PETA`s tactics, of secretly filming these unhealthy facilities, have made for cleaner, more humane farms and production facilities, over all.The same with zoos(the little private zoos are the worst)and rodeos.

If filming was all they did, that wouldn't be nearly so much of a problem.  Except they commit vandalism, provoke or release animals, cut fences and put park guests and employees at risk.  Most zoos happily show their facilities including their off exhibit areas to anyone with a legitimate interest in animal care.  These guys have a whole different agenda than learning about animal care.

The lie here,is from PETAKILLSANIMALS.com.

No one has proven or shown evidence, that the charge is true. That is,the charge made by PETAKILLSANIMALS.com.

Accusation ,doesn`t equal guilt.

That website makes me think just the opposite.

We get that you don't believe the website. Believe me, we get it. You don't need to bring it up anymore.

Would you care to move onto the other topics?

The dog racing industry?

Who keeps PETA honest? Who keeps PETA in line?

Come on now, if hurricane Katrina taught us nothing is it that groups that claim to be good don't always have the best interests at heart. This is a group that protests shelters for doing exactly what they do. This is a fact. This is not from that website we know you hate. This is from the fact that PETA protests kill shelters with better adoption rates, paints the workers as animal killers but says themselves that "sometimes the kindest thing we can do for animals is to humanely put them down".

PETA is simply not needed because the SPCA and other groups do the same things and, in fact, more effectively because they don't go after everything including fishing. Hence, people take the other groups more seriously.

What about it? The many groups that aren't PETA that rescue grayhounds and place them in loving homes?

SimplyMichael -> RE: PETA - The REAL killers (9/26/2007 10:18:22 AM)

Simple question,

Which if any animals do you believe feel pain and which if any animals do you believe are sentient.  If you believe only humans are sentient, define sentience.

Estring -> RE: PETA - The REAL killers (9/26/2007 10:19:23 AM)

How can a group who has leaders such as Ingrid Newkirk who equate the barbequeing of chickens with the holocaust of Jews be taken seriously in anything they say?

Mac55112 -> RE: PETA - The REAL killers (9/26/2007 10:42:45 AM)

PETA. They are a bunch of lunatics. more interested in press and news events than facts, truth or repercussions.

They went to a island off england where there were mink farms. They let the minks go. The minks have decimated the local sea bird rookeries and PETA says it is the farmers going out at night to kill the sea birds...despite video of minks raiding nest after nest...

Here they protest Deer hunting, despite an overpopulation of Deer, they instead want the deer shot with birth control implants.

They protest the hunting of wolves. yet scream when wolves reintroduced them selves to several lake superior islands when the lake froze up, because the wolves were eating deer....

They want a feeding program for peregrine falcon, because the peregrines are eating pigeons.

PETA is a bunch of flakes, who can not understand that eating other animals is the way of the wild.

Us,everyone,the law.Just like every group,mild to wild.

"adoption rates", again,I don`t believe your stats.
What independent outfit, like a legitimate news organization, has looked this so called adoption rate.you speak of?

According to the stats you provided,Peta has killed only 1500 dogs and cats, every year.over the entire country, for the last nine years. The part about them having a lower adoption rate,is the trash point, here,That hasn`t been proven, and is really the point ,here.
Coming from a PETA-hater,certainly makes it less believable.

paints the workers as animal killers but says themselves that "sometimes the kindest thing we can do for animals is to humanely put them down".

Isn`t that what you`ve done?Painted PETA,unfairly ,as animal killers?

"sometimes the kindest thing we can do for animals is to humanely put them down".

Well ,sugar, that`s just true.Sorry for the wake up call.

We`ve gone into all the ins and outs of unwanted pets. What PETA is stressing there,is the humane part.Ie,the killings of un-wanted pets, with something less the standard, humane way, which is an over-dose of anesthesia, and what PETA`s beef is all about.Anything less than the OD of anesthesia, is cruel, period.

PETA is simply not needed because the SPCA and other groups do the same things and, in fact, more effectively because they don't go after everything including fishing. Hence, people take the other groups more seriously.

Why don`t you worry about your own self?

PETA will do just fine without you,and anyone else that doesn`t care for them. This is Amercia(for now, anyway).

Whether PETA does better or worse than other groups at dog rescue, is debatable.

They don`t hide their agenda,and don`t need to.If you have a beef w/ them about something,say so.

If you think you can do better than PETA,go right ahead.

Don`t begrudge them for rescuing dogs, because of their other positions. The dogs need all the help they can get.PETA most certainly adds to the effort.

It would be a shame,if more dogs had to suffer, because the "Beef Board" http://www.beefboard.org/
was able to dupe folks into believing  that PETA was a bad faith outfit.

Nope. I've painted them as liars and hypocrites, not animals killers. However, Naja has kindly come forth about them sneaking into zoos and has stated that she has her own proof. Having met the woman for a wonderful lunch and finding her to be no-nonsense, if she says she has them on tape - I believe her. Natually, you don't have to.

And I never said otherwise!

What I said was: It is immoral to protest the homes of shelter workers for doing something PETA themselves does.

Well duh. But PETA isn't protesting shelters because of that. PETA is protesting shelters because they are kill shelters.

You need to pay more attention to what comes out of PETA's mouth. Last time I checked it was "no animals for entertainment, to eat, for medical research or any other exploitative purpose".

