Having faced a major fear today, and feeling pretty damn good about it... have any of you faced your fears, and if so, how did that feel when you were through? I still have just a little further to go to get over this one, but I am starting to feel truly free just contemplating it no longer holding me back. Who knows what horizons lie ahead for me to traverse on my own...

OMG congrats!

Yes, and I faced the exact same one that you did!!

I felt really happy and adult and like I'd finally proven myself wrong which is great.  Of course, then I had to go through buying a car and that was a whole new set of fear issues- but I did that too!  I've racked up 70,000 miles since then!

hmm. i read there were 6 major fears. i forget what they are.

one day years ago- i had my day and night mixed up. i was driving home from work while sleeping. the mind can be a powerful force.

some fear are necessary. but unnecessary worry is not.

Well, I have bought two cars, and I gave them both to my mom. Today after I passed the written test she gave the car back to me and told me that she wants a new one now (this car was almost new when I bought it...lol). So, I have a car, and I am signing up for driving school... on another side note, I got an offer to interview for a public relations job that interfaces with strategies for promotions... you know, a creative job which requires I think, it also is a position which they offer those that they want to groom for management according to the information they sent me.  It sounds like a wonderful opportunity.

A few fears, but not all of them. =)

I have severe anxiety. Four years ago, just leaving the house was facing a major fear sometimes. But, hey.. it's a process, good days and bad days, yadda yadda. =)

Props for the fear facing

Stella, I have a phobia of driving, so I understand completely. I was also briefly treated for PTSD, but I decided to treat it myself, more successfully I might add!

Good for you Julia! From what I'm reading between the lines, its not a good idea to go jaywalking in your neighbourhood from today? (only joking!)

Fears I've faced and come through OK? Plenty. Paradoxically, it takes real balls to walk outside as a woman for the first time, when you've not been brought into the world that way LOL!

Imagine being born a woman, that takes real balls too...lol.

Thanks for sharing that insight, yes it must have been very scary to make the decision that you were going to live your life for you.

You know when I went down to Sinergy's place and being on some of the roadways near his place, very terrifying because he lives by the harbor, all those trucks leaving the harbor are overwhelming.

I refuse to allow it to hold back my life any longer, and that declaration is the most empowering thing I have done for myself thus far this year.

Congratulations...karmatic perhaps no?? It can be a scary thing but from reading your posts over the past year I know you have the strength and determination to accomplish anything you set your mind to. I hope you are as proud of yourself as the others around you are no doubt as well. I may not know you from anything but your posts but I'm proud of you none the less. Yay You!

passenger cars do need to be aware of the semis. most are no problem- but there are a few that think it is funny to scare a driver. luckily- you most likely KNOW the backroads better- so when in doubt- turn off- then get back on later; behind the nut.

Well I've driven on the NJ Turnpike, over all the bridges in NYC, on both directions of 495 in DC, and Penn Ave, but I still haven't exited on or off anywhere on 35 in downtown Austin.

as we get older we get set in our ways. sorta like the elephant that is chained. after a period of time the elephant- excepts the chain aand never goes beyond it.

I am happy that you overcame a fear. As you may recall- I have had my panicky moments. sometimes- i can be my worst obstackle.  :-)

big hugs to you!  aand yes by all means you should have a social life!!!!!

i once could navigate the roads well. i learned how to drive downtown chicago. but manhatten- yikes!!!  traffic jam- every car facing a different direction. postholes HUGE. red lights out of no where.

the DC area i hear has "rush hour" around the clock.

when i go back to chicago teh wild driver in me kicks in.  but only there- as i know the lay out. put me in any otehr urban area- and im nervous and lost. gosh- teh few times we went to Atlantic city we keeept ending up back in NJ. now that was a night mare!!!
