I don't understand why any of you are bothering to respond to OceanSlave. After he started his "perverta like" behaviour, I'd have expected people to disengage.

I do like the idea of collarme having a few more search options. - I'm fine with the OP's suggestions of what gender you want to have contacting you and who you are here to meet. I'm even fine with charging anyone who is a Pro for using the site a small ($5) fee to cover their bandwidth. They are making money from the site (or attempting to) and should be putting back into it. The problem with that is all the people who would then pretend to be lifestyle and post ads, then ambush the poor applicants. We have enough of that problem now with people who don't want to be thought of as "Pro" and still want tribute. I also like the relationship/Pro goal search option, but feel it would be better if it indicated more than just lifestyle relationship since not all who are seeking are looking for a relationship. A casual play option in there would round it out. I've no clue how body type as opposed to numeric weight would solve anything unless someone is ONLY searching for a certain body type.. blows Padriag a kiss for the idea of donating programming time to CollarMe That is a wonderful idea. My housemate is a very high lvl programmer (CTO) and I've several times wished he knew about what I do (BDSM) so I could ask him to help out CollarMe. He's one of my best friends and suspects my orientation, but is very vanilla himself. I don't feel it is fair to burden him with the details of my sexuality any more than I want to know his. It is wonderful to see someone else who actually has (or will have) the skills needed with the idea of volunteering. I personally wish there was some skill I could donate to CollarMe. I've been planning on volunteering the next time they ask for Mod help.

Its sort of a happy coincedence, I've been updating my personal site and am no longer happy with the MIVA scripting I had been using. After a bit of research I decided PHP scripting would best suit my future needs, which currently include a simple email form, web counter and guest book. Later I may add a small msg forum on my site for folks who want to discuss the contents of the site. When I get my lifestyle site up (which is separate from my personal site), I'll copy the format there, so I'll have to learn some of this stuff anyway. Long as I'm learning it, if I can help out here a bit why not.

I guess..(back to the original subject) it's sounding like the majority tend to agree that keeping CM a free site would be in everyone's best interest. Perhaps some additional search options would be a perk, but it also sounds like soliciting (or just accepting offers) for sideline programming might be an answer there. In one of the other boards it was noted that with increased search options it would in fact take more time to "sort" the database, increased processing time may not be the best thing to add at this point. I would be all for the age verification if there was an alternative method for those without credit cards, since on occasion in the chat room I have wondered if the "youngin" I was talking to was actually of legal age. But again, the burdon is really on the chatter, careful observation will usually weed these out. Is there a universal answer..hmm, probably not one all would agree with. I am certain the creaters and supporters of CM are looking at some of the legitimate posts in this thread, only reason I can figure the Mods are tolerating some of the posts. But in all seriousness, if CM continues to grow they will need funds to keep it going, even if it's just time (labor) required, that as well can be a valuable commodity. I have tried to maintain websites before and it does take a lot of time and energy to do so. As an option to members paying (I know this won't go over well..lol), perhaps as an alternative there could be a merchant site with advertising or links to merchandise. No worse than decals on the side of racecars for sponsorship...but if they do I hope it's not that "in your face" pop-up type advertising. But the vendors could pay a fee for the exposure which may in turn bring in the funding to add some of the search options many have spoke of and also the supporting hardware. I would think this would be a more viable alternative than having a fee and losing many of the members. This way even if you were on here for only chat, or the forums, or even if you were a troll, you wouldn't be laying out cash for a package when you only are interested in a small portion of the functionality. I HONESTLY believe as a BDSM community we need to strive to keep CM together and work with them as much as possible to make this the best damned BDSM site on the net...I don't know about the rest of you but having to pull up stakes and move to another "potential" BDSM home gets to be old after a while. Even aside from the occasional hostile debate I still consider lifestylers" my extended family and to be quite frank..I like it here.

