TheHeretic -> Iraqi Village Slaughtered (7/4/2007 8:16:34 AM)

A village too tiny to even appear on the maps, livestock and all.  The second link mentions that the search for victims has stopped, but they still aren't sure how many people were in the shallow grave.  10-14 is the guess.  Men, women and ___'s.

        http://www.michaelyon-online.com/wp/bless-the-beasts-and-children.htm

I won't echo the criticism of the mass-market/mainstream media in the second link for not being all over this immediately (it's a holiday week for the suits).  I hope the story gets told after the 9th though.

Good link, and have a good Fourth, my friend. [;)]

TheHeretic -> RE: Iraqi Village Slaughtered (7/4/2007 8:31:30 AM)

I wonder sometimes, Level, if we even HAVE a propaganda machine.  Maybe we should hire the guys who do the Budweiser Superbowl commercials with the Clydesdale Wagon...

Rich, it is important that you posted this information.  I read the text but could not bear to look at the photos.
This journalist/blogger is doing very important work and I do hope the story is picked up by the major media sources.
(And of course it is a holiday week and the grand-pooh-bahs are on vacation.)

domiguy -> RE: Iraqi Village Slaughtered (7/4/2007 9:29:19 AM)

Michael Yon does not receive funding or financial support from Fox News, movie, book or television deals at this time. He is entirely reader supported. He relies on his readers to help him replace his equipment and cover his expenses so that he may remain in Iraq and bring you the stories of our soldiers. If you value his work, please consider

told the Iraqi commander, Captain Baker, that it was important that Americans see this; he took me around the graves and showed more than I wanted to see. He said the people had been murdered by al Qaeda.

Soldiers from 5th IA said al Qaeda had cut the heads off the children. Had al Qaeda murdered the children in front of their parents? Maybe it had been the other way around: maybe they had murdered the parents in front of the children. Maybe they had forced the father to dig the graves of his children.

Later in the day, some of the soldiers from the unit I share a tent with, the C-52, told me that one of their Kit Carson scouts (comprised of some of our previous enemies who have turned on al Qaeda) had pointed out an al Qaeda who had cut off the heads of childrenSoldiers from C-52 say that the Kit Carson scout freaked out and tried to hide when he spotted the man he identified as an al Qaeda operative. Just how (or if) the scout really knew the man had beheaded children was unknown to the soldiers of C-52, but they took the suspected al Qaeda to the police, who knew the man. C-52 soldiers told me the Iraqi police were inflamed, and that one policeman in particular was crazed with intent to kill the man who they said had the blood of Iraqi children on his hands. According to the story told to me on 30 June, it took almost 45 minutes for the C-52 soldiers to calm down the policeman who had drawn his pistol to execute the al Qaeda man. That same policeman nearly lost his mind when an American soldier then gave the al Qaeda man a drink of cold water.

I hope every one of our soldiers comes home safely....And soon....

Michael Yon has his perspective....Fuck it could have been al Qaeda it could have been some sort of tribal retribution...He doesn't know....He writes what he is told.  Is this accurate or should it be held in the same light of all of the other crap that we are fed?....I think so.

I like the part about the soldier giving the "child killer" a cold drink of water....It was a nice touch.

He's writing what he saw, and reporting what others who saw it had to say.  Once upon a time, that was called journalism.  The spin will come from the suits when they are all back at work on Monday.

domiguy -> RE: Iraqi Village Slaughtered (7/4/2007 10:02:12 AM)

How do you know the spin isn't already inserted in Michael's bias?......Where is the questioning...."how do you really know that al qaeda is responsible?....Because commander if this is just some sort of tribal bullshit....Then it really doesn't help us sell the "war on terror.""

So I would guess the spin might already be in...It might have been a nice touch if the soldier would have given the "child killer" a foot massage....lol.

Just fuckin' with ya Rich...Love ya like a brother....But am I all wrong?

Just mostly, not all, DG.  It's an initial report.  His reaction to the horrors he documented is pretty plain and reporting the reactions of other witnesses is journalism 101.

I'm thinking of that famous pic from Vietnam, of the South Vietnamese police chief executing the Viet Cong prisoner in the street.  If they hadn't talked that IP down, do you think the other reporters in the area would be all over THAT story?  Would they even mention what caused him to snap?

Initial reports tend have some of the facts wrong, but assuming it WASN'T AQI?  If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it must be a right-wing trick?  Do I need to send you my link to building a tin-foil hat?

Yeah.  They'll be seeking the death penalty in that case.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Federal prosecutors filed notice Tuesday that they will seek the death penalty if former soldier Steven D. Green is convicted of killing an Iraqi family and raping a 14-year-old girl.

The notice, filed in U.S. District Court, cites 12 alleged offenses related to the slayings in the March 2006 slayings in the town of Mahmoudiya, including that the deaths were premeditated, involved sexual abuse and were committed with a firearm.

Tin foil hat firmly in place....I have a bad habit of chewing on the straps (made of tin foil as well) when will I learn?

Trying to recall a joke...went something like ...."Look at those dead bodies....Only al qaeda can arrange bodies like that."

Why couldn't the dead have been at the hand of their Sunni enemies or vice versa? Why would al qaeda kill a village? Were they collaborators?  Too many unanswered questions for this tin foil hat wearing moron....I usually just don't jump at the first explanation given....Unless it makes my Democratic brothers and sisters shine....lol.
