In the spirit of the thread, perhaps I could propose myself as the one true guide to it? I could put together a few texts to establish my right to do so, murder anyone who argued against it and seize wealth and power along the way..... but that wouldnt necessarily be in line with the religion. Mind you, its not what Jesus proposed either as I understand it, but that doesnt seem to have hindered his followers much.

Ironically, you basicly described what non-Christians have done to the Christian religion to try and gain power with it, but yet you still try and blame Christianity for the actions of those. ;)
That would be like me blaming anyone who follows Asatru for the faults of the idiots within it.
Certainly that would be the case Nightphoenix - except that we do not propose that some holy spirit can be or is invoked to keep us on the straight and narrow - our actions are our own affair. And on that same subject, we dont get forgiveness but must face the consequences of our actions - which makes another crucial difference in that I cannot drink wine and eat bread and then be exempt from the evil I do, and nor can I be persuaded by someone else that on their authority I can perform evil and it be good.
