A buddy of mine (we spent most of last Friday night buried in Crown Royal...not my usual Friday...but hey...it happened...and in my case...I spent the subsequent Saturday morning thinking..."today's not going to be a good day") said....

"3 aspirins....and the next day is palatable".

Someone else told me" drink 3 full glasses of orange juice before you go to bed....and you'll be ready to run a 10K tomorrow" (I think he's a lying sack of shit).

Someone else said..."drink two VERY large glasses of chocolate milk before bed...and you'll be ready to (he then said "run a 10K...." whereupon I decked him)"...

So....

What is your cure?  Do you have one?  Do you suffer through it?  Do you wish you could beat someone and then say...."Ya know...there was this thread on CM some years back...."

?

What's your cure?

I think if you drink two or three large glasses of anything except alcohol before you go to bed, you should be able to stave off a hangover. That's been my experience, anyway.
It's a good idea to alternate water with alcohol the night you are doing the drinking, too.

Ice water.  Lots of it, both before bed and in the middle of the night.  I dunno about running a 10k, but it works to go run a jackhammer.

Peewee you should try "Chasers" before you drink...Don't want to be a shill for their product but it does work...Walzan...Zantac knock off.... Take with water and some aspirin before you start throwing back the booze....Chasers do work.

Lots of water and one of the b complex vitamins (B-12 IIRC) will make for a much less unpleasant hangover. Take some aspirin before bed if your stomachcan take it to blunt the headache that accompanies your body metabolising all that alcohol and you should be ok.

I don't imbibe much anymore but having recently overdone a bit of celebratory consumption of champagne and good red wine I used my long successful preventative measures and woke up feeling rather peachy the day after.

Prior to overindulging in the alcoholic beverage of choice drink an 8oz glass of milk. Chocolate, full fat, whatever your choice of moo juice may be is perfectly fine.

After indulging and prior to bed take 1000mg of pain reliever of choice. ( My personal preference is Aleve) and drink at least 16 oz of H20.

The morning after (or afternoon depending on when you wake up) have a cup of coffee or caffeinated beverage of choice if you must to get started but switch to H2O soon after; try to drink more water than caffeinated beverage.

Your friend is on the right track in regard to the 10K. The alcohol needs to be flushed out of the system and sweating it out works just as well as peeing it out. Although peeing is certainly more fun in some situations.

Given the fact that I don't overindulge often and am quite a bit older than when I did previously this has always worked well for me. Handed down to me by an old bartender friend years and years ago.

In all honesty prevention is better than the cure. There are a few things you can do to minimise the chances of having a bad hangover.

Before you go out.

1. Eat a reasonably sized meal. This slows down the absorption of alcohol. Fatty foods are a good idea because they line your stomach. Take a multi vitamin with the meal and drink plenty of water.
2. Drink as much water as possible. When the night is winding down switch to drinking water. This will prevent dehydration which is one of the big factors in a hangover.

If you do have a hangover.

1. Drink plenty of water or milk, this lines your stomach and rehydrates you.
2. Replenish your electrolytes. Sports drinks will help this. You will have lost lots of these if you pissed a lot or threw up.
3. Eat breakfast. Egg on toast is good as it gets into your system quickly before you get to that point you feel to sick to eat.
4. Painkillers but they only work for the headache. Follow the other advice too.
5. A temporary solution is to have another alcoholic drink. But this only works until the effects of the morning drink wear off. Your hangover will catch up with you at some point.

Oh and just so ya know lol black coffee sobering you up is a myth it just combats the drowsiness you feel.
Also one hour is needed for one unit of alcohol to be eliminated from your body and there is no way this can be speeded up so consider that before you have a heavy night and then drive the next morning.
Lecture over.

So not true and you should also not take pain killers before drinking alcohol - EVER.

True but there are things you can do to minimise before hand and after. I go for the just not drinking option

Just decide that hangovers are cool ... sort of like the diet that always works, where you convince yourself that hunger pangs are desirable.

I agree with the drinking two glasses of anything theory.  Part of what makes a hangover feel bad is the dehydration the alcohol causes, so replenishing lost fluids with healthy liquids like plain old water is beneficial.

Then there's always that "hair of the dog that big ya" theory....not sure why that works, though.
