One more time people...if a woman wants to call herself a BBW she can. If YOU don't like it, move on with your life and avoid her. The overanalyis of this term is mind numbingly boring.

P.S. I call myself a BBW because I feel it is true and I am the only one I have to answer to. It is also a term that I first heard back in the day when I did plus size modeling. It was created by the media and then became utilized online, just as HWP, etc. is used.

Semantics can be argued until the end of the world and in the end, it is how an individual perceives of themselves and projects that perception. YOU can choose to agree/disagree with what is being projected, but you have no right to tell someone how to perceive and project their own image.

Hey red, I agee its everyone's right to use whatever term they want...Im all for it...if they feel beautiful then damn im happy for them honestly...my only question is what acronym are those of us who dont fit the bill supposed to use?

Yes, it is very exclusionary....and someone up there said I wasnt fat enough to be a BBW......yet no one could give me the weight limit for becoming one....at what point are you allowed to consider yourself a BBW and not just be your average overweight american? Because I like to think that in BDSM we (and that is a very generic "we" which is meant as a catch phrase) have dispensed with some of the crippling political correctness that stifles vanilla existence. That we have found ourselves in a "lifestyle" that allows the uninhibited expression of self. Because our needs are different than what can be satisfied by vanilla existence, we have congregated in a community (of sorts) that allows us to do away with ballast of PC and express ourself freely and without judgment.

As I said earlier, this was the first time I had ever heard the term BHM and find it just as preposterous.

Calling yourself a BBW is the same thing as me calling myself a gentleman - it is something that can only be determined by others.

If I kick a kitten in front of an old lady in a wheelchair, making her spin out and getting me the first spot in line, I can scream about how I'm a gentleman; no one will care.

Call yourselves BBW, HGBBW, JKWWBBBW, TEDGESTBBW, or whatever you want.  Some will like it, some will hate it, and some will tell you to lose weight.  If you let that affect you, you're not calling yourself a BBW anyway (Take that however you want).

I would never describe myself as a 'big beautiful woman' or BBW.  I consider that I am big (as in broad, rather than tall) but certainly not 'beautiful'.  That doesn't mean that I necessarily regard myself as 'ugly' either, but certainly I don't regard my dimensions as particularly aesthetically pleasing.  'Short and stout' would probably capture it reasonably well, but the initials SS and SAS are already spoken for by other groups.

I have never heard of the term BHM.....All of this time walking through the bathrooms and parks of Chicago shouting, "I'm looking for a "big handsome man!"....When all of this time I could have just been shouting "looking for a "BHM!".....I suddenly feel so empty....Someone hold me.

i know lots of BIG gurls who are not beautiful...they are just big.
i myeslf.....however....AM one of the beautiful ones.  ;)

Acronyms are tricky. Big Ugly Girl is not good. Beautiful Overweight Woman (for those who can't yet aspire to BBW-hood yet) is just too cutsey. Big Ordinary Woman has the same problem. Weight Height Ordinary Redhaired Extremist just gets too much mail. Smartassed Loveable Unusual Twit has a nice ring, but again falls into the trap of defining MYSELF by adjectives that were not awarded to me by an organized committee. Who IS this committee that should judge me and what adjectives I may humbly lay claim to, and how do I contact them and get the official stamp of approval?
