Well, this probably falls under the heading of "Don't quit your day job," but I had to try. I'm not a composer (not sure I'm a lyricist either, but that's another story), so I stuck to the original tune, which I don't find particularly funereal. For my fellow Americans, that's "My Country, "Tis of Thee."

Dear Britain, we love thee:
Land of chips, rain, and tea,
Where we live free.
We made it through the Blitz,

The old Labour Party, whose representative on Earth posts regularly on CM,would.

You see being able to laugh is class based and exploitative. The workers have nothing to laugh about as the Matriarch takes in washing, scrubs the street and gives each kid in turn a good clip round the ear, while Dad is in a drunken stupor before the TV with a fag, in his mouth. I mean a cigarette, none those upper class perversions 'ere.or else moaning in the betting shop about why his cross double five race accumulator was only one result from winning a fortune. Instead he's gorn (dialect)an lost the lot.

Not much to laugh about there is there. A government department is definately required to improve things.

New Labour would then raise taxes and set up an investigating committee resulting in an enquiry lasting two years and costing not less that 10 million pounds to find out why the workers dont laugh much, according to the intellectual experts anyway. When the results were published one recommendation would be that laugh classes be included in the school curriculum, so more taxes would be required to teach teachers how to teach the subject.
