The solution is not just putting in more guns it is putting guns in the right hands, at least 3 of those 29 cases in the US were stopped by an armed civilian. One a principal who ran to his car off campus to retrieve his pistol, One an off duty cop who also had to run to his car to get his pistol (guns were not permittted in the classrooms even for off duty cops on that campus), and one a CWP holder driving by right place right time, in those 3 cases the criminal dropped their weapon when challenged by an armed civilian.

Does that PROVE the case for arming everyone? No. But it does prove that armed civilians CAN in some cases stop these events from being worse.

The only proof would be DO IT!

There are only 2 cases that i can think of where i would agree to an amendment that banned a weapon from someone.

1) if they were found guilty commiting a crime with the use of a gun.

2) if they had a long history of mental unstability.

Carrying a gun in public tends to make one very aware and conscious, not only of others actions but of your own.  which as far as i am concerned is a very good thing.    try it sometime.

Around here both DIANE and I strap them on and yes an oz of prevention is worth a pound of cure.Like in all things there are people that shouldn't be allowed to own guns...The case at VT was a lost love or someone off his meds..There are just too many guns and too easy to acquire..At the flea markets around here there are plenty of short guns to be had,,Whats one to do? be careful and remain armed to the teeth..bounty

The only thing that makes me feel sicker than I already do about situations like this is how quickly politicians and special interest groups move in to make political hay out of the blood of the victims.

My thoughts and prayers to the victims and their grieving families and friends.

I spent all day wondering if a man who holds a very special place in my heart was alive or dead.

I got lucky. My best wishes and prayers go out to those who were not.

Nope, still trying.  I keep getting the busy signal from his phone.

Three things I'm thinking.
1.  He's hogging both lines, which, well, it possible.  He's a popular little guy with a lot of friends there.  If there's any time his cell would be flaring up, now's one of them.
2.  His cell is out of operation.. not sure why this gives the busy signal, since I'm not sure how phone companies tell the difference between a dead and destroyed phone, but.. heh.. he's destroyed enough cells before that the phone company dropped his cell-insurance plan and banned him from getting another.
3.  Well, screw #3.  I think he had classes elsewhere today anyhow.

You might be getting a busy signal because the lines in that area are too jammed with others trying to get through.

Same. I called a friend of mine. Turns out he had a late night and passed out until around 11:30. And since he didn't have another class until later he was off campus when things were going on. I've never been so happy to hear that he's had another slacker moment.

Good point. Probably why I can't get in touch with my mom, either, as she also lives in the area.

Uh, we already have one.

You spell his name George W. Bush.

Although I agree that Saddam was a lot more competent at the job.

It's a great tribute to the genius of our founders that so many Americans have no conception of what tyranny and oppression actually are.  But, DAMN, they can be annoying....

My condolences go out to all the families and students of VT.   I am stunned that we allow people to purchase asault weapons.
Clinton tried to ban them.   It did not get passed.
Everyone miss understood and thought he was trying to remove all weapons.  If we just remove assualt weapons from our society, that would be a start.
I really think they should have locked down the school.  They are closed today.  Interesting thought.

Wow what a lack of memory assault weapons were banned under Clinton (1994 Assault Weapon Ban) was passed and was law for years it was allowed to lapse since it was a bad law, (based on the fact that it banned weapons based not on what they could do but on how they looked) BTW Today's moron did not use an Assault Weapon based on the screwy definition in the defunct 1994 law. He used 2 pistols (handguns)

I hate to burst your intelligence level because ovbiously you are much more wiser than I am.
That is your opinion.  Today's moron used a nine mil plus a simi automatic weapon.  They have just released that information.
Regardless of the fact, today's  moron used a weapon that others used who go aroundshooting up schools and public places usually have assualt weapons.
They need to go.
Again, my condolences to the families and students of VT regardless of their own opinions of assault weapons.
The bill the former president tried to pass, and the last I heard, it was not passed,  was called the Brady Bill.  If it was passed, it needed to be.
Oh, and the shooter had a bullet proof vest on.   I find that so interesting.

Here is the link to the Brady Bill and all of the information that goes with  it.

The Virginia area is one of the areas this bill has focused on.   What do I know?

WHY? Was this another case of some pissed off student or admin who just couldn't "keep it together" and decided to "unload" on innocents? Did the news say why they think thnis happened?

We really don't know anything for sure yet, Susan.  You can find wild speculation on every channel.  People are dead and a lot of families are in terror of the unknown.

I'm sending good thoughts in the way that works best for me.  It's really all we can do.

LOL Okie dokey

Fact not opinion #1 semi auto does not = assault weapon there are many semi auto pistols and rifles that did not meet the screwy definition that the 1994 ban had.
Fact not opinion #2 The ban you said Clinton tried to get passed but couldn't, Did pass and was law for 10 years 1994 through 2004 after which time it was not renewed.

Now what you may be meaning to discuss is high capacity magazines which may well have been used, but that alone does not make a firearm an assault weapon as was defined in the 1994 ban.

Please point me to the story specifying that an assault weapon was used. Not one of the stories I have read as yet has mentioned him having one, so far only mentioned weapons I have heard or seen have been 2 semi auto pistols and alot of magazines for them.
