Status: offline 		MOSCOW (Reuters) - A woman set fire to her ex-husband's penis as he sat naked watching television and drinking vodka, Moscow police said Wednesday.

Asked if the man would make a full recovery, a police spokeswoman said it was "difficult to predict."

The attack climaxed three years of acrimonious enforced co-habitation. The couple divorced three years ago but continued to share a small flat, something common in Russia where property costs are very high.

"It was monstrously painful," the wounded ex-husband told Tvoi Den newspaper. "I was burning like a torch. I don't know what I did to deserve this."

Status: offline 		Well it's a fun piece of 'news trivia' but really, is it that funny? The man's seriously injured: I find it hard to laugh at that. Why say "he deserved it"? Do we know this man?

As far as I know, assault is assault. GBH isn't anodine and it's not because it's a man's penis that was injured that it makes it amusing.

Status: offline 		The question also is how reliable this story is; maybe it is nothing more than an urban legend. After all, there are no names given at all. Even an agency like Reuters is not immune to falling for that.
A true story that happened when I (Friede) was a kid and lived in Germany: There was a woman that was regularly beaten up by her husband, a co-worker of my father. One day she sneaked up on him from behind and hit his head with a heavy cast-iron frying pan. The man survived with a broken skull, and it was amazing how he changed. He suddenly became very docile; what's more, he developed the habit of looking fearfully behind him every now and then, as if he was afraid she might be sneaking up on him again for another dose of the same.

I noticed this, years ago, on the talk shows. If a guy brought his wife on and admitted to infidelity, she would smack him around to the audiences delight but, when the reverse was true, the guy was "expected" to sit and listen to her tell him how her infidelity was his fault and if the guy didn't accept responsibility, the audience would boo and hiss. Heaven forbid he even look like he was going to actually smack her. That brought the security guards out (Yes, back in the day, even Oprah had them).
