Im a registered slave and 30 plus year practicing masochist. Slave in my world is ownership, my dom has lent me out. I have no safe word. Submissive is just and orientation. A slave is a comitment it is usualy preety hardcore. A submissive can be entry level or any of the many other level. Its an opinion for what it worth.

A registered slave?

That's just precious.

So what are these "other level"s? And does masochism require a lot of practice for you?

I guess I'll have to let Himself know that our relationship is just an orientation and our TPE isn't hardcore because I identify myself as a submissive.

I think I might be an entry level submissive...because we are on the vanilla side more than the hardcore. However, the next time I am curled up all comfy in bed with a book and he tells me to come do something...I am not sure if an entry level submissive would say, "do it yourself, I'm reading and comfy" or get up and do what he asks.

Try saying 'Get it yourself'. You will know if you're an entry level submissive based on how that works out for you

I met a woman from here and my first thought was "she's a girl." Within a minute I said, "she's a slave." It took about another minute for us to fall into bed together.

It's very hard to quantify exactly the moment that I knew the difference nor can I tell you why I knew the difference.

What you are not understanding is that "for what it's worth" seems not to be worth much if a relationship doesn't match your definition.

I am owned.
[My] Master would never loan me out.
Submissive is an adjective that describes who you are or that you have submissive qualities.
1. inclined or ready to submit; unresistingly or humbly obedient.
2. marked by or indicating submission.
Slave is a noun; but it doesn't hold a deeper meaning than being a submissive person.
The "deeper meaning" comes from the context of each relationship.

I might say it while I was getting up to do it, but I am playful that way. Seriously, I don't even think about it, just get up and do it...almost like the action is automatic.

Or is it my understanding of the two words that is wrong? Explanations are appreciated.

No, your understanding is right for you - and that's fine.

But, the implication that you think that there might be a "standard" definition of these terms makes me wonder if you have any clue about the lifestyle.

The lifestyle is a fabulously broad church, with many terms holding a huge range of different meanings for people.

Sincerely, as you acquire more clues about the lifestyle this will become very clear to you.

Well, since I wouldn't want the thread to bog down on just one point I'll ante up.

Yeah, Carol and I have talked about scenarios like that and we feel it's kind of a no-brainer question. Honestly, the very black & whiteness of it makes it an easy command to obey unless you want to assume the master in question has lost his mind.

There. Discuss :)

Waiter! There's a finger in my popcorn! I'm calling my lawyer. You'll be hearing from Dewey, Cheatham and Howe soon.

Well I am new to all of this so my opinion is less valuable. But I am trying to learn. I thought this was more mental than physical. Isn't this about power sharing. The sub or slave has the power they are willing to give. Less power from a sub and more power from a slave? I think they all have their limits however. Am I missing something?

This topic has been beaten to death and is always troll bait. The not-so-subbies, especially those with no real life experience but a 10,000 post count, come flocking to these threads to liter it with disinformation. Then the TNG anti label coalition come trotting in claiming that it is all how you personally feel and labels mean nothing. Follow all that up with the insecurities of the PC gang that wants everyone to love them so they say everyone is correct from their own view points and some poor newbee looking for real answers is totally screwed by the conflicting answers.

Well, all those people are full of shit. Labels do matter, otherwise we cannot communicate with each other. You picked a gender label for yourself when you joined CollarMe and you can see where honesty about your gender is important to those with gender preferences. So it is the same with D-types that have submissive or slave preferences for their relationship style. The one thing that is generally agreed upon is that submission and slavehood are not connected or comparable. They are different. One does not lead to another, neither of them is on the path to the other. Nor are they measurable against each other in that one is more or less than the other.

A submissive takes the subordinate position in a D/s relationship. The degree of control is negotiated by agreement, they do not have to surrender all control outside the negotiated framework.

A slave, the subordinate position in a TPE or M/s relationship. They do not have to be a submissive or have a submissive personality. They have to obey Master as a subordinate that surrenders control in that TPE or M/s relationship.
