Status: offline 		I was talking with a fellow Dom the other day, he told me he was in the band in high school. Not really in the IN crowd there, I thought.  Then again, I wasn't in that crowd myself. I never really considered myself a geek or anything, but I certainly wasn't in what would be called the popular crowd. That was actually a conscious decision on my part. But as I thought about it, I realised that, from what I know of them, none of my kinky friends were. So now I wonder, how about y'all? Were you in that clicque? And if the majority of us weren't, could that have any bearing on how we turned out? This should be fun.

Status: offline 		I was a cheerleader. I was also in the band. And I took karate.
I was in the "in" crowd, but I was also in the "other" crowd.  I was the type who had friends all over school and could move between the groups with no one daring to give me shit about who I wanted to be with.

Status: offline 		HEY WATCH IT BUDDY!!!!!  I was in the band.  First chair clarinet.  Everyone knows the band was where all the cool kids hung out. Lord, I was such a geek!

Sometimes I would be late to class on purpose so I could go to the principals office and get paddled.  I would try to go last so I could try and watch the other kids get paddled. Yep, I was kinky then too. Did anyone else do this?

Status: offline 		I was in an interesting position.  I had friends among the popular crowd, but wasn't a trendsetter myself.  I got along with and was accepted by most of my classmates, regardless of their clique, but wasn't "sought out" by anyone.

I love it, never thought of that. Of course they weren't paddling by the time I got to HS. I was the one who actively resisted any kind of catagorization. Bit of a loner, too.

I was big into rodeo and horses (a "cool" thing at my rural school) but the rodeo crowd didn't want much to do with me due to the fact that I was also a "smart kid". The "smart kids" didn't want much to do with me once they figured out that I was gonna be valedictorian (jealousy perhaps?). They also thought I was a "redneck". The athletics crowd didn't want anything to do with a "a nerdy cowgirl" either.

So I hung out with the geeky crowd...the D&D geeks, the band geeks, the goths, the gay guys, whoever didn't fit in elsewhere.

BTW, I graduated 2001, and they were still paddling....but I was the ultimate goody goody and never even got detention, let alone any more severe punishment.

HA! They still paddled in my Jr. High School. We had one teacher who did it. And he did it to everyone at one point or another. My mother caught wind of it and lordy, did it tick her off. She went stomping into the teacher and told him, "if you have a problem with my daughter you tell me. I brought her into this world and I'm the only one allowed to take her out. You touch her with a paddle and I"ll show you how to use the damn thing."

Still makes me laugh.

Status: offline 		When I was in elementary school I was the leader because I was the fastest runner and the fiercest fighter.
 
When we moved and I suddenly went from elementary to middle school, it was a different story. I wasn't rich or beautiful.  I was broken.  I was the outsider.  I learned to use my smarts to excell above most.  And those who were as smart, I would be friendly with.  I still outran everyone and /enjoyed/ pissing them off in PE class.
 
In high school, I was a loner for the most part.  Still using my brains as my best distinguishing mark.  Did sing in the choir.  I loathed the 'herd' mentality and scorned such things as partying, sex, drugs, alcohol before age 21, and popular music.

Status: offline 		Let me put it this way... if i hadn't graduated prior to Columbine, i probably would have had a security officer following me around all day. Trenchcoat, headphones, sunglasses (indoors)... if i didn't get called on in class, i could get through the day without talking to anyone, and the second the bell rang i was gone, usually down the fire exits.

Status: offline 		in high school, i was a popular geek - i was friends with every clique from cheerleaders to Latin Kings (a Hispanic gang) which surprisingly i was the good church girl who never dated until senior prom. i was part of the school club scene - newspaper, Spanish, Law, Model U.N., French, Stage Crew, Chorus, Catholic Youth Ministry, etc - my picture was everywhere in the yearbook.

Status: offline 		I didn't go to a traditional high school, so there weren't exactly the same kind of cliques you'd find elsewhere.  Still, I was kind of all over the place.  I had friends in different cliques, and moved easily between them.  I dated the class president for a while, and was in the "in" crowd.  I was also in band and orchestra (another first chair clarinetist here!), and did geeky things like the Rotary Club--though, when the Rotary Club wanted to host a SPAM-themed party, I decided that was too geeky for me and decided to join Amnesty International and the Gay & Lesbian Club instead.  I was the odd straight person in the Gay & Lesbian club, but they were cool about it.  I was also pretty popular in the Hong Kong and Thai cliques--again, I was the odd person out, this time for being white, but it didn't seem to matter. 

Come to think of it, I never really "fit" in any of my groups, but I've always been good at blending in and adapting to new situations, people and environments.

Status: offline 		I was with the drinking/jock/smart kid pulling D's/experimenting with pot and cigs/walking to school/ditching an hour after school started/rock and roll with a closet disco persona to boot  kind of crowd.  I was like Ferris Bueller, I got along with everyone, but I didn't have a friend with cool car.

No..I never was and never will be a clicquee groupie.

and how doesn't being part of a clique affect how we turn out.... hell.. I am still not part of a clique... does that mean I am still developing my fucked view of the world.... or maybe it just means what it is.. I don't do cliques.

Status: offline 		I was in the "smart" crowd which, in high school, turned into the monochromatic crowd that has no real rules...and no one stopped us from doing anything. We never needed hall passes or permission slips.
 
We were a law unto ourselves...because we produced the school newspaper, yearbook, morning news, dances, pep rallies, and anything else that required any planning. After my class graduated, they had to pay a company to put the yearbook together and all of the "news" stuff came to a screeching halt. I believe the Student Body Association took over the formal dances.
 
I was also the commander of my AFJROTC...which actually made me pretty popular. We had the only building with access to the outside that didn't set off alarms. If you wanted to skip school without going through the front office, you had to come through the ROTC commander's office.  Well, if I was there, anyway...half of the time I was the first one out of that wonderful door.
 
Mostly, I knew a lot of people, but my closest friends were in the "smart" crowd which turned mostly gothic...mostly.

Status: offline 		It depends on what year you are talking about.  When I was in the 6th grade I was definitely not in the in crowd.  I didn't wear the right clothes, have the right accent...  For the 7th grade I moved to a different school.  Before Christmas break I was not popular.  After Christmas break all the boys from the popular crowd wanted my attention.  I am not sure what happened in that two week time span, whatever it was the boys took notice and the girls instead of being indifferent, hated me.

In high school, I was very popular.  However, I went to a school geared towards the hard sciences and filled with highly intelligent people.  We studied hard and played hard.  In another school I would have been a geek and not very popular; in this school I was part of the "in" crowd.

Status: offline 		I sort of drifted throughout all the groups. Some might say I was popular. I was Cheerleader Co Captain, dated the Quarterback, Homecoming and Prom Court/Queen, Science/Math Geek, BrainBowl, Student Counsel, The Newspaper staff, Thespians and NHS. I also smoked so I hung out with the party crowd/stoners as well. I grew up in a pretty small midwestern town so there wasn't much to do on weekends but keggers out in the cornfields, cruise Eldorado and make boys suffer.
