Go to Canada LadyEllen, you do not want to come to the US. Some of us would welcome you with open arms. However the US generally speaking is not liberal as far as anyone who isn't white/straight/christian is concerned. I am seriously considering of moving to Canada myself, I am really getting tired of the BS that goes on here in the states.

good idea...let's all move to Canada...the US is so full of BS...maybe Canada should buy America

A lot of northern US'ers are moving to North Carolina because the cost of living is so good.  The hurricanes only affect the shore towns...it's a huge state, you can move inland!  The winters are mild and you can stay inside to get out of the sun.  I think it's a match!

True, western NC/SC/North GA in the Blue Ridge mountains are beautiful areas... haven't spent much time there in the winter, but the summers are noticeably cooler than here on the coast. Most of the people i've met there are very friendly, but there's also a fair amount of red-neckery to be found... outside of the college towns, there's not going to be a lot of TS acceptance. On the other hand, there isn't as much nanny-state interference here as there is in other areas of the country, so if  people give you a hard time, you can always shoot 'em
