Elegant -> Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 3:19:33 PM)

Someone stated in another post:
'there's no way that anyone is gonna get a cut bad enough from a singletail that will caus a trip to the emergency room unless they hit themselves in the eye because they don't know about follow through when throwing it.'

I think this is a bit of an untrue absolute. I have seen (in person, not on tv) the backside of a knee torn open with a snake whip. Historically, whips have been used in inhumane ways that left cuts that 'should' have been treated by medical personnel.

Other real lifes stories of whip accidents anyone?

PS....I love the feel of a singletail.....the bee sting carresses...the burning lash strikes...the cutting strokes...the hug as the snake wraps around my waist or neck (yes, my neck). But I play knowing the risks and knowing the skill level of the one who is throwing the whip.

MadRabbit -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 3:29:38 PM)

Once at a local munch, I saw a photo of a guy holding a beer with a huge roughly 12 inch gash down the back of his shoulder from a single tail (Correction : I dont actually know the design of the whip outside of the fact that it was a whip)..

Phin -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 3:32:31 PM)

I personally havent seen any accidents of this nature, but I am sure that an accident with a single tail can be devistating

the crack of a whip is a miniature sonic boom when the tip crosses the sound barrier. anything moving that fast can do some real damage

LaMistressa -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 3:37:39 PM)

I was accidentally popped in the calf by a singletail (an ex was practicing and had bad aim), and it hit a vein near the surface of my leg. My entire leg swelled up for over a week; I thought I was going to have to see a doctor over it. I am always very careful with my whips, as you can do a lot of damage with them.

mistoferin -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 3:38:14 PM)

Thank you for this post Elegant. I made mention of this on the other thread and I believe that it was implied that I was being less than honest.

I have personally seen (also not on tv) two occasions where whips caused injury that was significant. One was purely an accident where a girl involved in a whip scene was struck on the upper inner thigh and it opened her skin enough that it required the couple to seek treatment and a few stitches for it (7 of them if my memory serves me well). The other was a grueling scene at a private party between a couple of leather guys where the Top turned the bottom's back into hamburger, not just welts and abrasions but long splits. The injuries were such that I certainly would have sought treatment for them, however, I do not know if they did or not. The scene was so intense that I chose not to stay til the end. There was a third scene that I saw that I will mention because the Top was very experienced with whips and well respected. He frequently does demos. In this particular scene he missed and caught his girl just below her ear. I don't think it was serious enough to require stitching, but it did split her skin enough that they ultimately stopped the scene because the wound bled quite badly.

LaTigresse -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 3:47:34 PM)

Me being me, and not all that experienced in anything BDSM related.....cannot say I have seen terrible damage to humans but I have seen hideous damage that was done to a horse by a person that barely lived through it.

That being said, even though I adore, and am completely fascinated by, whips, I will NEVER use one on a human being until I feel completely confident in my own ability. I know my limitations, regardless of my "wish-I-could'"s. I may never get the opportunity, I am okay with that. Hell, just taking them out into the woods, making alot of cool noise, and trying to avoid hitting myself, is okay too.

mmmmmm just a bit?!!!

I glad you are taking a more polite manner to address this post...... but.. I am not so polite....

The comment shows a complete lack of understanding of the effect that a singletail is capable of.  By accident or with intent... a single tail is very capable of doing tremendous damage to the flesh of a person.

The irresponsibility of such a comment could lead other fools to think they can just pickup and use a single tail... with no worry that they could cause any significant damage to the person they use it on....

god... people need to becareful who they listen too...

daddysliloneds -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 4:45:34 PM)

some people love eating, breathing and talking out their asses don't they[:@]

camille65 -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 4:49:48 PM)

The unfortunate bit is that it came up in a discussion about the value of having experience vs being able to just plug-and-play. Although plugs don't usually break the skin [:D]  when you play.

mistoferin -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 4:56:40 PM)

Yes, that was unfortunate and maybe I should have just let it slide as it was in a thread geared to the under 30 crowd but honestly, I was quite shocked by it. Couple that with the comment that a whip can be damaged more than a bottom and that people can heal, toys can't....implying that people are less of a concern than expensive toys....well, I guess I just felt I had to comment.

PlayfulOne -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 4:59:15 PM)

It wasn't a whip but a cane.  I have a friend who had to go to the emergency room after the scene because she had been flayed open so badly.  The scar tissue and the damage to her skin is permanent.  A lot of the things we do and use can cause serious damage, know what your doing before you use anything on someone else.  I am a firm believer that you shouldn't touch anyone else with a whip, cane, flogger, etc..., until you have a firm grasp over how to use it and can control it.

camille65 -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 5:04:21 PM)

Oh I don't think you should have let it slide. In a learning forum when anyone sees something they know is erroneous I feel it should be mentioned.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 5:11:35 PM)

The bite of a single tail can be quiet execrating as well as great pleasure depending on who's hand it is in,When ask by someone for advice on using the cane, st or whip I advise then to be on the receiving end at least once.AS a DM at a leather fest I saw a nasty back that need medical attention just because the guy had his slave tie and wanted to put on a show.Needless to say when I saw the damage I put a quick end to the scean...I practiced on a heavy bag until I was proficient enough for a sub to trust me...Lots of practice using targets not humans,getting your stroke down pat.......bounty

The more I think about the comment.. the more disgusted I am with the complete stupidity of the comment.

and even thou I said I was done with the under 30 thread... I had to go and see who would make such a stupid comment...

anyways... I am glad that you addressed the comments in the thread... I am glad that Elegant started this thread.....  I am glad that anyone sees such out right stupidity calls them on it....

mistoferin -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 5:32:41 PM)

Thanks camille. I was afraid I  might be seen as the old fart rambling on about gloom and doom, little did I know that it would be implied that I had no basis in reality to question such a thing.

camille65 -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 5:42:37 PM)

Ha! It had the opposite effect as far as I'm concerned.

Concern over wounds from whiping and other BDSM play is quite grounded in reality. It's nonconcern that seems less grounded to me.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Whips and 'Accidents' (9/6/2007 5:59:58 PM)

I myself have not- but that's probably because I haven't really practiced at it.  Give me enough time and I'm sure I'll do something horrendously ridiculous, hopefully to myself.

I do know a friend who bears a scar on her shoulder because on one of her first lessons she wasn't thinking of whipback and got herself.

It's all about going slow.  My first time with sounds was with a very delightful local pain bottom.  I was fully up front and frankly stunned when he wanted me to try sounds on him when I had ZERO experience.  He was an excellent bottom who topped me very well that night.  Showed me the basics, went through cleaning, I got my own personal sounds lesson and he got to have a great scenet.

I once played with a Dom in Nashville who had see horrible "accidents."  He was being trained by one of the dungeon masters in the technique.

Responding to KoM...that's plain barbaric stupidity.. not a lack of common sense.

I too would love to feel the end of a single tail one day....sinjing ....  just enough to make the sensation magically delicious [sm=tongue.gif] from someone who took the time to learn well !

Maybe one day Ms LaT...
maybe one day with a whoooooraaaa !! you'll be gleaming with pride.

Sir's girl (who's Sir I am not sure even dreams of a single tail in one hand and my sweet checks at the other ~~ I'll call and ask... mmmm.....thinks better of it...fuuuuutball has begun !)

Even scarier is that the person who made the comment states that she is a presenter at workshops....we can only hope the presentations are not on the use of a whip.
