i am very much an introvert...i enjoy peace and quiet, solitude, etc. but in addition to being an introvert i'm painfully shy and have social anxiety issues. therefore i'm terrified of crowds, of having to socialize with people, and i have zero social skills. if i'm in a social situation, like a party or club, and have to interact with strangers or people i don't know very well, i'm extremely quiet, to the point of being completely mute at times, and i usually just stay close to my Master, using him as as barrier between myself and the rest of the world.

but i've always been shy and i've always been extremely anti-social...when i was in primary school, because i would often sit in a corner by myself all day never speaking to anyone and basically ignoring the world around me, the teacher sent a note home to my parents once suggesting they take me to see an ear doctor because she suspected i had a hearing problem.

Kitte9 -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (4/29/2007 12:00:11 PM)

I don't know if it is a factor or not. I know I am an introvert who has fought it for many long years and become, perhaps, and extrovert in some situations (like making a fool of myself *s*), and though I had been a top in all previous relations, I truly wish to become submissive and give up that precious control.
If that hasn't confused the hell out of you, you are, indeed, a better person than I. *s*

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (4/29/2007 6:48:38 PM)

I'm definitely an introvert, but I can socialize on occasion, but only with small crowds of people and I have to have an "out" - like being able to walk outside or get away from them.  Sometimes I go to the bathroom a number of times to get away from the people I'm socializing with.  It really just depends on the situation.

But if I'm forced to interact with a lot of people or even one person who is extremely extraverted, or someone who is loud, obnoxioux or rude, I have to have peace and quiet when I get home.

Some people probably think I'm a snob and I'm anything but a snob.

And on top of that, I'm an empath, so being around other people often causes me emotional stresses because I feel what they are feeling, or I feed off of their emotions.  If they are negative or high strung/high drama types, etc... they drain me.  It sounds awful, but being around some people makes me feel like they are sucking the life outta me and I have to get away.

As to how it relates to my submissiveness, I would say that it makes ~me~ more focused on Him, because I have few if any close friends at any given time.  I'd just as soon that the one I submit to be the center of my universe, with few outside distractions from other people - if that makes sense.

I don't want a bunch of people in my world, and I'm very picky about the ones I do allow in it.

I was pondering something today about submissiveness and personality. I was wondering if submissives tend to be introverted or extroverted.

I am very much an extrovert. I am comfortable talking in front of groups of people. In fact I get paid to talk to people all day (my job requires a lot of conversing and being friendly). I like crowds of people sometimes. In fact I love people. I feel comfortable talking to almost anyone, and I am warm to people. I wonder if submissives tend to be shy and retiring, or outgoing and gregarious, or most of us fall somewhere in between.

Greetings juliaoceania...

I'm an extra-extreme extrovert...[:D]..XXX..

However, I do enjoy my alone time too..and it has been my experience many extroverts do not like to be alone.

extroverting!
~curious~

sweetnurseBBW -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (4/29/2007 8:44:06 PM)

I would say a little of both but more towards introvert. I am not shy but I would rather have few close friends than alot of people I call friends. I am not much on events but I do enjoy a party. I don't mind speaking in front of a group and enjoy it if its a topic of interest to me. I am leary of new people and it takes me a bit to warm up to them.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (4/29/2007 8:55:05 PM)

Angel is an extrovert, in that he loves interacting with people. He doesnt get close to many, but he loves bieng involved with them.
I am the same way,

Yeah i am pretty much the same way, so it makes perfect sense to me [:D]

Stranger1 -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (4/30/2007 7:09:14 AM)

I'm somewhere in the middle.

I have plenty of friends-but I like to choose the times and how we interact. Whe I need my space, I make that quite clear...but I do get lonely. I like someone for intelligent conversation,to see things with-make things with. I hate crowds, petty drama, and politics.

I guess the best description of me would be "Control for serenity."

I like peace, joy, order.

