If anyone should be responsible, its for governments in the west to ensure better details about healthy lifestyle and diets, and to ban foods known to cause health issues.

HELL NO IT SHOULN'T!!!!

GOVERNMENTS????

It is about personality responsibility, not government bans.

And why only governments in the West???

Pcos maybe? I've heard people say having PCos makes weight loss harder.

Pcos or PCos is? Are?

Polycystic ovarian syndrome. One of the leading causes of infertility in women. VERY commonly associated with women who are overweight particularly in the midsection and highly linked with insulin resistance, such as the case with me.

It's a disorder of the endocrine system, i.e. hormones. In a nutshell, our ovaries produce eggs that are not released like normal each month but rather turn cystic and hang out inside forever and ever. A syndrome is not a disease but a collection of symptoms and this syndrome includes the symptoms of acne, increased body hair, balding in some women, carrying weight in the midsection, insulin resistance, and others that I'm probably not aware of. Basically anything you might expect from a screwy hormonal system. Besides the obvious annoyances though, and possibly not being able to have kids, pcos doesn't seem to cause any big health problems. It's not going to kill us, that is.

I prefer big (chunky) men,  but it seems the big (heavy) men prefer stick figures.  Go figure.

Sorry... No... I like curves thanks.

I was listening to a morning talk show on Friday ...they were talking about TOFI...I listened up.
T thin
O outside
F fat
I inside.
It was in regards to some article that some thin people are fat inside, they have gross choleserol types of fat deposits around their major organs and are not any healthier than grossly obese folk.

I have trouble envisioning people who judge others purely by their looks and these same people believe that they are in some way perfect. No one is perfect and having worked in a funeral home I can tell you  people are ugly on the inside. Many people have medical problems that cause them to be overweight. Yeah I know most thin people scoff at that and when those thin scoffers get cancer perhaps we should scoff back at them.

Should we encourage it? Well we encourage young girls to not eat or barf up what they eat so they will look like the ultra slim models on TV and in magazines. I mean 90lbs with ribs showing and no curves is in no way appealing to me, nor is is healthy. Then when they die from the consuming desire to be ultra thin someone says why?

Oh and btw there are alot of overweight men in this world too. Yet I don't see many threads about that. Do people not care about those guys? Perhaps people should start some so they don't feel left out.

You're kidding right?  There are many genetic reasons why everybody in a family would gain weight, including what area of the world their ancestors came from.

There isn't only one medical reason to make a person not be able to lose weight.

ok call me stoopid then!

what genetic reasons?

how is this??

Since I'm feeling honest today, I'll admit something. I hear a lot of stories about people who were/are very "healthy" you know, fit and thin and exercise freaks, and then one day, bam! They have a heart attack at age 35 or a stroke at 28 or something like that. Well, who ever knows if it's genetics or if they took some wacky drugs that screw them up but I alway get a small laugh out of those stories. Not that it's right. I know it's not. I should not take pleasure out of anyone else's suffering (unless it's within the realm of BDSM of course) yet I do. Anyone who grew up as a fat kid understands.

Since you're a male I will excuse you for not knowing about polycystic ovarian syndrome. Then there is insulin resistance which is not the same as diabetes but is an insulin issue and in my case specifically, having polycystic ovaries has created a wonky hormonal feedback loop that tells my body not to respond to food the way a normal person would. This is just one issue I have dealt with personally that makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to lose weight and (key words) *keep it off* unless I am willing to accept a life of continuous hunger and denial, which I am not. These problems are genetic and not caused by anything I did, but run in my family (several female relatives have the same.)

What about chemical imbalances in the brain causing depression? That's genetic, right? Well, some people who are on meds for that gain huge amounts of weight due to the drugs. Other people self medicate their depression/anxiety with food.

I won't call you stupid but obviously you have your mind made up that being overweight is completely under a person's control (unless they have hypothyroidism) when this couldn't be less true. I'm sure others know of genetic or inherited problems that can be a cause of weight as well.

ok searching the brain... searching ....  its coming to me... ok got it....

lets see for insulin resistance and i do not remember my exact formula but this will get you started.

This is not medical advice LOL
you need:

Extra chromium and with icreased dosage of chromium you nee to also increase the selenium proportionately.

typical diabetic dosages run about
450micrograms chromium polynicotinate and
300micrograms selenium

ALA (alpha lipoic acid) typical diabetic dosage range is 600mg to 1200 mg's.

vanadium i think around 500 micrograms to mmm about 1 milligram or so.
zinc 25 - 35mg
copper 1 - 2 mg
biotin 1 milligram
then digestive aids like hydrocloric acid or shit i cant think of it.. oh bromelain.
then a good b-complex 100
and of course calcium, magnesium, the rest of the minerals and vit c, e etc all in standard doses.
use stevia for sweetner and lace it with xylol to give it body.

Anyway that will increase your insulin sensitivity :)

littlespicyone -> RE: BBW's, Is this something as a society that we should encourage? (5/12/2007 6:22:37 PM)

Unless a person has no addictions, s/he has no room to talk about overweight people. Addictions like smoking, drinking, dieting (yes it can be an addiction), drugs, and caffine just to name a few are just as unhealthy as being overweight. I just think, in the words of Jesus, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Everyone who says fat is not beautiful ...
Everyone who says fat people are lazy ...
Everyone who says fat people can't keep up ...
Everyone who says fat people should be ashamed ...

Stereo-typing is bad. Every. Single. Time.

There are lots of ugly skinny people.
There are lots of lazy skinny people.
There are lots of skinny people who wouldn't bother to keep up.
There are lots of skinny people who are ashamed.

You could stand a  hard working, pretty,  kind Fat woman next to a  skinny, lazy ass, hateful, ugly woman and society would still accept the skinny woman first. That's just the way it is.No amount of these threads will ever change it

IdiotMale -> RE: BBW's, Is this something as a society that we should encourage? (5/12/2007 6:29:09 PM)

Face reality people...If we were all given magical powers that would allow us to change anything about our bodies,99.9% of us would. Including those of us who are for the most part, happy with our bodies.

I agree swt, we can debate this until the end of time and fat discrimination will probably never end.
Fat discrimination has been documented and it is real, especially when it comes to relationships and
in the employment sector.
