I wouldnt post this but its happened to me twice, and I want to know if Masters, or anyone really, but since most of the contact I have is with Doms and Masters its going here, find this acceptable.

I will be exchanging messages with someone, and we will get to the point where we exchange im names, and I use one of my im handles for alot of things (ive stopped giving out this handle, so dont lecture me on this one please). Anyway, twice people have googled it, and approached me with information from my previous forum posts and blog entries from YEARS ago? Is this appropriate to delve that deeply into someones life on a first chat even? I mean, they were things I would have divulged eventually, theres just no reason to get into the nitty gritty of my past when I'm just beginning to talk to someone.

they didn't invade your privacy, they sought and found public information, which is something they have every right to do. if you personally feel it's inappropriate, that's really your own issue.

I'm a stalker, I'd totally find out about someone I was interested in and want to talk about it if it was relevant.

If you don't like the stalker types, then once they bring it up, say that this isn't right for you and end it.

Heh. Ever googled your REAL name? How about your phone number? If google has that, it'll include a map to your house.

What she said. Nothing you put on the Internet is private. Nothing! Hope nobody who talks about this subject on the net plans on going into politics anytime soon!

When I have the free time, I am a complete and total stalker.  People should really just be flattered that I am interested enough to stalk them. If you don't like it, then stop talking to them and their motivation to stalk you will hopefully dwindle.  But everyone has the right to access public information.

Actually, I've had people do this before...and sometimes I even google myself. It's interesting to see how my opinions and attitudes have morphed and grown over the years. I've never felt like it was an invasion of privacy...actually, I thought it was kind of flattering.

I'd have to second, third, and fourth what others have said, though...once it's on the net there's no privacy. The net doesn't even come with an illusion of privacy, so I'm not sure why you felt it was invasive.

I don't understand. if he found it at google how can it be PRIVATE?
anything you can find at google is public (or google coundn't find it) so what's the problem if they search for it?

Well, we'd all like to think that everything you find on google is public domain, but sometimes private info does surface. But, it wasn't private info that the OP was referring to...it was posts on public message boards...which is why I am curious as to why she would expect privacy.

well I may understand why because with my last slave I found myself at this same "problem"
she googled my name without telling me. I didn't like it when she told me what she had found.
but... after calming I found she was in her right of searching that information.
If I'm requesting her that she trust in me how can I keep secrets from her?

So, would you have asked her not to google your name if you had known before hand?

probably not. I would asked her why she wanted to do it and then I would had say it was a good idea.
but the question is not if she did or not. what I didn't like is that she did it without asking.

I suppose I can wrap my mind around that.

I was just wondering, mostly, because I am an inherently nosey person. I would have googled you without a second thought.

I dont think researching your posts, no matter how long ago they were written, constitutes an invasion of privacy.  Chat boards on the net are public stomping grounds as far as I know.

To me, an invasion of my privacy would be someone going behind my back and trying to get my bank account numbers or medical history or breaking into my home and snooping through my bedroom.   These are some actions that I would consider invasion of privacy.

If someone interests me, I will seek out their posts too, but it's in an effort to understand the person because he/she intrigues me.

If I were you, I would not be concerned, but rather flattered that he is interested enough in you to want to know your opinions, thoughts, values etc.
