How old was the kid, Selfbnd? Maybe the lad was just sewing his wild oats in this case, but what about other cases? The issue is that were a precedent set for by-passing age of consent/sex laws, then you'll have others looking to this precedent in subsequent cases. What happens when a 13 year old girl is brought before the courts, your daughter perhaps, and the defence mount a case to the effect that she was looking for it and in such cases the precedent has been set. There is a legal age for a reason, and it shouldn't be by-passed for a reason, regardless of the circumstances. Once you start bending the rules, where is the line drawn? If the kid is under 16, then it's illegal. The responsibility lies with the adult to ensure they live within the law.

13 is certainly too young. The guy in this case was 16, but at least in California the age of consent is 18. As I have said, the US is one of the most puritanical nations in the Western world--You cannot smoke, vote, or have sex (yes, sex between two consenting individuals under the age of 18 is statutory rape) under the age of 18. You cannot drink under the age of 21. But you're free to join the army and die in Iraq if you're 17 in some cases.[8\|]

Hello KatyLied, et, al. I agree. When you sign on to be a teacher you sign on for the moral high road, like it or not. Teachers need to be discrete and they can not have sex with their students. Actually age of consent laws are set by the states not the Feds. In much of America 18 is not the age of consent. Here in Alaska State law( some cities and bouroghs it is higher) is 16, unless the above 18 person is in a position of authority over the underage one, like a teacher, coach, police officer, ect. I am not going to argue that this kid has been destroyed, but the teacher certianly abused her power, and deserves a punishment.

No, if you are an adult and if you have sex with a minor, you ARE a pediphil, no and, if or buts about it. And since many don't know what an adult or minor is, when you turn 18 you are theoretically an adult, before that, you ARE a minor. And that may be different depending on your location, but in Ohio and most of the USA, these are the ages of consent.

#1 I don't think this woman is attractive at all..she's not good looking/hot/sexy/foxy or whatever you want to call it, in my opinion..she'll need a hell a lot of makeup to look fascinating to me. #2 Despite age then it takes 2 to have sex and seriously how many people wait for the LEGAL age to have sex. They have sex when they feel like it or when they're ready to do it (the normal way that is) they don't think about "ohhh I wonder what the law say" #3 so the boy is a friggin idiot to admit it or bring it up & the teacher is an idiot not to have given her actions a thought. Result: what is the point throwing the teacher in jail when it was consensual, it's not like she was raping him duh!

According to the statistics, more than half of high school seniors have had sex before graduation. My first time was when I was 16 and she was 20. I'm not psychologically damaged and emotionally disburbed for life. My grandparents were 8 years apart. When my grandmother was 23, she met my grandfather who was only 15, and they ended up eventually getting married. They've were married for 55 years. I think people mature at different ages. And the law does not take this into consideration. There are 15 years that can handle that situation perfectly fine. But on the other hand I think there are 18 year olds that are not yet ready to handle that situation. Everyone grows at a different pace. People have different opinions on this as well. Ruth Bader Ginsberg on the Supreme Court thinks age of consent should be as low as 13. It is age 14 in most european countries. It is 14 in Canada, and 12 in Chile. The UN World Health Organization says it should be age 15.
