Do you use the L on the left hand formed by forefinger and thumb to remember it's your left?

I don't have complete trouble with directions but I do NOT instinctively turn in the correct direction when told left or right - I have to think about it. Drill for AFJROTC was hell for me, and I hated being in the middle, as I'd fuck EVERYONE up.

Not being good w/ directions doesn't mean you aren't intelligent, and I don't want people to think I think so. Just venting a frustration...

I hadn’t thought of that one, will keep it in mind, Thanks!]
I did not take your OP personally, I know that my ‘glitch’ frustrates my friends and I always warn someone new if I am meeting them somewhere.

catize I have the exact same problem, it takes actual concentration for me to do the left right thingie. God forbid if north south east west are added into the mix! I've always called myself geographically dyslexic, there is just some weird malfunction in my brain when it comes to left/right. Using the L for the hand doesn't work with me, I usually have to clench a left fist then right then back to left to figure it out!

I'm sooooo glad I'm not alone.

If someone was so put out by someone asking for directions I wouldn't consider it to be a characteristic of a Dom but that of a crazy lunatic, bitch from hell who should be avoided at all costs...Goes for males as well as females.

We use the tap system.  I tap his leg if I want to go left and tap the window if I want to go right.  My body knows which way to turn, but my mind can't translate it into the right language.

I do; I even know how to (correctly) fold a map, tyvm. I have maps for California [the state map], for my area, for the areas that I travel too, all marked with highlighters for a given route {different colour for each different destination}, including a list of alternate routs, just in case. Thank goodness for AAA, they rock.

I leave a state map in the car, and then I have guide books and local maps for where ever I may be going.

i used to have to look at my wedding ring to remember which way was left, now when giving directions, i just say your way as the driver or my way as the passenger.

It is nice to know that i'm not the only one who "forgets" their left and their right.

HA!

My partner says it's a good thing we live NW of town so that anywhere we go, there's an 80% chance that I'll have to start out going south (or in my language "right")

I have literally had people give me personalized directions that include "If it's in the afternoon, turn towards the sun."

I actually can do well with directions if I have them, and don't freak at getting lost nearly as much as I used to, and have an exceptionally good relational memory so once I've BEEN somewhere, I can connect the dots and understand it much better next time.  But no, the irony of having no geographical aptitude AND calling myself an albatross is not lost on me.

If someone can't figure out where a major location is or a place that is not, granted, "tricky to find," then I would write them off also.  In the business world when you have to get to a place without looking like an idiot, you don't bug the person that might potentially mean a great sum of money to you in a deal unless there is something glaring that is unclear about the meeting place or location.

I've had to figure out how to get places in far away cities using a combination of public transportation, figuring out cab fares, asking hotel conceirges for advice, calling up nearby landmarks, whatever it takes.  It's called being resourceful. If a submissive cannot do that to figure out where to meet, especially now that the INTERNET exists, then he's probably not bright enough to keep up with me.

Or, he's lazy.  Both are qualities I don't want to deal with.  I like a man that can figure things out.

For the record, I get lost in a mall, amusement park or anywhere I have not been before.  I also lose my car in large parkig lots if I don't pay attention.  I only got a GPS this last year, but before that, I used preparedness and research to get over my inability to find places, even if I had a map in my hand. I've never been late or lost for a critical business meeting, because I do what it takes - including getting there with plenty of time to spare or using the night before to research the location.

i find it amusing that people blame getting lost because they used mapquest or the like....to me thats like blaming the lawn gnome for the brown spot on the lawn....it was human error that caused the missdirection....but whatever makes you feel better...
amusing stories from my mapquest adventures - once had directions tell me to make a left towards [suburb of phoenix] and the road sign clearly pointed towards the right...i turned right and still found the place....another time they had me go in the complete opposite direction at one point as if it were a mirror image of the actual route....my point...yes the directions can be wrong, but if you use a little logic, actually use the map they give you and figure out where the computers programming did not give you the right direction...you can get there....
as for the OP...i feel ya...i hate giving directions cause half the time i make up a different route each time depending on construction and traffic...((sat on the 410 parking lot lately? ))
take care

Perhaps part of the problem is that  there are so many submissive men compared to dom women that they use silly geographical testing to weed out the weak ones from the strong.. perhaps there is some sort of evolutionary draw that dom women have to sub men with a strong sense of direction...lol. I have noted that no dom men had this particular pet peeve about sub women, perhaps that is because it is harder for men to get kinky women to go out with them in the first place, so having a bad sense of direction is not a deal breaker?

