Do you feel that a gay person should be the President of The United States?

I do not.

It goes against everything the Unted States and the Founding Fathers established and outlined in their writings.

The founding fathers did their writing a LONG time ago. Things have changed significantly.  I dont think someones sexuality should really even be the concern of the people voting for them.  I dont care personally if a presidential candidate likes men, women, is asexual, is kinky or boring in bed.  If they can lead the country effectively, I am all for it. I dont think a gay man is any less capable of leading the country than a straight man.  And if a woman can do the job, let a woman have the position, lesbian or straight.

If the person has the right qualifications etc for the job, why the hell should it matter what their personal sexuality might be?

I cannot believe you even asked that question to tell the truth!  I dont know you, and trying not to be rude but..............

I cant even write anymore, I'm just dumfounded that someone could ask something like that in this day and age so completely stupid, racist (yes racist against homosexuals or lesbians) and backward!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe a gay person as President would allow thier sexual preference influence policies...especially since this has been the decade of the gay on tv.

Seems one could not turn on tv or go anywhere without having homosexual values shoved down one's throats.

I seem to weary of the minority (yes there is a reason why they are a minority) groups whinning about how unfair everyone else is when they themselves practice exclusivity amoung thier ranks through activisim, commercial enterprise endorsement (only buy from another minority) and active discrimination.

Get over it.

It was what it was.

It is what it is.

Base your stance on who you are rather than what minority you can from or are from.

The United States of America is based on minorities that flee political, religious percecution.

Anyone running for president allows their personal beliefs to influence their policies.  The religion someone practices does so.  Hetero preseidents allow their sexualities to interfere... look at Clinton.  Your rash tereotyping and small minded view is sort of startling.  However, you are entitled to your opinion.  We dont have to agree.
Personally, gay or not, Id cast my vote for anyone who can do a better job than we have had lately.  Our last few by the book heterosexual posterchild presidents havent dont much good by us, so if it is time for a radical change in the white house... I am all for it.

Things have eroded and gone to hell as far as values.

When was the last time someone was willing to kill you for cutting in front of them in traffic..this moring perhaps?

Why is getto gangsters glorified and sports when most can not pass a GED test?\

Why is it that teachers , the ones that form the minds of the future are paid the least?

Why is it that genocide is going on right now and Americans care more about who the father of a child of some two bitfloozy that was nothing like Marlyin Monroe...a sad wannabe that had way too much baggage.

Why is it sex sells and not the truth?

It is the values that are eroded and the acceptance of people to what was once the unthinkable is now the norm....and not through discussion but rather through pathetic apathy.

Sure  why not? They are people too and some are perfectly capable of handling the position. Some I would dare say, better than alot of heteros that have tried in the past.

As for your last statement I certainly do not agree with it. I do not judge people based on their sexual orientation. The days of old are gone and with good reason if we are to progress as a society we have to learn to accept others who are different than ourselves. We have to move forward, not stay stagnant or reverse progress.

In case you haven't noticed the supposed hetero Presidents we've had in the past have all had their own personal agenda whether it was based on sexual orientation or religion or just plain greed.

So get over it. Time to move on.

Not being taken as rude I made a statement and you made an objecting viewpoint without lowering yourself to flaming or attacking personally....great!

Why is it someone should not challenge the status quo?

just a thought, what with all the repression and marriages for the sake of appearances over the last few centuries, its quite possible that the US, (and UK et al) has already had a gay president, but just didnt know it.

It would be interesting to see but this country is not ready for a homosexual President...let alone a homosexual woman president...and you can forget about the black homosexual woman President...just not happeneing.

The mindset of people is so limitied and special interests groups would battle with religious and right wing groups to the point it would mute the effectiveness of the Office of the Presidency.

I do not judge someone on their sexuality just their motivation from it.

I did not notice the mandatory blow jobs after lunch or the quickies before dinner...where was the memo...I missed that one.

What bias sexual agenda format were you refering to?

Could you please clarify, whether you are linking the introduction of rights for homosexuals and the promotion thereof, to a general decline in societal values?

I'd hope you weren't but the above does need clarification in case this was not the intention, since its appearance in this thread could be interpreted in such a way.

I agree with DV, about what the posted topic. I'm trying to teach My children to be loving and if society starts singling out gay's then what is that showing them?  Society at times singles out blacks and other nationalities.  It makes Me ill to know that.  I'm not prejudiced and hate reading about others being singled out because of thier race, sex, religion or lack of.  I wish we would just all get along.  As far as what the forefathers wrote, it's suggested if you ask Me.  It's not stone, it sucks to actually sit here and think, what if a gay is elected president, that that would cause a ruckus?  That's absurd.  There is nothing wrong with it, I know some gays are more stable and functional than some hetero's for crying out loud.  It's about expressing yourself not repressing.

Gay marriages are illegal in most states in the USA.

As far as gay presidents if you can point them out I would be willing to discuss them.

As far as England being a bad influence of the Presidency I think some one should tell King GW Bush that monarchies are long gone in this country and are only versed for those steeped in long pomp and circumstance of frovality.

George..you are President right now...NOT King!

Umm why not a black homosexual woman president?  Why?

You are racist with a comment like that.

This is the first time on these forums I have responded angrily to - but I just cannot believe your comments.  We dont have racism here in Australia, it is nearly unheard of,  so to read something like this is truly shocking to me - it really is - I just dont understand and it is extremely upsetting to me.

I am terribly upset by this - for someone in this day and age to make that comment is unbelievable to me.  Why oh why would a black homosexual woman president by so wrong - or anyone homosexual - why?  What is the difference between anyone - we are all human - all of us made the same.

Ok I'm going to stop I am uspet and rambling now and near to tears....

that is a personal opinion and not one of the requirements of being president:
  • be a natural born citizen of the united States
  • be at least 35 years old
  • have lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years
The founding fathers left Britain because of oppression and made it quite clear that religion and politics were to be kept separate.  How a person leads their personal life is really no one else's concern , lets see we have had a murderer, several adultery's, a coke head at least one that we know of, and a thief at least one. We do not know if any of the presidents have been gay or not because people use to know how to keep their personal lives personal , and others use to know how to mind their own business. I say the person who can turn the country around, bring down the deficit, and the price of gas and housing basic everyday needs should win and I do not care if he is a cross dresser and wears heels and hose to the white house as long as he takes care of business.  America is the only country so afraid of sexuality we make stupid laws to try and control people's lives which  among other things  makes us the laughing stock of the world.