Those who insist on disrupting that-are not welcome in my world.

subiugo -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (4/30/2007 7:40:23 AM)

In general i don't believe in simple 'or ... or... ' concepts. Like most of the people responding in this forum, i 'sometimes' are more extravert, 'sometimes' more introvert. It depends on the situation, it depends on my mood. And it evolves. As a very young child i certainly was 'introvert' and it took me courage to become more 'extravert'. But i did it, and i am quite content with my 'introvert - extravert'-balance at this moment.

i don't see a direct correlation between being introvert or extravert of being submissive and dominant. So it are two dimensions of a personality, and all combinations of the two dimensions can exist. What is important to me is the question: given my 'introvert-extravert'-balance at this moment, what are my strenghts and my weakeness as a slave? Am i 'extravert' enough to stand quiet slave who knows how to keep him self unseen)? And given the fact that i consider my submission as the most important dimension of my personality, am i 'strong' enough to make shifts in the introvert-extravert-balance if needed to serve my Mistress well? (the same can be said of other personality balances...)

In general: thinking in 'dynamic' concepts is better than thinking in 'static' concepts and every 'true' relationship keeps the dynamics going.

newsubinTN -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (4/30/2007 1:19:28 PM)

Introvert by nature. my husband wants me to be more extrovert. on the personality tests, i've always been highly introverted. they say that changes over time, wish mine did, would make some of the things my husband wants much easier. lol

IrishMist -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (4/30/2007 2:48:58 PM)

I am more of a combination of the two.

I always pay attention to and am interested in what's going on around me; yet I also am very interested in my own thoughts and feelings.

I am open, and talkative with strangers; though I perfer my own space when I can get it.

LOL, I am extremely opinionated and very vocal about it.

I have only two that I would call close friends and both I have known since grade school. It takes along time for me to call someone a friend. I don't have any problems meeting new acquaintances though.

I tend to blurt out exactly what I am thinking.

I don't care for unexpected visits from others; if I don't have prior notice, I make it known that they are unwelcome.

aidan -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (4/30/2007 4:51:07 PM)

Depends on the situation. I can be very verbose and bubbly in the right situation, but you'll rarely have anything very "deep" come to the surface. I'm a good wise-ass jester, but there's a lot more there than most people get to/want to/should see.

simplyangelic1 -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (4/30/2007 4:59:18 PM)

According to all the "tests" I've taken for jobs, I'm very much an introvert although apply enough liquid courage and I become an extrovert.

complaisant2u -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (5/1/2007 12:50:14 PM)

 I'm not sure that it's possible to say must sumbissive people are one way or the other.  I know a dominant lady who's an introvert and a submissive guy who always acting like he's been eating straight Coolaid mix.  But I don't know enough people to make an opinion based upon statistically significant sampling of the submissive population. So you can add me to the side of sub male introvert.

Indemnis -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (5/12/2007 12:31:44 PM)

I'm introvert, but it's little to do with submission.  In fact, when I'm around like-minded people within the lifestyle, I tend to be more myself, wether it be a D I am speaking to or a subbie.. whatever.  I do dislike crowds, and being expected to make conversation, particularly with strangers... aside from the obvious, I.E, speaking to friends and the like.  Yes, I am a little introspective within all of this, but my desire to please and serve are not at all hindered, I am certianly not a self-involved brat, I simply prefer to keep to myself unless I have something profound or important to say.  ...Probably why I'm usually quiet.

I think it has less to do with being a submissive and more to do with personality.

I am very extroverted

sublimelysensual -> RE: Introvert or Extrovert (5/12/2007 8:36:39 PM)

Definite introvert, and I've gotten the "I thought you were just snobby thing" as well. In the past I've had jobs that were basically 99% public speaking, but, it was always in the role as an instructor.. if I'd had to talk about myself, I would have been a mess. I detest being the center of attention and could happily converse all day with someone about themselves without revealing any more than my name, lol.

I have had to learn to occupy myself since an early age. My sibs were all out of my cohort. I was "quiet" at school until I got with people that knew me. But that is not necessarily the sign of an introvert. I like me, I like other people, I do not need other people around me to be happy though. I also do not need to converse to be happy. I do like watching people though and I am interested in them
