The same thought crossed my mind. However, if this option is on the table, it would only do Paris harm to know about it. After all, what would this teach her?

Status: offline 		I don't know about everyone else, but I'll be sleeping more soundly knowing that Paris Hilton isn't roaming the streets of LA and OJ, Robert Blake, Kobe Bryant, Mel Gibson, and Phil Spector are free.

Being a judge should be an obligation as part of membership in the bar. We should not have professional judges, nor judges that run for office. The need for Judge Roy Bean, went out with the death of the old west. Abusing your power as a judge, should be an offense that can get removed from the bar. This isn't my idea in all honesty.
 
Cops are just not forced to play by which the rest of us are forced to play. Everyone is outraged that the rich get special treatment. The solution is obvious, as is the solution for cops that give their buddies a pass when they catch them breaking the law.

There should be firm rules as to who gets "special" treatment in society. It's already okay for some groups who have laws that see to it; EEO/ECOA for example.

Status: offline 		i could have seen them letting her out on a SERIOUS medical condition, liek withdrawal or some shit, but a rash? *sighs* I have nothign against Paris other than she and the rest annoy the hell out of me. Now as far as her going back to jail? Good on the Judge. Three days didn't teach her nothing other than to maybe get a better lawyer and to not get caught the next time. 40 days? That will teach her something. And as for the statement in the article refering to overcrowding, she wasn't with the general population of the county lock up so it holds no bearing on he serving 10% or 100% percent.

She was locked up with other rich criminals, politicains and maybe a minor celeb or two. I really doubt having her there was any kind of burden, considering how lil she eats. I say lets just let her sit and think and move on to bigger and better things. Like her partner in anorexia Nicole Ritchie be right behind her landing in lock up?

Amen!! I don't have any issue with the girl either way. She is part of the ultra rich out here in Southern California. They are spoiled, self indulgent, often obxoxious. You get used to them. Their parents are not much better. She served the average that a non-violent low level criminal serves in L.A. county...maybe more she went to jail!

I don't see why she should serve more time than the average person, and being a rich spoiled bitch isn't a federal offense(in fact out here in parts of Orange County its almost a requirement for residency) anymore than being a jealous and envious one is.


This brings us back to two lashes with a Singapore cane......

Status: offline 		This Sheriff is slamming the judge on the news right now. He said the only special treatment Paris got, was a especially tough treatment.
 
I usually have no attention span at all for this sort of thing, but this is just good stuff. I really don't know jack-shit about Paris, but if she can get cops and judges to flame each other in the press, I hope she decides to relocate to Houston.

Please.. gimme a break.
Jail is supposed to give you a damn good reason not to commit another crime because you don't want another vacation in hell !! Tent cities as jails? Bring 'em on. Maybe the numbers will drop and we can save a few more tax bucks. Or maybe the numbers won't drop but yanno.. they made the choice to risk a holiday in that tent city and we still save those tax bucks.

I'm not looking at Paris any differently than I'm looking at anyone else. There are some that have it.. and some that don't. Money, looks, fame or otherwise. Welcome reality.

Paris didn't only drive drunk. she was busted not once but twice after for driving while her license was suspended. Then goes into court pleading she didn't know it was. Not once but twice !!!  Only her personal secretary knows for sure. Hello? Please.. again.

Crimes (and she did commit a criminal act) have max and min penalties. It's up to the judges to determine from the defendant's own actions and attitude what length and type of punishment they feel it takes to get past the pretty blonde or otherwise roots and make the point penetrate.. If you behave in this manner the result will be your life will suck for the amount of time I decide, and under the circumstances I decide,  it takes for you to see the light.  I will make these decisons based on the the act you committed that brought your unhappy ass before me AND on the attitude you exibit. I'm not looking at 'who' you are. I'm looking at you.  

Many people have found themselves with much more extreme sentences than Paris got. And many less. The chips fall where they may and that's the chance ya take when ya break the law. Just because she's Paris doesn't mean she isn't held to that same level of risk. Sentencing is all the about the attitude, attitude, attitude of the defendent.. not about who they are. Her attitude thru the whole thing until she got handed a vacation in the slammer was one of not taking any of it overly serious. To the point of showing up late for her court appointments (and yes that was a plural) and waltzing in as if it mattered not. She was afterall, Paris Hilton. You or I did that and we could expect the worst. The same went for Paris. She brought it on herself. Just like you or I doing the same would have.

The Calif jails are overcrowded. Nobody is denying that. And some are released earlier than others. Again.. no arguement. But, in the case where a judge orders a no early release there's usually a damn good reason. Defendants are judged on a case by case standing with 'guidelines' in place. If that no early release order had been on you or I's sentencing instructions you can bet your last dollar it would have been adhered to. It was because she is 'Paris Hilton' it was ignored and because she is 'Paris Hilton' her initial release was handled the way it was.

As far as how this applies to anyone else? Famous or not.. it doesn't matter. This wasn't about anyone else.. famous or not.

Has it occured to anyone that judge didn't give a flip about anything but what he felt it was going to take to get her attention? Has anyone thought just maybe he was sending her the message she just might need to hear with his orders? Not because she's Paris Hilton. Because of the attitude she displayed. I could tell early on watching as the events unfolded it was going to take a hard line approach to get the message thru. I thought the judge really put himself on the line in doing so.. but did the right thing in her particular case. Not because he was trying to send out a louder message to anyone of fame or fortune.. or to any of the rest of us. I think he did a good thing for her in taking the tough stand he did. And I think that was and still is his intent.  He's sending her a message and sometimes it takes a louder one for some than others. I honestly think this judge is keeping her long term better interests first and foremost in his mind.

She knew, her atty knew, her parents knew she was risking this sort of backlash by the absolute direct violation of that court order. They knew her case was being set up for massive media coverage.. in advance!!
Paris's reaction to the judge.. her screaming tantrum told me.. she hadn't learned a hell of a lot in her brief 3 day visit in LA's finest B&B.
She still doesn't get it.

Maybe that judge is a pretty intuitive guy afterall.
And maybe a little more time to think on this will do the trick. I certainly hope so.. for her benefit.

I dont particularly care one way or the other about Paris Hilton.

However, the judge specifically stated that she serve 45 days in jail and that house arrest with a ankle bracelet was NOT an option.  Lee Baca specifically violated meting out the punishment dictated by the court by sending her home.  This is reminiscent of AnencephalyBoy's "signing statements" where he specifically states that he is not bound to enforce the various laws given to him by Congress.

I think contempt of court charges should be filed against Baca.  But perhaps I am a bit bitter.   When I evicted a person and spent $14,000 getting an unlawful detainer and a court writ to take back my property, the LA Sheriffs office refused (initially) to do their job and act on it.  I had to pay extra money to my attorney to get the judge to specifically order the sheriff's office to act on the legal writ the judge specifically ordered them to act on.

We have a saying down in the harbor, cant do the job, dont pick it up at dispatch.  In other words, if one is too stupid or incompetent to be a sheriff or President, dont run for office.  I have issues with people who take on jobs with the expectations that other people will carry their weight.

We have laws and consequences and the like for a reason.  They are decisions made (in theory) by our elected representatives or voted into law by the body politic.  The first step into establishing a dictatorship is when one or a small group of individuals feel they are above the laws instituted by the Body Politic.

Throw her ass in jail.  Let her do her time.  She gets depressed, I recommend a thorazine drip.