That means no zoos, no pets, no insulin for those who can not live without it, no small farms (gotta have horses and mules), no horseback rides for disabled children, no leather, no meat, no pig hearts or horse arteys for those would die otherwise, no cancer or AIDs treatments, etc.

The SPCA would be able to put that money and support to much better use. Just because a group does a smidge of good does not redeem it. But hey, since PETA is all about Holocaust references, Hilter did techinically free up a lot of jobs for Aryan workers. Does that make him a great guy?

I know that, lol. There`s no news there, baby.PETA is extreme. We`ve all anounced it to the world.I haven`t been closed minde about that.We can move past that point, now.

They`re not going to get their way on most things,.So what?
I don`t want the rights of groups to be infringed upon, even the cock-suckers at the Center for Consumer Freedom.

http://www.organicconsumers.org/organic/anti_organic_consumer_group.cfm

and

http://www.consumerdeception.com/

I`ve seen that group opperate for years, and their tactics. You`re just hearing about them, and want to be "open minded" ,lol, about them.

What they do, is not a conspirisy theory. They crush bones, those guys. And have no problem using phony ads,and playing on people`s emotions,in order to further their solely private, selfish agenda.

Seeing through those phonies doesn`t mean you`re closed minded. And they wouldn`t care, if less dogs were rescued.

But hey, since PETA is all about Holocaust references, Hilter did techinically free up a lot of jobs for Aryan workers. Does that make him a great guy?

Now that`s going  over the top. There have been many, many holocausts,in history. Not just the one the nazis created.
Using that word,though extreme,is not a nazi reference.Grow up.

Your hitler reference, is a bit more than snarky, though.

Are you a republican,by chance?

Amazingly, people did think the same things about Hilter. And unless you ask my owner's permission, I respectfully request that you respect the dynamic of my relationship and not refer to me by pet names. Otherwise I will have to stop speaking with you. I realize this is the first time it has been brought up.

I am not, in any way, trying to interfer with PETA's rights. I completely and 100% support their right to run their ads, even the ones I provide links to below. But that does not mean that I will support their group or ignore their bullshit.

You are aware of the PETA ads using the Holocaust right? The ones that PETA put out.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/Northeast/02/28/peta.holocaust/

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/4/48/Holocaust_plate.png&imgrefurl=http://www.answers.com/topic/animal-rights-and-the-holocaust&h=150&w=150&sz=24&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=95hXVGqVjAZFXM:&tbnh=96&tbnw=96&prev=/images%3Fq%3D%2522Holocaust%2Bon%2Ba%2Bplate%2522%2B%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26ie%3DUTF-8

The ads that PETA put out putting pictures of concentration camps victims, the Jewish ones from the German Holocaust, alongside pigs. That is a Nazi reference and there is no getting around it.

That makes about 5 links I've posted for you. Why can't you accept that you may have been wrong about PETA? It happens and it's okay if you can walk away having learned something.

Aquatic - ironically if it wasn't for PETA we wouldn't have met.  I was driving up to give testimony about their shenanigans to a committee in your area that day.    450 mile round trip and worth every goddamn mile to get some payback for what they did and for what they tried to do.

It was lovely by the way to meet you and Valyraen.  Much more fun than the committee meeting, that's for sure.

She captures cats and dogs that are stray, has them neutered or spayed by the ASPCA, takes them back to
where she caught them, and sets them loose.

Alumbrado -> RE: PETA - The REAL killers (9/26/2007 9:39:00 PM)

PETA, like Soylent Green, is people.

Some of the people are working to diminish a problem, some are well intentioned do-gooders, some are outright nuts, and some are power hungy demagogues.... just like any other organization.

If PETA can get people out of their comfort zone on some issues, good for them.  When they start believing their own press releases and become zealous, they shouldn't expect to be immune from repercussions.

And I do have to wonder how come those cans of red paint always seem to get thrown on little old ladies, and not on groups of bikers wearing leather...[;)]

sundownhawk -> RE: PETA - The REAL killers (9/26/2007 10:10:46 PM)

From the PETA website: "PETA makes a point of offering something for all tastes-from the most conservative to the most radical and from the most outrageous to the most refined-and this approach has proved to be very successful."
Note the word radical, anything radical is going to attract nuts and goofballs. Though many of their goals and tactics are honorable, many are not. They are against catch and release fishing? Do they only then support catch and eat fishing? They hate zoos, and yet if it were not for zoos there are some species that might well be extinct right now.
Some of that old info posted about them destroying an inordinate number of animals is true.
PETA: "We at PETA very much love the animal companions who share our homes, but we believe that it would have been in the animals' best interests if the institution of "pet keeping"—i.e., breeding animals to be kept and regarded as "pets"—never existed."
Anyhow, they mostly all seem to be nuts, but I think we may be safer letting them be and trying to manage them through the legal system. Otherwise they would most likely turn into a bunch of terrorist like splinter cells which are a real pain to eradicate.

Najakcharmer -> RE: PETA - The REAL killers (9/26/2007 10:40:16 PM)

These folks seem like they might be offering some positive efforts at making a difference for dogs, which I'd much rather support than  criminal terrorist acts. http://www.dogsindanger.com/

Which is certainly better than not neutering or spaying them, but every cat released in an area with some kinds of native or migratory wildlife is capable of doing really devastating damage to that population.  Cats are incredibly efficient "super-predators", and species that didn't evolve alongside them have little or no defense.