If I had a dom guy get all perturbed because I took a wrong turn on the freeway, called to let him know it and ask him if he knew a quick way back and he got bent out of shape about that, well I might not take the time to find him... I might keep on driving in the wrong (or right) direction. I do not take well to tests from dominants I have not even met yet, unspoken or otherwise. If a dominant expected me to track down the location of our meeting place with 5 different mapping sites he would not be meeting me. For one it sounds almost like domming me to order me to do such things without even meeting me, for another it seems rather hostile in ways.  "Im not going to tell you as one human being to another how to meet me for a possible intimate relationship because if you can't figure it out you are worthless"... someone with that attitude would not be someone that I would want to meet anyhow.. like who the hell do they think they are?

I was kinda wondering the same thing myself. Not sure about everywhere else but here in Iowa most phone books even have them.

I used to travel all over the eastern half of Iowa 4 days a week, usually logging in over 300 miles a day, alot of it on back country roads. The only time I ever had to ask for directions was before rural Iowa got 911 addresses......no road names and signs, or house numbers.

A typical conversation........."your gonna want to go about 2 and a half miles down the gravel, you will come to a big curve going right, there will be a barn with a big corn crib on the left, your gonna want to take a left about 100 yards past that barn, and right after you cross the second bridge your going to see a big oak tree at a T intersection ......."

I have trouble with directions, too. I have no visual acuity (cant picture things in my head) and have trouble processing things due to PACC (partial agenesis of the corpus callosum).

That being said, I dont sit in a corner and cry if I have to go somewhere new. (Naw, I wait til AFTER Im lost for that.) Usually I'll mapquest the location, ask for clarification from whomever Im meeting there or someone who is familiar with the location, and I'll bring my cell incase I get lost so I can call. When Im REALLY hesistant about going somewhere new I'll subscribe to verizon's navigator on my cell phone for that day-its $5.00 a month or $3.00 for one day. Its great, because it speaks turn by turn directions and gives orientation and mileage. :)

Speaking as someone with a geographical IQ of about 8- I appreciate directions.  Specially as I'm still a newbie to this town, mapping directions aren't always accurate and aren't always the best way.  And if you have to worry about parking somewhere OTHER than the restaurant, that's another anxiety issue.

So I would feel someone who got pissed at my asking for directions would be a clear sign that we weren't meant for eachother- because my geographical stupidity would surely be too much of an irritation for us both over time.

Oh, thank you for posting this...as someone who gets turned around at the mall, and the butt of jokes that I need a GPS at all times, I appreciate that I'm not alone at asking clear directions ANYWHERE...

Yeah same here I have negative sence of direction i get lost if you take me around the block and it is very sacary for me to have to go someplace I have never been befor causes a lot of angziaty and panic when i dont know where I am. Master has talked me out of many a wrong turn. Its nice to know im not the only one who gets lost rather easy!!!

Oh and Aqua you can ask Master how many times i have missed the exit to his house ended up on a parkway(I dont drive parkways I dont even really know how) had to call him all panicky and such to have him sit on the phone and literaly baby feed me directions back to his place!!! he has no problem doing this as he knows I get nervouse real fast when i dont know where I am aspecially in the dark  HEHE I love that man

I must be really weird and crazy. I remember when I was on the road for the insurance company and was living in Cedar Rapids IA, I had had a late appointment with a farmer clear down in the middle of no where almost in Missouri not far from the Mississippi river. To get there I had driven north from a town just on the southern border (Keokuk, IA) in the fading summer daylight on some twisting turning country roads. When it was time to leave the farm I had the choice of going back south 30+ miles to get to the main paved highway or turning north out their lane on the gravel road. Now I knew that to my east was the huge river.......probably not going to get too lost in that direction, somewhere clear off to the west, would be the main northsouth interstate I needed to find OR many many miles....about 70 miles.....to the north, was the main eastwest interstate through Iowa. Therefor I knew if I started heading north and west I would eventually hit either interstate, either one would get me home. I began trekking down this old country road at 10ish at night, windows down, CD playing.

After awhile my cell phone beeped to tell me I had a message......(in the middle of no-where Iowa there tends to be many pockets of no service).......it was the person I was living with wondering where on earth I was. So I called home. "I am, north of Missouri, west of the Mississippi, east of I380, south of I80, and heading north and west, should be home in about an hour and twenty" .........I was.

It is things like that that tend to drive those I love batty.