I have a friend in a different country that has to go to a cyber cafe to get here, if it weren't for this being a free site I would have never had the opportunity to meet him. I think it's wonderful that collarme has given even people in third world countries the chance to meet like minded people from all over the world. There are a lot of possibilities to consider, if we want all these extra features, then the site is probably going to have to generate income. But there are a lot of options besides charging for memberships. For example, add an auction board to the site something like eBay but primarily for kinky goods... course they could allow non kinky goods as well I suppose. I'm sure there are a number of members here who make floggers, whips, leather goods, etc. Giving them a place to sell those goods would benefit them. Here's a little math. Suppose the auction board closed $1000 worth of auction sales per business day. And lets say the site gets an average 5% commision on those sales. That's $50 per day to the site, with an average of 20 business days per month, that's $1,000 per month in revenue without ever having to charge for memberships or anything else... and adding one more service the site offers. That might not pay for the cost of the site, but it would certainly offset it quite a bit. To really make it successful, the site would need to make it very convenient for people to sell things through auctions or an online store here, that's part of what made eBay successful, its easy to place an item for auction there. An online store is another option, again... the site gets a commission. The site could also offer its own merchandise... coffee mugs, t shirts... though I would suggest they find better product than that. Most likely coffee mugs and t-shirt are not going to sell that well. But for example, ever seen those laser hologram crytal things? Its a plastic cube with a 3D "sculpture" etched inside with a laser... sits on a base that lights it up with LED lights. Did you know that you can buy those in bulk pretty easy, even have custom designs made? Wonder how well some of those would sell in an online store with kinky and adult themes? If CM had an online store they could buy them in bulk and sell them for a profit. Creative ideas like that could make a CM product line work. There are also a variety of adult product they could buy wholesale an retail here if they the site management is of a mind to do so. If they want to charge for memberships... do this. Go with "gold memberships" that offer more advanced search features, email options, and profile options. Did you know there are companies that do personality tests that will set up a test on your web site at low cost? How cool would it be if gold memberships could take a kinky personality test, one professionally done, an include that as part of your search options? That would leave the regular memberships still free with all the current options left alone... gold memberships would cost something, but would offer new stuff. That's a possible compromise I would think. I agree, with some effort on all our parts we can turn this into the best BDSM site on the web and make it a very fine place to call home.

"i" can't get to alt. or bondage because it IS pay...i don't have a credit card and cannot GET one..with MY disability money. even when i worked,..$7 to $8 an hour, i couldn't get a credit card. i bet many others can't. i know people personally that can't pay their mortgage or rent,..how are they going to use a pay site? and i DO mean some dommes i know personally. i sometimes wonder why that is the reason they go poly so they have 7 or 8 incomes in one house.. no. pay is NOT a good thing. and i see it as there are more bad ones at pay sites than there are non pay.. i seen some ads at alt. i shuddered at when i seen them. sorry..i vote free site. but it's just me.. esp. since many dommes HERE are good for asking for tributes and trinkets anyway...... and some as i posted elsewhere....have asked for slaves to pay their mortgages for them..... no. no pay. we got enough trouble as it is.. my feelings on it. thank You houseboy

Wow! I go away for the weekend and I miss out on a lot [:D] This is just a quick reply that is going to address several issues [:)] First off, having this be a pay site is a bad idea. I, for one, would have to leave if it was. Not because I am lazy or don't work, it is because I am putting myself through college. Somtimes I think that I live on these message boards, but it is because this is my escape. When I am tired of writing a paper I will just pull it up and read what everyone has to say. I respect people's opinions (some more then others [;)] ) and have gotten a lot of good advice and ideas from the people here. Do I have friends in real life? Yes, several that I met here actually. Do I have a life outside of the internet? Yes, and if you ask me about it I will be happy to tell you all about my typical day [:D] I believe that I am just as capable of having a serious relationship as someone who is making twenty times more then me. I am not ashamed of my income or of what I do for a living, it's putting me through school isn't it? I own a car, have a roof over my head and can afford food. I think I'm doing pretty good.
