BitaTruble -> Invite to the under 30's crowd (9/6/2007 1:08:28 AM)

I posted this in another thread to a specific OP, however, she has said she will be away and that her thread wasn't intended to be serious. That said, I happen to think that the younger generation does have something to teach us older folks so I'm reposting here in the hopes of getting a response from those who feel they aren't listened to because of their age. Of course, everyone is invited to participate on this thread, but I'm really looking for the younger generation here to read what they have to say.

~~~
I think that young people tend to get a bit of disservice and do tend to get discounted for their age. That said, I invite the under 30's to teach. I'll be the student. This is a BDSM discussion board. Let's discuss BDSM. My mind is open to learning. Whatever you have to say, I'll listen and I hope to learn from you. I'll be happy to share as well and we can learn from one another. What is it that you want to say? What is it that you want others to know? You want your opinions respected, so tell me what your opinions are. Perhaps we'll agree, perhaps we'll disagree, but I'm putting out an open invitation to you. I'm ready and willing to read, with an open mind ... if you're ready and willing to type. Any topic is fine by me. Pick your poison and have at it.
What about us folk who are actually 30?....
Or did we forget everything already [:D]
The trick for young people here is to post without getting flamed.
Rover -> RE: Invite to the under 30's crowd (9/6/2007 4:47:00 AM)
Personally, I don't have a clue what anyone's age is unless it's brought to my attention.  Their age isn't germaine to me in this type of forum, as it is the logic and veracity of the "message" (rather than the "messenger") that is considered and discussed.
Personally i think "old" people are just a bit too uptight... most of ya'll anyway.....
(please dear GODS note the sarcasm before you start attacking me some more!)
slavegirljoy -> RE: Invite to the under 30's crowd (9/6/2007 5:21:55 AM)
psynymph,
First, as someone who is older than 30 but, far from "old", i couldn't agree with you more.  It amazes me that there are so many on this site who are very rigid in their views about sex and sexuality.  Although, in all honesty, i don't know if that is limited only to the over 30 crowd, since i don't know someone's age unless it is mentioned.
Second, i am amazed and delighted to see that someone so young actually uses the word, "uptight", which is a word that we used a lot back in the 70's.  It's a good word and i don't hear many people using it anymore.
Oddly, I find myself agreeing with Rover - it's the message.
Are there people I make a point of checking out on the boards? Sure - the day hasn't started for me until I've found the latest by Domiguy and had a good laugh. I'm a fan of a number of posters and search them out as well...
But it's the strength of their passions and writing I'm attracted to, not the youthful perkiness of their tits.
On a serious note, if you find that there's a great deal of age-ism in the local scene you're in, you might want to check out the TNG group near you instead. Granted, there often is a lot of "us v. them," but it's a good way to know people locally who are of approximately the same age and are into WIITWD.
Grlwithboy -> RE: Invite to the under 30's crowd (9/6/2007 5:43:12 AM)
Confession.
I'm almost 34. I bottom rarely and with great finickiness. On average most of the women I've bottomed to and would again are under 30 and it's not because I think youth is hot - there's SO much less rigidity and so much more emphasis on *actual experience and actual skill not just stating who you are endlessly* among a lot of younger players. Seriously. If my ass is on the line I want it stuck and struck by someone who does it twice a week to different people and knows how to speed-negotiate with me, and who I've watched do it earlier in the same night.  Not someone whose slave says he does a great job and I've never seen him do it at all.
I learned to do rope suspension by somenoe who's maybe pushing 30. I've played with 26 year olds whose actual hands-on skill level made me mentally kick myself for not *doing* more. I didn't know anyone in the scene remotely my age when I got into it - I only met age peers about 5 years into playing, which is kind of a shame. I was about 29 before there was anything youth-oriented in my city, and I didn't want to tilt their meetings away from the early 20's end of things, as a lot of people in their late 30's were showing up anyway and not helping the situation.
That's true... and fortunately some of us are literate as well.
Having said that... I'm ancient but you know what they say, right? Older women make beautiful lovers!!!
I can see this is going to get reactionary.
Never trust anyone over 30...
to handle criticism.
GhitaAmati -> RE: Invite to the under 30's crowd (9/6/2007 5:49:31 AM)
I happen to be one of them "under 30" folks.......TNG groups can be great, as long as they remember to not ostracize themselves, our local group has the TNG munch early, and then most of them stay for the later munch that everyones invited to. We kinda fall in the middle, because I fit into the TNG age group quite well, and really enjoy it, but the other half is way over the age limit, so he feels a bit out of place when we go. But then at regular munches and plarties, Im generally the youngest person there by far and most people there automatically assume I dont know anything...even though I just finished teaching two classes at the TNG group.....
Wildfleurs -> RE: Invite to the under 30's crowd (9/6/2007 5:54:36 AM)
FR~
Does anyone find it ironic (and yet so very typical) that despite the very specific OP, most of the responses have been from people over 30?
I'm under 30 for four more months and got involved in BDSM when I was 18 (started sneaking into groups at 19) and I can't think of anything to add except that I wish people would realize that it is rude to tell someone that you have socks older than them.  Even if you think its a really original line, which let me tell you.... its not.
Another post to cause a divide between the old and youngsters.
Elegant -> RE: Invite to the under 30's crowd (9/6/2007 5:59:48 AM)
I am over 30 in birth years but, in many way, still a young adult at heart.
Our local TNG group, Whippersnappers Atlanta, is fabulous! They have monthly combined educational/play gatherings and members can even guest in us Hipcrackers.
As to reading the boards here on CM....I seldom look at the age of a poster unless their comments are so idiotic that I laugh and then perv their profile to see what they have said there.
Knowledge knows no age.
e01n -> RE: Invite to the under 30's crowd (9/6/2007 6:04:42 AM)
In my case, I'm saddened that I just "outgrew" the TNG group I was part of (upper limit of 36, turned 37 on 31 July). It was great networking arena... but I'm now "too old."
I had great experiences and still consider it a great resource for the community and recommend it without hesitation - something I can't say for other organizations.
Aine -> RE: Invite to the under 30's crowd (9/6/2007 6:07:53 AM)
I'll come back to this one when I'm feeling better, and hopefully it won't have turned into a mud-fight.
