ORIGINAL: farglebargle Please don't group Firefighters with Cops. If I remember correctly, I was talking about anyone who puts themselves in harms way... Neither group is trained to choose suicide as a first response, and neither group is required to act like they do on TV.. quote:
Cops are tools of The Man, whose role is to enforce the Class divisions. As such, I don't really care if cops die. They, like soldiers, are paid to die. Which sentiment shows that you are no different from 'the Man'. You think that other people are less than human if they fall into classes against which you hold a bigoted dislike. quote:
If they have forgotten that, ( Or their UNION gets in the way of their Duty ) that's their problem. I doubt that either of the examples under discussion involve policies set in response to union actions. Do you think that there is a verifiable record of unions suing or filing ULPs specifically so that police can hide from a firefight? I would like to see it if there were. More likely that the current standards in police training and department policies (not always the same thing) have resulted in employing tactics in such situations, that are different from what you have learned about police on TV. quote:
But, of course, I believe we have the 2nd Amendment SPECIFICALLY so we don't need Cops to protect us, so in essence, it's just keeping unemployables off the dole in an interesting way. That has been suggested for the peacetime military as well, with evidence in support. But since the police are specifically provided for in the Bill of Rights, why would anyone care if you cherry pick certain amendments to be in favor of, while pretending that others don't exist. ( You do know which amendment directly authorizes police don't you?)
