Regrettably, I have a profile on ALT.com, but other than their points program (which is not one of my favorite features),  it's not as great as CollarMe.com. I only wished I were successful in finding my one on either sites, but then, this is why meeting someone in real time is better. Just my humble opinion.

Hey I got kicked of alt to for the same reason-mentioning tribute, when every major pro I know has used that site for business!  I am proud to be banned-it was a horrible site, a million winks and messages from ummmmm lower quality men then are here-I love cm, hate alt.

I  like alt quite a bit but I use it for very specefic purposes. My expierence in meeting people from alt has been very poor, even getting a conversation going can be very difficult. Nowadays I use it mostly for chatting(depends on what your looking for but find the right room for you and it can be great) and blogging. I think it's very difficult for younger people starting to go to alt cause to really get anything out of it you have to pay and we tend to be broke. There aren't a ton of younger people there and those that are can be very hard to contact. It does beg the question other than CM, what are the alternatives?

I used to use alt a few years ago when it was free for women to search. I left when they started requiring payment. I'm not about to pay money to do so. I did meet one of the most awesome people in my life there, he and I are best of friends. Mostly though, I found that the men who contacted me there were all about getting laid, sometimes in ways that were way too bizarre even for me.

I never liked the feel of the site and always felt like I needed to take a 'psychic shower' whenever I'd visited.  I did meet one person, the one who trained me for 3 months last summer, but one of the first suggestions he gave me was to join CM and read the forums and so this has become 'home'.  I did keep a blog on alt for a month or so but eventually I deactivated my account.  It seemed to be much more about weirdos looking for NSA sex than about actual BDSM.

What I really like about Alt. is the detailed profiles, surveys, lists, and questions I and others can fill out, really helps break the ice and let me know if an email is worth replying to or not. I'm a woman and never had to pay to look at profiles and don't care much for searching; guess I am happier playing defense than offense on that site, lol. I do prefer collarme, but know several people with profiles on both sites just to cover their bases.

it is a money pit designed to get your cash. Much better to make a "contribution to CM, like I did when i joined.

I've had an alt account for close to 9 years, and over the years it's been gold, silver, or, as now, standard. I keep the membership around in case I want to go into the chatrooms. Thats about it. In all that time, I met quite a few good folk, real players and fun friends...but every last one I met though the chatrooms or in-house IM.

They've had plenty of my groats, and i don't expect that I'm likely to be paying them again anytime soon (tho with my recent singleness still fresh, I might be accused of optimism..ask me again in a few months)

I actually met a slave from Brasil on Alt.com, but she contacted me. The site didn't seem real user friendly from what I remember, and it seemed like most things on there cost money.

Collarme.com is basically the new Alt.com. There was a time when it was free with very few limits and they would give silver memberships if you uploaded a photo or two. There were lots of genuine people and just as many who were not. But that is the nature of any website, anywhere you find humans you will find flaws.

Alt.com was the largest and best in the begining of 2000. ALT.com is the bdsm version of Adult Friend Finder. In fact it is owned by same web company. In the late 90's and early millenium it was basically the same site as collarme.com. It was around the same time that bondage.com came out. Then Alt.com developed more of a "swingers" and "roleplay" type reputation and bondage.com became the new alt.com. Then people began using bondage.com as more of a forum and discussion site.

I personally only discovered Collarme.com a year and a half ago even though I have been on alt.com and bondage.com since '99. Collar me is the new bondage.com and bondage.com is the new ALT.com. Now most people think of alt.com as the "swingers site", bondage.com as the "forum site" and collarme.com is the new "bdsm personal site." So Alt.com is the oldest and collarme.com is the newest, However....

Many people on "collarme.com" are only on the site for the forums and discussions, even though it is also a bdsm personals site. I also see alot of members bad mouthing each other in thier journals and complaining about the site and the people who use it. It seems as though there will always be a new bdsm website claiming to be the largest and best. So a year from now or perhaps 5 years from now there will be some one on message board saying "Has any heard of collarme.com? Are there genuine people there?"

I met my Sir on Alt nearly a year ago, so I have good thoughts of the site [:)].  No, I didn't pay for the membership so contact was limited.

i like alt.com i've made several friends on there and its how i met Sir . i mainly chat on alt.com and i come here for the message boards i'm picky about message boards and chats.. so it works for me..yes alt does have its faults but nothing is perfect..

I have never even looked at alt.com.
I had never heard of AFF until this thread.
Before I meet Phoenix, I didn't have a profile on CollarMe.
I always prefered local interaction but that seemed much easier to do in a larger city.

Having read about half the responses, I have something to say no one has mentioned yet:

I don't know about anyone else, but I mostly have kept an account on alt.com, and keep going back, purely for the erotic stories. THOSE are worth looking at, in My opinion.

Also, although I usually DON'T, I at least CAN chat there if I want to. I can't do that here.

Never gave alt any money, don't know if I ever will.

If we're comparing alt.com and collarme.com, collarme.com definitely wins.

What I like about Alt was/is the the webcam option. There was a bug in the system where a non paying member could watch unlimited webcams by entering the <display my webcam> option but it got detected a few months ago.

Most of the webcams dont show a great deal but one or two do. I only ever saw one male dom fem sub cam but the cam was too far from the action.
If you like to watch men wanking then there's no shortage of them. lol
Fewer women but they do exist.

Forgot about the Gallery chat room where I have seen some red hot pics. and video extracts. If you think I only go there for the titillation...you are right.
