. . . glasses from the gas station . . .

We got a set of brown mugs with what I guess was supposed to look like icing around the brim.

~Boxes of "Cracker Jacks" with a cool prize in the box.
~Banana seat bikes with the long handle bars and sissy bar on the back.
~We used to have Paper Drives at school as a way to recycle, all the kids would go all over the neighborhood(when kids went to the school that was closest in there neighborhhod!) collecting newspapers the people would save up all year and the 6th graders always won first prize.
~I loved the movie theaters too! Pratically lived at them on the weekends, and I remember too how wild they could be Popeye and all the making out in the balconies. It was like the Movie Theaters were babysitters.
~It used to take a whole day sitting in the sun to get a little bit of color to your skin, people would sunbath all day long, all weekend long!
~Music that had meaningful lyrics and some simple really great concerts for $12 a ticket!
~The neighborhood kids all play games together, like "60" at night, where two would have to be blindfolded for 5 minutes on a porch and the rest would scatter around on that block and would have to make it back to the porch and yell 60 before they were spotted and touched, the first 2 caught were the next 2 blindfolded.
~Jump Rope and Jacks, I loved to play Jacks!
~Peter Max art.
~ Black light posters.
~ "cigarette" rolling machines.
~Black and White photos only.
~ Matches or a Zippo type lighter.
~People willing to stand up in the streets, be arrested, beat in the head by the cops for what they belived in.

Missy.

Kids playing outside with other kids enjoying the nice weather, or riding their mini bikes or shooting tincans with their bb guns. Parents outdoors teaching their kids to fly kites or how to skip a rock across a pond. I know I miss rootbeer floats in the summer time. My Dad use to take me to Highs every saturday after work to get a root beer float. YUMMY.  I miss my Adam West Batman lunchbox, it was metal and had a thermos tucked inside, you could really clock someone upside the head with that thing lol
Trying to call somewhere to get customer service and having an actual PERSON answer the phone...

I have really enjoyed reading this thread...  So many sentimental favorites...

Must be a lot more people my "age" here than I realized.

And how about those cast iron meat grinders that my mother used to use to make home-made hash?
Does anyone in here still have one of those?
She'd tighten it to the kitchen table with a built-in vice and start grinding up roast beef pieces or ham.

I have one, it was my grandmother's. I still use it to make sausage or bratwurst sometimes. Haven't done that in a couple years though. It's so heavy that I dropped it once and it dented the kitchen floor.

That's another thing I miss. Small appliances that last forever. They were made from metal and heavy as hell but they still held up over time. I went through a half dozen cheapo plastic housed hand mixers before I finally ended up buying a 30 year old one (for $1) at an estate sale. It was there and I figured for $1 even if it only lasted 6 months I would be happy. That was 9 years ago and it has lasted longer than the dozen before it did all together. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying the matching Kitchen Aid stand mixer and the blender as well.

how about service staff in shops who really tried to help...

Or - as a kid, being able to go out on your bicycle with your friends - and not having to worry about drive-bys or traffic...
and not having a house key - because no-one locked their doors
Or going out on hallowe'en and doing real trick-or-treat - and not having to worry about razor-blades in apples, or drugs in candies
Or spending every free minute outside, having fun - of course, you had to finish chores and homework first

You had a "Batman" lunchbox?! I am sooooo jealous.

Lately I've become addicted to watching old episodes on YouTube.

Things I miss:

Right around the time after the first "moon" landing.  There was a candy called "space sticks".

picking wild strawberries and blackberries in the spring

Swinging from a rope tied to a tree over a bayou

An old black (dialup) telephone ringing  in my Grandmother's kitchen.

The unfractured family of my childhood

fishing and camping

The smiles and hugs of the departed

Picking out four leaf clovers from a patch

I have an original Batman quilt circa 1965.

POW!  WHAM! SMACK!

Might appraise it on E-bay.

rotary dial phones (nobody ever said press 1 for English)

sitting around the TV together Sunday night watching "Bonanza"

riding in the back of an old pick up truck (the one where the wheels kind of stuck out)

bringing a battery operated, portable record player & your favorite 45's to school on the bus (most everybody wanted to sit by that person) lol
