I see... so what brings you here, exactly? If (and I quote, never would I say something like that) 'opinions are like assholes', why do you rant in the hope of getting acreditation from other people? Just crouch over a mirror and enjoy the view :-)

the name of this section is "random stupidity" and I find it an interesting way to kill time before having something more interesting to do..no fear, i will be at work in a few hours ..unlike some others[8|] and I have made some good friends / lovers here...that is why i hang around...if you care to know.

Oh well smirk away now that you have insulted those of us that are truly disabled. I do not look as though I am disabled, I do not walk with a stick or crutches. I have no outward signs of disability. I go to work as often as I am able to and yes I receive disability payments. Anyone that wishes to spend the 12 months in hospital followed by 12 months being cared for by nurses and family at home to earn their disabilty payment is welcome to it. I would swap my disability payments any day of the week to get back that time and to not have to go through the pain and suffering I and my family had to go through.

If you have personal issues with people on this site take it up with them and do not denegrate those you know nothing about.

It's really thoughtful how non-disabled people are able to look at us and just pass judgement. I worked and paid in since I was 14, also. I., too, had to sue to get it. All the while, there are cases all around me...like the 18 year old who got it for dyslexia, or the mentally retarded couple and their 3mo baby who are collecting no questions asked-none of whom have ever worked or paid into the system. As I await the outcome of the court case, my house is in danger of foreclosure, receiving shut offs on electricity, etc.Ever try to raise support a family of 5 when you can't work? I admit there are fakes using the system ( I can name 15 out of personal experience), but a bunch of "holier than thou" people loudly proclaiming "Duh, I can't see you're disabled:" to suit their agendas or personal predjuices don't contribute anything positive to the debate, indeed, they often hurt those truly in need.

it depends on what state you are in also- as to what the chances are.

pahunkboy -> RE: I'm Sick Of Hearing "I Am Disabled!" (5/7/2007 10:20:49 AM)

I dont think the OP meant any malice. I have talked to her- and she really is a nice person.

If anyone is going thru the system right now- you can contact me off the board for advice.

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: I'm Sick Of Hearing "I Am Disabled!" (5/7/2007 10:21:14 AM)

I am referring to those people who truly are NOT disabled and working the system....some of those I know personally that I am referring to- not that I can look at you (susie) and tell if you are / are not disabled or in pain, I can not...

kittinSol -> RE: I'm Sick Of Hearing "I Am Disabled!" (5/7/2007 10:34:26 AM)

Just take her word for it. Trust me, I doubt very much many people would claim they are disabled for any other reason than it being the case.

Perhaps you have a little case of the para?

I worked with them, I knew what was going on, actually in some cases I knew more than I wanted to.
No, I did not know how much money they made all total, with the medicaid, public assistance, public housing, food stamps, plus their jobs.  Actually I tried not to care about their personal lives.  I did my job, I left their issues to their counselors.

So basically you did not know if the car they drove belonged to them or a friend/boyfriend, how long they remained on welfare, how hard it was for them to really make it (you stated they ate better than you, and yet the evidence shows kids living in poverty are often obese and malnourished. Did you go over to their homes to see how well they ate?).

I hear these things often, and they do not reflect the reality of life. People who use welfare as a way of life stick out like a sore thumb, the ones that use it correctly go unnoticed because they are not on it very long.... jerks always are more memorable than honest decent folk... and a lot of honest decent women ended up in the system, which penalizes work.

KatyLied -> RE: I'm Sick Of Hearing "I Am Disabled!" (5/7/2007 11:14:22 AM)

All I know is what I saw.
These were clients who were mandated to get their GED and/or attend job seeking classes because they were being hit with welfare reform taking away their public aid.  One girl told me her car was in her mom's name, but it was her car.  I took her at her word.  I agree the system of 15 years ago did penalize work, I don't know anything about welfare now, I've been out of that biz for many years.

Bearlee -> RE: I'm Sick Of Hearing "I Am Disabled!" (5/7/2007 12:05:35 PM)

Well!  This sure tells leagues about both krissi and katy, doesn’t it?   <sigh>

And now I have a funny taste…  yuck!

Ex-welfare recipient,
bearlee (who had a seriously disabled child)

kittinSol -> RE: I'm Sick Of Hearing "I Am Disabled!" (5/7/2007 12:27:51 PM)

Bearlee, I wouldn't worry about them :-)

I have talked to more than a couple of women in that situation, their hubbies left when the child was not perfect.

You know, I would not change my experience for anything, it gave me empathy for people that have less than I do. I remember telling one of my professors about my experiences, and he said "Julia, you know you had things going for you that some others don't.. so you were able to pull yourself up. Be grateful!". He was the one that sponsored my independent research so I could get credit for it.

So you were in charge of rehabilitating the people that had made welfare a lifestyle, and you wonder why you saw the sore thumbs more than the ones that used it for the purpose it was intended for. You know, your view would not be based on the total population of welfare recipients, for example, I had a diploma when I had to apply for welfare, I would never have seen you, and you never saw the welfare moms that had anything going for them such as a degree, a diploma, or work experience... so I can understand why your view is one sided.

LaTigresse -> RE: I'm Sick Of Hearing "I Am Disabled!" (5/7/2007 4:00:41 PM)

Of course we have my former daughter-in-law that only wanted joint custody so that she could continue to get the welfare to help pay for her.......BMW payment, frequent crableg dinners, trips across the state to visit her new man, etc etc etc........all while my son cares for the children 24/7 AND pays $500.00/month child support on top of her welfare cheque and food stamps.

Yes there are abuses in any government handout programme. It is inevitable. However, for many people, it is a life saver. You cannot condem a whole system because of those that will abuse it.  Unless of course you are willing to go get the education and experience then volunteer to help monitor it.......for free.

RobertCloud -> RE: I'm Sick Of Hearing "I Am Disabled!" (5/7/2007 4:28:00 PM)

It is so wonderful to have block keys.
I see someone that judges people without the knowledge to really have that right.
KatyLied, you had no right to judge those people you were supposed to be helping. You became jaded, and it shows in how you react to others.
You have no right to judge me. You do not know the full story of the situation between Krissi and I, even what I sent you in email does not come close to explaining the manipulative nature of the other but it will do no good for you have passed judgement.
You have no right to do so, yet you have. You have made an ass of yourself in this and showed your true colors to those that have read this.

Aileen68, I know you do not care for me either. Truth is I also find you rather judgemental in that you pass judgement when you do not know the full story. I have seen you attack others as well. So be it, continue your attitude, I know you for what you are someday others will see it as well.

I love BLOCK. And therefore blocked and thrown into the trash where they belong these have gone.

Aileen68 -> RE: I'm Sick Of Hearing "I Am Disabled!" (5/7/2007 4:37:37 PM)

Wow...I didn't realize I was back in high school.
Actually, junior high.  You are a grown adult aren't you?

Amazing...

Robert,  there are exactly two people in this thread who have made asses of themselves and Katy isn't one of them.  Do yourself a favor and quit while you're behind.

Do you actually think I will read the message you sent me?
If you are going to air your drama in public, I have every right to make judgements on what I read.  I don't care if you like it.  Sheesh.
