ORIGINAL: Sinergy My point was that they are losing 40% of their party, and last election was decided by some incredibly minor percentage of the vote. Sinergy That's in the base, Sinergy. I'll do what little I can, but they will likely be able to keep the most electable candidate off the ticket. The Fundy Right is a much smaller % of the general electorate. Honestly, I think the Dems are in MUCH greater danger of being split in '08, for reasons we don't really need to get into again. I don't think McCain is the one. Perhaps he SHOULD have split the party in '00... I've already volunteered with Giuliani. I don't know much about Romney. I need to watch a few speeches and see him running extemporaneous in some live interviews. What I want most in '08 is a winner with a clear mandate. In the book American Theocracy, the author plantatively makes the point that 40% of the Republican electorate used to stay home and not vote at all. These were the Evangelicals that were not politically involved hardly at all, that has changed over the last couple of decades due to many factors. The point is, once these people are no longer being catered to, they will either become disenfranchised or emboldened to start their own party. They have had a taste of political power, so I am thinking a split for a party based upon religion is not inconceivable. These are not the types to compromise their positions, one does not compromise when they are a soldier of god, do they?
