As I observe the number of submisssives' profiles, I have to wonder who has the edge in terms knowing what they want in a Dom/Master, experience and most important, having confidence in who they are?

I don't think it has one whit to do with age. It depends on how self-aware a person is and how early on they have discovered and acknowledged their deepest and most intimate desires of who and what they want to be. Someone who is 50 might have just gotten to know this part of themselves when the one who is 35 might have known since they were in their early 20's. And how long someone has known doesn't have everything to do with it either. It's not the end-all be-all. It's strictly personal awareness and acceptance. IMHO

My first thought is a submissive who has a greater sense of self combined with a pile of self confidence and some experience would have more of an "edge" Especilly when they are seeking a Dom/Master. I can't say this is absolute as I may be wrong and can be proven wrong. I think of having a good sense of self and some experience is a definite asset to a potential Dom.

In my mind, age isn't a factor. Knowing what you want takes a plethora of time and finding what you seek takes even longer. It's all a matter of who invests more time.

This is what I was going to say when I read the question. In the lifestyle, age doesn't always equal experience. You should never discount someone because of their age. Though, I'm sure it comes into account when browsing profiles. Some dominants like no experience, some like their potential submissives to have some. It's a matter of personal opinion, and, like Aine said, how self-aware you are.

Its not about age. Its about self-awareness. Whomever is more in tune with their submissive side is going to have the edge over the others.

age is a big factor.. like anything until you have experinced it how do you know. someone with little experince will not know as much as someone that has a lot. because the way the human mind is wired. I keep hearing the arguement age dose not matter.. But it does heres why stability. emotional, fincial and family. Our envirment around us plays a big factor in what we do and how we react to things. i learned a lesson from a dear friend collage kids tend to think the minds of their professors not theirs.. once they are out of school they tend to prove and see theorys for themselves... such is that with bdsm or ds... learning who we are compatable with and not is determind by our social interations and time with in the lifestyle hence it is called the right of passage...

Disclaimer: this is just my opinion - not to be taken as truth - just what happens to be running thru my mind at this time... Ok, i think an awareness of self is more important than age. That being said, i'm not sure someone who is "younger" would be as self aware as someone who is "older" as a general rule. Of course, there are many exceptions. i think i have an "edge" over someone who might have been in the lifestyle longer than me because i am very aware of who i am and what i'll accept.

I'd rather take each as they come, and assess where they're at on an individual basis.

think of it as a enigma to be solved.. there is perfect fit to everything in some way ... finding that way is life experince. when we talk about baggage i am sorry but our baggage makes use who we are. people always want things in the good times i have always heard this i can not do this cause i am going through a bad time right now like they are eclusive to the life sucks mode.. it does not work that way.. we are who we are in good times bad times anytime.. how we deal with both is what makes us unique... so age does matter.. how we deal with life comes from life experince ds or other wise ..

Depends on what the dominant in question is looking for. If they are looking for someone "young and hawt", than those are the submissives who will have the edge. If they are looking for someone experienced than those with experience will have the edge. If they are looking for someone both young and experienced, than probably the 24-30 year olds who have been doing this since they were 18 will have the edge. I don't find previous experience to be very important. It's useful and desirable but such things can be taught. I would never turn someone down for their lack of experience alone. Nobody started out magically experienced after all.

I'm talking about the people that have some sort of tragedy in their life that requires them to grow up faster. Maturity and age are not the same thing. Niether does age equal experience.

Im 42 and can say without a doubt I am far more self-aware than I was when I was younger and it definitely helps in knowing what I want in a dom. A couple of 'wrong' ds experiences will also learn ya a thing or two along the way. So I think its a combination of some experience mixed with some self-awareness. (for me anyhow)

Even surgery, something where you find 30 year men at the youngest generally, is not about maturity or life experience. It's soley because of the years it takes to learn. It takes 7 years at least to complete medical school and internships, plus the four years of regular college first. Though younger people have actually been known to be in these programs when they display the quick intelligence needed to advance faster than their peers.

Age doesnt create an edge. Experience does, sometimes. But age and experience do not go hand in hand. Willingness definatey does. For me, willingness and interest means far more than all the experience in the world... regardless of age. DV

Young subs definitely have the edge. Their bodies are young and hard. They don't have extra skin or stretch marks from childbirth. They can wear bikinis and actually look good in them. From what I've seen, many Doms seek subs years younger than themselves. Doms in their 20's often go for the 18 yr olds while subs in their early to mid 30's attract the interest of Doms in their 40's, 50's and 60's. If an 18 year old sub showed interest in a Dom in his 50's or 60's, she would have a much better chance than an older sub trying to win over a younger Dom.
