What is a good way to advertise in public that you are a dominant type? As in clothing and such? For parties, club going, etc. Any suggestsions? It's really easy for a submissive to go out wearing a collar to spark conversation, but what accessories might be good for a dom?

If you have to dress it,you probably aren't.

If I am in ratty shorts and a torn t-shirt, no one mistakes me for anything other than a dominant. If I am wearing my kilt and carrying a sword, people cross the street...lol.

But if you have to ask the question, you are likely not going to convince anyone you are ready to assume the "top" position to anyone.

If you want to be typical male dom- black tshirt and jeans, black leather boots and black leather vest.

A suit is always a good call.

I personally ADORE costumes, a corset vest for males, gothic type stuff, renaissance of any era, a stylish hat, a unique cane...something that shows you know how to use your assets and make a good presentation. But I am a clothes and costume slut.

And jeans and a tshirt can be just as good. The boyfriend wore a plaid button down shirt with cargo pants and flip-flops to the party on Saturday and he had a great time.

ROFL.. Ain't that the truth? You'd think merely showing you personal sidearm of choice (I used to carry sword and dagger.. I like being versitile) would make people more confident in you, afterall.. you're clearly telling them you like shiny objects, right?

As for dressing "Dom", well.. that's a hard one. There's not really one specific style. You can look goth, pimp, sluty, etc. and still be Dom. It's a state of mind more than a state of dress, and you should let others know by how you act.

Oh but don't put floggers on your belt and swagger around.

There are some typical male dom types- the overweight short dom with bushy beard, the really tall skinny type with ponytail and goatee, the typical middle aged guy just hanging out, and the really hot guy who's usually gay.

We're all just normal people.

Hello There,
My Master is an Old Guard Dom. He trained for ten years under an old guard couple. The name of our leather family is the house of thunder. Much like a biker group wears their colors so does my Master. He has something on him that's blue & gold and the sign of two crossed thunderbolts as his sign. This is sometimes to be a ring, emblem, patch or vest, belt buckle, bracelet or jacket. I've seen other masters that display a family crest as well. Most times I've seen this in the form of a patch on a polo shirt.
I've also noticed lots of black clothing & leather on the scene dom's in the dungeons I play in. A small percentage wear the exact outfit everytime they play in public or attend functions.
I think overall there's no set standard, it's what you choose to make of it for yourself.
Sincerely,
sub suzanne

what's that old wives tale about wearing leather cuffs on either wrist? left is dominant? right is submissive? or is stapling a cow to your genitals the right answer?

OverlordAlpha -> RE: OH, so THAT's what a master looks like! (7/11/2005 7:59:41 PM)

Ah, so Gemeni, it's okay if you're don't know what I'm talking about. No need to be rude. I'm talking about offline and outside of fetish groups. There are ways in public to project your dominance as a male from across the room that has nothing to do with fetish clothing. I am talking about clothing that may get the attention of someone otherwise too shy to talk about their fetishes.

I am thankful for the others who shared their ideas though. And especially the ladies who knew exactly what I was talking about. I always find that women in general tend to be the most perceptive beings on the planet. And yes, they even notice what you are wearing.

Oooo, wear rose charms, wear triskellion charms, wear something that has a subtle bdsm flare to it, a symbol or phrase, nothing forceful, but definitely suggestive.

Gemeni -> RE: OH, so THAT's what a master looks like! (7/12/2005 8:21:08 AM)

Let me tell you a little story here.

I once dated a sub who told me "We need to get you some black leather pants, and a leather vest,so people at the club will know who you REALLY are."

At this moment I came to have a knowledge of her as particularly STUPID AND SHALLOW. She didn't last long with me after that.

You are making the assumption that the wrapper makes you into something-it does not.

You can wrap a turd in gold foil, and it's still just a turd. And if it's rude to point that out-so be it. Reality is often rude, get used to it.

Gemeni, did you meant to directly reply to me or was it more a reply to the OP?

The op.

softandshy -> RE: OH, so THAT's what a master looks like! (7/12/2005 8:44:45 AM)

Cow stapled to the genitals, roflmao Very good glass doll! That would have been a dead give away to me!

No offense intended Overlord, but apart from those who use protocols for identification, like the Old Guard, i imagine most people in BDSM could pass for vanilla when not engaged. Not everyone, i understand, we each have our own style, but most.

JerryInTampa -> RE: OH, so THAT's what a master looks like! (7/12/2005 11:13:08 AM)

The testosterone poisioning is interesting to watch. "The'll know you are a dom from across the room if you are a real dom (TM)".

To address the post: I'm not entirely sure. At a BDSM event, you could go with the classis "black-on-black" leather look that, particularly combined with a flogger or rope, identifies you as a top.

This seems to make a lot of sense with "swingers BDSM", but it's not been an approach for me. If you really want to be direct, a T-shirt that just says "Top" or "Dom" on it should get some attention. Perhaps not all of it will be what you like. Alternately a slogan that's toppy but humerous ("no more mister nice guy... on your knees") or the like on a T would seem to accomplish the goal as well.. at least to the point of getting subs considering the possability.

OverlordAlpha -> RE: OH, so THAT's what a master looks like! (7/12/2005 4:10:20 PM)

Well, Gemeni, in your case, you were already with someone--and a sub shouldn't be telling you what to do anyway. Obviously that wasn't going to last. My point is a very subtle one that you are missing. I'm not talking about using the wrapping to make people think you are a certain way. I'm talking about using something that might catch the eye of the person you are trying to attract.

Let me give you an exapmle to illustrate what I'm talking about. Let's say that I'm a Yankees fan (not pretending to be one), and I would really like a girlfriend who was also Yankees fan. Well, I could go around a bar room talking to every girl in it about the yankees or if I was lucky I might see a girl wearing a Yankees T-shirt (though doubtful). Now, in turn, I could go out wearing a yankees hat, and that might spark a conversation with a girl who tells me, "Oh, I noticed you're hat, I'm also a Yankees fan". Now, I know she's a Yankees fan even though she was giving no visual indication of it, and better yet, she started the conversation. Now you might say, just go to a Yankees game! Well, the baseball season isn't all year round and I live in New Orleans, not New York--so it's highly unlikely I'll be attending a Yankees game.

I hope that helps, oh and for the record, I'm not really a big baseball fan.

See, now that's not a bad idea, EmeraldSlave. A simple charm, like a necklace--something suggestive and symbolic.

Everyone will know just by looking at you if you are a dominant, Its how we carry ourselves. If looking good is what your intrested, at a party or somthing I wear leather pants, belt, button up shirt and boots, not to say what I am, its beacuse I look good in them.
