Status: offline 		Everyone around here thought when the illegal aliens did that, they should have been immediately rounded up, put in buses with bars, and put back over the border.  And not politely. 

*edited to add...I can't believe you didn't hear much of the whole nation screaming in disgust when this happened, popeye... and now that my blood pressure is rising at where this thread has gone, I'm outta here for the night.*

Had I known about it I would be offended. but not disgusted like I am with you. Just because people weren't out in numbers to make a possibly volitile situation truly volitile, don't think that many people weren't offended.

My husband is a veteran of the Army (serving during a time that allows him membership into the American Legion, but no, no duty in a war zone), I am the grand-daughter of a WWII veteran.  We were both deeply offended and outraged at the images.

Two weeks ago, we went into a local Wal Mart and demanded the management do something RIGHT THEN (at after 11 at night) because the flag they were flying had torn off at the top and was looking like it was being flown upside down at half mast.  The assistant manager said something on the order of "we'll get around to it".  We looked at her and asked to speak to the manager, because they would 'get to it' now.  Or get us a ladder so WE could do it.

They got to it right then.

There is outrage.  What you are proposing is disrespectful to the flag.  You want to make a political statement?  Fine.  Just realize that the political statement you are making is disrespectful to the flag.

Again, that is your opinion.
The only "disgust" I have is for that pos in the White House and any Senator or Congressman who tries to shove this "Bill" down our throats!
And I have the right to fly my flag upside down if I want to, don't I?

That's what is happening in this country, a wholesale breakdown of law and order and no-one in Washington is doing anything about it!
Political correctness run amok because some people don't want to "offend" illegal aliens!

Status: offline 		Popeye, I can see where you're coming from... This nation is in a sad shape. It's not just GeeDubbya... It's not even CrookShank and AlGore or Jimmy Peanut or Ronny Raygun or PoppaDubbya ... none of these presidents did it alone, and none of this damage was done over 1 term. It's been going on for quite some time. I can't say as I agree with you, however, on turning your Glory upside down. This is a sign of despair and loss of hope.
 
I for one still believe there is hope for this great nation. It's not in the Rep's or the Dem's ... it's not in any party. It's in the people that give a damn enough to fight for her.

By the federal rules already posted earlier about what is and is not disrespectful to the Flag, you are being disrespectful to the Flag by flying it upside down for a political statement.  That is not an opinion, but fact based on federal rules.

However, due to First Admendment rights, you have the right to fly the Flag upside down and be disrespectful.  That doesn't mean anybody else will like it or that you won't take flak for your choice.  But yeah, just as people have the rght to wear clothing that has the flag on their backs, or butts, or the flag made into the jacket itself, or even burn the flag (and thus show their disrespect for the Flag that way) you have the right to show your disrespect to the Flag too.

Status: offline 		Whether it is disrespectful or not, it's a political statement that some people use to show their distaste in what the government is doing. It's not my cup of tea, i think it's distasteful, but i'm glad i live in a country that understands showing dissent isn't a crime.

As for a North American Union, i don't see the big fuss. So we'll be the USNA instead of the USA. We'll have to rework our chants at the olympics, but it's not that big of a change.

You know there Mate, I don't think you and me are going to agree on this issue.
I just got off the phone with a Navy buddy of mine in Washington state and he heard about it too and they're going to be flying their flags upside down as well.
And last week the American Legion came out formally against this amnesty bill p.o.s. as well.
Let them try and arrest us all if they want.

The only problem I can Honestly see, is that even most of the vets here have forgotten something.  No I am not talking about how we served or what we had to do in the armed services.
"Flying Old Glory "  or your "Battle " flag upside down is the emergency signal for DISTRESS.
 
So Myself , I wouldn't  do it. I might take other countries flags and hang them upside down or burn them. At least in the United States, you dont go to jail. Go to the these other countries and see  what happens to you, if you to this to there flag in public.

The bill yes  is a piece of garbage.   but He must be out of his mind.   He knows better than  to fly  Our flag or any battle flag upside down.  You want to protest this.do it with email , letters, burn the flags of all these other countries or hang there's upside down......

Status: offline 		I find this all very interesting.  The flag itself is only a symbol of the ideas and beliefs of this nation.  Now the real question is, which ideas and beliefs.  Those that existed before Bush decided that 4th admendment didn't really count that much, or that habeus corpus itself was just something that we didn't really need (lets face the facts, habeus corpus either applies to everyone or no one, and if the later is true, then those "rights" we all love to say we have as americans, essentually only exist as long as those in power allow them too for each and every one of us), or those that exist now.  So it just boils down to this... 

1) The flag represents the older ideas, and rights we had before they were taken away for our own good.  In which case should not the outrage be at all of those in power that allowed these laws to be passed, who like to fly the flag, and wear it on their lapel. 

2) The flag represents the current rights that we still have, and the ones we nolonger have just don't really matter anymore.  This is the flag that represents the current ideas and laws that govern this country, and if you feel that the changes over the past 10 years are for the better, then great, this is the flag as you see it.

I noticed a post earlier that mentioned family members dying for the flag (I am going to read that as the ideas and beliefs of this nation, that the flag only represents).  So I am only left to wonder which ideas and which beliefs, the ones we still have or the ones we lost.
