ORIGINAL: SusanofO I can't believe anyone actually believes it would make a difference what the U.S. President's sexual orientation, or gender is. I don't care what it is. I am not trying to be insulting (I really am not), but - you kinda sound like a crabby, rigid, really old man. Interesting how yopur perception changes when it is something you don't get you jollies off of relating to BDSM...anyway got news for you...there is more political unrest than you are ever aware of... And as far as what I sound like...that is your perception now isn't it? I am never quite sure what someone means when they say: "The U.S. "isn't ready" for....____________." IMO, the U.S. wasn't altogether "ready", for example, for the: 1) Emancipation proclamation That was a political motivated rather than a right thing to do concept. 2) Civil Rights movement of the 1960's And tell Me how many of these former leaders are so sad in their today approach? How many of those that marched with King actually are worth their salt now? "He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetuate it. " Martin Luther King, Jr. How many readers are guilty of this? 3) Female suffrage *(women getting the right to vote) - and also, The were needed in the work force for war support which did not really materialize until WWII 4) Gays being allowed to marry in some states. Well seems that is illegal and goes against many doctrines..nt just in this country but in many cultures as well All of these things have happened anyway. How IS a cause (especially in a civil rights sense, in particular) usually ever advanced except via "just doing it"? Ghandi also professed pacifism.. yet he was inconsistant in his teachings when refering to violence to be used There will always always be some who "aren't ready for _________" (pick something). To me, this usually means people who say this, just aren't sure how it would work out, or they personally, don't want to see it happen. Or perhaps to evoke mindthough... To these overly hesitant voters, I say: Well, welcome to the nature of what is known as: A) Making an educated guess, and B) Taking a risk, on trying something new, that may just work out better than you ever dreamed, and surprise some folks. For heaven's sake, open your mind - it's a big world out there, and WASP hetero males aren't the only ones in it. Plus, it is 2007, not 1907. Times change. You either keep up, and change with them, or become (or remain) perenially crabby and unhappy about the changes. They are happening, whether you like it, or not. If you don't, then don't let them ruin your day, or your decade. That may all be true in principal but the bottom line is America is not ready for it. Ross ©º°¨¨°º©
