I know the training that officers are given when they get it for the use of the Taser, and as part of it, each one of them get hit with it to feel what happens when they pull the trigger. Campus police officers are sworn law enforcement officers, as mentioned, campuses also employ security personnel for lesser, non-law enforcement duties. That said, after having seen the video, I think the 6 officers that had control of the kid...and yes, since they were actually getting him out of there, they HAD control of him, used poor judgement in tasing the kid. Yes, he was obnoxious, yes he was an ass, yes, he thought he was going to make some sort of point, but they had him off his feet, and they were carrying him out...why they stopped and decided to taze him is anybody's guess. Personally, having worked as a cop long before the tasers were out there, tasers are more of a liability to officers/departments than nightsticks and flashlights ever were. Instead of learning the proper way to restrain and subdue someone without lethal force, everyone seems to want to resort to tasers. One officer with the proper knowledge of a wrist take down could have goose-stepped the little jackass out of there with very little problem.....I once moved a 250 lb drunk from the bar fight out to the truck while my partner was still inside in the fight. I'm 5'4, he had to be about 6'4, and didn't have a bit of trouble. (And no, my partner wasn't alone in the fight.....there just happened to be about 15 other MP's inside with him!)
