Like Devils Vendetta above, I live in a big city of nearly 4 million - so fetish shops, goth shops, sex shops are everywhere - fetish clubs etc etc etc. I love it :)

As a fellow eastern shore Marylander, I know what you're talking about - lol!    Way too conservative over here.

It's just not a good area here for adult businesses - it's an easy predictor that the church groups and local press will raise a stink if any should try to open up.  While there's certainly some activity (a small munch group in Salisbury; I used to go to some great private parties in Snow Hill), it's fairly small and quiet.

There is a generic sex shop in Salisbury.   At some point last year a friend of mine and I went in there and raised a little havoc - very expensive, lousy selection, mostly movies.   I have to tell you - it's been a long time since I even looked at porn dvd titles, and we had a really really good laugh at them.  I don't think the guy working there got off the phone with his girlfriend long enough to even notice that there were women in the shop but the odd guy or two who came in wasn't too happy LOL.

We live in a town of 3000, but we're only 25 miles from Indy, and the nearest "toy" store is about 12 miles from us. Way overpriced, and terrible selection. We prefer Blowfish online.

The good news is we're only 4 hours away from Chicago, and since I lived there for most of my 39 years, I know the city very well.

I lived in SC, PA, MD, TX, NE, AL, NC, GA, CA, Korea and Jordan. Lots of those stops were in small towns. I always found something interesting.

It's much the same here in Conway, AR. It's a three college town in the center of the Bible Belt. A "dry" county, where sales of alcohol are prohibited. We have a small adult store here in town called "Dori's Secret" (nice little place, female owned and operated) They sell primarily liengerie, lubes and sex toys. No video booths, no rentals. Very upscale. There was a huge bru-ha-ha when the store initially opened, but then it fell off fairly quickly. I guess a lot of the fundies backed off when their local religious leaders said they thought the store was fulfilling a need, keeping the spark in the lives of long married couples... (not to mention quite a few oversexed college students)

Having watched the documentary on some of the mega christian churches and such, they are definately into sex, as long as it is within the confines of marriage. I don't think they would have a problem with how it plays out too much!

If you have any shops then you are way ahead of this area! Try a tack shop for some interesting play toys. Of course you'll have to explain that you don't have a horse.......

Reading this thread i realise i am more in the sticks than i imagined. Cant find an adult toy store? The nearest to me is 60 minutes away at least( and thats sad since i live 20 minutes from 3 interstates). My nearest super walmart? 25 minutes( though we have a local small one that carries only the basics.) Nearest indoor mall? 45 minutes. Nearest steakhouse? 30 minutes.

But i like living in the sticks, i can always drive to the city in a little over an hour if i want. its quiet, no crime( i rarely take the keys out of the ignition little lone lock the doors and most people are that way here.) and the best part is you can do so many  things outdoors and not get caught.

I do all my shopping online........saves gas and headaches.

The last time I looked at the sign at the Post Office the population was 567 here.  We shop online as well except for things we find at the feed/tack stores. *I ain't knocking that, I've always loved the quality and price of stuff you find there, some very interesting things as well!*
It takes 20 minutes just to get off the mountain we live on. There is no kind of store in between not so much as a soda pop machine. Then when you do hit town it's literally one traffic light. .You have to drive another 30 minutes or so to get to anything that resembles a city and there's not much to that either except the traffic's heavier. I'd proabably freak out in real traffic anymore. Sex toys? It's about a 2 hr. drive to the nearest store for anything like that.
We've been gone most of the day today for a grocery/dollar store run that should've had us back home at the most in a couple of hours. That's one of the drawbacks to living way out in the middle of nowhere but I really wouldn't have it any other way. Hell, I'd be happy to be even further out in the sticks!

I know what you mean. I haven't even seen a house key around here in years! Couldn't even tell you what it looks like.

Update on our situation. OC enacted a moratorium on any new adult businesses until they can change the zoning restrictions. Sigh.... It's really the attitudes i hate.

Unfortunately although this is considered a rural area i live in a neighborhood (seemed like a good idea when my daughter was little). Wish i was farther out so we could do more outside activities. My goal is as we expand the "family" to get a farmhouse and barn further out in the country and leave my daughter here when she starts college (1 1/2 years).  I envy you guys who can play outside!!!! i love outside play

Not much in Sacramento, my State's Capitol, either.  I know of two stores in the entire area and one of them is mostly fluff.

Online Shopping.  It's a good thing.

You likely didn't know about the BR03 issue when they tried to hold their annual event in Ocean City.  Word leaked out to the press and there was a huge response from the locals and the hotel cancelled the contract, even though the event was in the off season and completely inside.  BR had to scramble to find new digs and replacements (and did a pretty good job of it) and went back to their old regular place in New Carrolton.

There was also a big stink over Dark Odyssey two years ago having their event in Hunt Valley when word of that got out.  That event still went on as planned and was very positive, there was much tension and the locals were not all happy with the situation.

Specially for Ocean City which is considered a family place (except for Senior Week), they will avoid ANYTHING that might somehow tarnish their image and detract from profits.

While you might not be too close to anything in MD- you aren't too FAR from anything either.
I'm still pissed about this. My ex and I had rented the two story penthouse swuite with two other couples for that weekend and couldn't get out deposit back because we didn't buy the small print trip cancellation insurance.. Stupid closed minded jerks.

The only good time to go to OC is in the winter when there is nobody there, in the season it's like someone shook out  every trailer park in a 6 state radius.

I dont have house keys either, I went on vacation for two weeks a couple of years ago and never even locked the doors. I own a truck and being a carpenter i always have expensive tools in the back.  Around here  i can leave them in there but everytime i go to the city i have to clean  it out. Thieves are so petty in the city they will steal a $20 hammer in broad daylight in a parking lot with security cameras and traffic( that actually happened).

I wouldnt trade the country for a townhouse and $10 mil

There is nothing like playing outside, in my opinion. Especailly where i live, sometimes if im lucky i  can go  a certain beach and it will be completely deserted. Play on a public  unoccupied beach.... now thats exciting.

We are exploring Assateague Nat. Park  they have several camping areas where you can only get to them by canoe or long hike and you ahve to bring everything including your own water etc.  We are thinking it would be great especially in the semi-off season (spring/fall) to get in some outdoor play on the beach/bay. :)

If you have a 4 wheel drive truck, you should get a beach permit and take the truck out.  If you don't, buy a truck :-)   It's a lot easier to haul out firewood and supplies as well.

I have been out on the Maryland end of the beaches on Assateague in the evening a number of time with friends for bonfires, etc.   You can always find a spot with no one else in sight, which would be ideal for play if you were so inclined.  Just be careful which way the wind is blowing - if it's coming off the land instead of off the ocean, the bugs are horrible.

We both have 4 wheel drive trucks so we are ready to go alone or take a group :) Hoping to get out doing the camping in the spring before the bugs get too bad and then take advantage of the beach when they do.  He keeps telling me something about "bug suits" too. Trying to figure out how to make that kinky......

Des Moines, Iowa does not have very good shops either - mostly fluff.

Sioux Falls, SD has one of the best shops in the area - movie rental, good bdsm selection, however it is difficult to compete with the net and mail order.

Does anyone have any shop recommendations for Omaha, Minneapolis or Kansas City?
