but folks just how long has the planet been here before man ? do you really thing what we do to it will matter . we`ll kill ourselves a few million species of bugs and animals . and whats left with adapt . because of barny the purple dinosaur people seem to forget that we werent the dominant species on the planet since the begining of time . by earths standerds we`ve been in control about .000002 of a second

BTW for the record im in favour of polution control . but im doing it for my survival not the planets

Remember the hole in the ozone? Remember what caused it?
I just can't believe when i hear people say that humans can't effect the planet in any seriously harmful way.
To me when someone says that they must be completely insane.

think hydrogen.

starts as water, splits into hydrogen and oxygen, burns and the waste is water!

no nuclear, hydrogen please!

ok maybe i was unclear in what i meant .
yes destroying the ozone can and will damage the earths ability to control its weather patterns etc

but my point is the planet as a whole cannot be destroyed by human carelessness
if we damage the earths current environment so that every living breathing thing on earth dies .... the earth will still be here . and in a few billion years it will probably manage to start the life cycle again

Yes, and that's another thing!
That ozone hole expands and contracts to let polution out of the atmosphere just like the hole on a tea kettle lets out heat and steam.
I think presumptuous is too weak of a word for people who think that (they) know better than "Mother Nature!"
And the fact that they would try to make money from it by swindleing the U.S. Taxpayers is nothing short of criminal!

How are you going to separate the hydrogen from the oxygen in water?  I think that it is usually done with electricity.  We burn coal to generate electricity in order to break the oxygen - hydrogen bond.  There is no net energy gain with hydrogen.  It's just beats coal or coal oil as a source of fuel for cars.

As far as I know, pollution is not excaping the earth's atmosphere.  Certain chemicals are breaking the ozone bond, which is made up of three oxygen atoms.  If I remember correctly, ozone is really good at absorbing ultraviolet light, which can cause damage to living organisms.

I have many of the same questions about how much is man and how much is natural, but I do not dispute that man has made some impact, or that we should be doing things to make that impact less.

The thiing I have on Gore is two fold
1. It's not that green energy isn't permitted, it's perfectly legal in all 50 states it's a matter of expense not legality.
If he was as committed as he says then he'd have spent the extra 100,000 on the house to make it totaly off the grid.
Don't lie to me and say you're that committed only to make the excuse that it's not paid for by the government when you're worth millions and could have affordded to do it yourself. The earlier argument fits this one as well
"WHy didn't he build a smaller house completely off the grid at his own exspence if he's so committed?"

2. That still does not account for the tons of extra CO he produces on private jet flights that spill out more on one trip than I will produce over the lifespan of my SUV.

Should every state have a green power law? Sure
Should every household investment in alternative energy that makes sense and qualifies be encouraged through deductions etc sure why not.
