Over that course of about 18  or so 20 minutes, would you feel any better if he had taken a hammer and killed several individuals with that as well. Considering that obesity most likely  is close the number one "cradle to grave" killer in this country and contributes to far more more deaths and long term medical conditions than firearms deaths, if you are truly passionate about body counts wouldn't obesity legislation be more prudent?

A major paradigm shift in dealing with the mentally ill is needed. Besides how did someone with such vile anti-social behavior become a college senior?

As I said in an earlier response, there are already processes in place to obtain a concealed carry permit in many States.  These seem to be working well.

Buying a weapon legally and obtaining permission to carry a weapon legally are two different things.

Silverwulf is correct. I'm a fireams instructor and have taught classes in VA that certifes one to obtain CC permits. I'm curious as to why someone would think VA is at fault when Cho actually lied about his mentally status on both the VA state police form and BATF 4473 forms. Also VA has the HIGHEST submission rate of any state in the nation to flag mentally ill persons that goes in to the FBI database.

Sir shouldn't there be some database linking hospitals and the state about a person's mental status? Especially if he was held in a mental hospital.

It already exists, the question is that VA and the Fed gov't calls "actually commmited" something slightly different. Keep in mind this this event brings up other medical privacy issues. If a person is too unstable to own a gun, should they not drive or have kids either. Remember in the 30's when the mentally ill were sterilized to "protect" society. I'm all for the state and feds to be on the same page though.

Sir i thought he was held longer than 72 hours or am i incorrect.  i would think if he had been held longer than that then it should have gone into some kind of database.
