Yeah, because the freaking Byzantine/Arab war from 632 to 750 was a tea party.

And the Conquest of Persia back in 651 was so meaningless..

I guess the Conquest of Afghanistan in 870 didn't mean anything.

Or Conquest of Transoxiana: 662-709
Conquest of Sindh: 664-712
Conquest of Hispania: 711-718
Conquest of the Caucasus: 711-750
End of the Umayyad conquests: 718-750
Conquest of Sudan: 700-900
Conquest of Italy: 831-902
Conquest of Anatolia: 1060-1360

And who could forget the Byzantine-Ottoman Wars: 1299-1453

Not to mention, except in passing the Ottoman Empire, the Safavid Empire of Persia, and the Mughal Empire of India.

Now we're blaming Carter for 9/11? I'm sure we'll hear next why Pearl Harbor was his fault too.

Well, since Bill and Poppy Bush are on the fundraising tours together, Poppy asked W to lay off of Bill.

Who else to blame if not Bill Clinton?

As the Simpsons put it: "History's Greatest Monster!"

WHO TRAINED HIM IN TERRORIST TACTICS?

Fargle, 1300 years?
The U.S. has only been in existance for 230 years.

Are you suggesting the first 200 years went along swimmingly, and then came The Evil That Is Carter?

p.s.  I think his point was more about militant Islam than about the United States, popeye

I find it ironic there are people here still defending Carter and his "Bush prez" comments when after all Carter himself  (THE WORSE PREZ IN AMERICAN HISTORY) has recanted his statements about the Dubya presidency.

President Carter is the patron saint and founding father of radical Islam. Without him it is doubtful there would be radical Islam.

You do not present any facts to back up that baseless accusation.

The fact is, Islamic radicalism has existed long before Carter even began his campaign for presidency. For example, it's been said that al-Qaeda (as well as other fundamentalist groups) derived its base ideology from the Muslim Brotherhood, whose belief encompassed a resistance to western imperialism and the creation of an Islamic state. The Muslim Brotherhood has existed since 1928.

I agree with minnetar. Rather than espouse a point of view here based solely on opinion, facts should be used when presenting an argument. It's far more convincing that way. :)

While this is true, providing a fact to back up an opinion requires two things

a)  Willingness to research one's opinion

b)  Willingness to accept the fact that research may completely invalidate one's opinion.

Many posters simply voice an incendiary opinion, fail to back it up, wait for the crap storm, and then stand
off to one side and call everybody else too emotional to think clearly about the subject.

*LOL!!*

I have found b. to be true for me in some situations. Sometimes I cop to it, othertimes I don't. *grins*

I was just dismayed over Mercnbeth's comment, particularly when I knew it wasn't true. I've been reading "Dying to Win". Near the beginning of the book, the author presents a history of suicide terrorism which has existed since earlist times in Islamic history. And as we are well aware, suicide terrorism is a tool used by Islamic radicals. The idea that Carter inspired Islamic fundamentalists to view the west as something to be destroyed in order to promote a universal Islamic state just seems to be giving Carter far too much credit.
