I was noticing that you don't see those blue mail boxes on street corners anymore unless an area is very congested.
People must just put outgoing mail in their mailboxes or drop it off at the Post Office.
Same thing with phone booths. They're dissapearing rapidly too.
They used to be everywhere.

I think the internet and cell phones has much to do with those disappearances.  I miss the drive-in theaters and the drive-in restaurants, most have been gone for some time now, but where I lived not long ago, some still existed.

Ok, I'm old.... I'll play.

Remember when they ran out to fill up your car, wash your windshield, and force steak knives or trading stamps on you?  How about when "bankers hours" meant something.

OK, I win with this one:  Remember when the last thing a girl in high school would give up was a blow job?

I don't.  I was born yesterday.

Manners, politeness, and courtesy seem to be in short supply these days too.

Yeah, I used to love those drive-in movies! Here we have "Sonic" where you pull up and they come out to your car and yes some of them where roller skates.
Oedipus, yes, it was difficult to "score" in high school in the 60's.
Oh yeah, and they always washed your windshield too!

In Oregon, it is illegal to fill your own tank.  So, they still come out to fill your car...only, they don't run, and they are incompetant, and they don't top off your fluids, nor do they wash your windshields.  It would be nice if they actually offered either "full service' or allowed us to do it ourselves.

We have Sonic here too, only they aren't nearly as good as Thunderbird was *sigh*.

The area I live in is fairly small, not a lot of foot traffic anywhere, but it's also not "quaint".  We have at least three "blue" post office drop boxes on one main street on the way to the freeway that people often pull up to in their cars to drop something off.  I have blue in quotation marks because I'm sure they once were blue, but the paint has oxidized so badly that I really can't tell you.  It looks like a pair of jeans that my mom had that for 25 years.

Some stupid state law.  I think it is illegal in Jersey too.  The state thinks it keeps people employed, and it keeps little old ladies from being mugged.  However, the gas stations use the fewest employees possible which means sometimes you have to wait 20 minutes or better to get your gas.

N4SD, yeah, neighborhood stores too!
We had them everywhere in the 50's and 60's.
Plenty of penny candy, cokes from a drugstore type dispenser and usually a few aisles of cangoods and milk bread etc.
One had a sign out front, "Soda and Sundries" whatever that was.
No 7-11 stores in those days!

I miss the way people would dress up to go "downtown".  I miss cars with big bench seats... made for exploding the population.

I miss when I actually thought I looked good with long hair..

... and now high school girls think a blow job is a good safe-sex alternative, so what the hell...

The corner stores were great.  It was nice "knowing" the owners and playing with their kids.  Heck, I remember getting free sodas because I was friends with the owner's kids.  I suppose that is why they went out of business - that and them 7-11's.

People were more friendly in those times too, you had to go out to the mailbox to send off your bills, and you wound up socializing with neighbors more.  Today, everything is conveniently done at home that you no longer have time to interact with anyone...or so it seems.

Yes, that's true. My mother would invite the mailman in for lunch and he'd play the piano for us.
She'd make him a sandwhich, funny guy, "Slicky Johanson".
