Status: offline 		Columbia University is going to be welcoming the Iranian President early next week and the university has given every excuse from free speech to "respecting opposing views to our country's policies."

But keep in mind this is the same university that stormed the stage when the "Minutemen" went there to speak. This university refuses to allow military recruiters on campus and also refuses to allow an ROTC. Walk around that campus with a military uniform and you will probably incite a riot.

I think universities like Columbia are a complete radical left-wing joke. Columbia university is a perfect example of what is wrong with the academia in this nation. They preach anti-Americanism. They give a platform to a dictator that suppresses democracy, freedom of speech, religion, and of the press and they call this "respecting opposing viewpoints." But they refuse to allow the other viewpoint to be made. Do you think they would allow the Israeli prime minister to speak and not storm the stage? Would they allow Bush to speak? Hell no.

C.U. is supremely Gay-'Friendly'  [as well as being Judaism Incorporated]

Status: offline 		While I agree that a lot of secondary schools seem to positivly seeth with liberalism I also think that it is a little rash to say "thats what is wrong with academia"

I myself am turned off from extremes from either left or right but consider myself a mix of libertarian and conservative. if you look back in time at the colleges of our nation you will see that they have always been a hotbed for protest and radical thought.

I disagree that they are teaching anti-americanism, as so many college students would tell you it is anti-bushism. never misunderestimate a head strong twenty somthing :)

As an aside, What's the deal with these "Fake Minutemen", to corrupt the noble ideas of the TRUE Historical Minutemen? Since the TRUE Historical Minutemen were involved in a violent insurrection against the then-legitimate government, I'm not seeing the parallels between them and these vigilante wannabes...

This is one of the reason I do not like the UN being in the US. Put it in Geneva or somewhere else that is considered neutral ground.

Some would suggest since the US Government is now depriving Persons of the 5th Amendment Rights, and has tortured people for 1300 days and more before pretending to THEN give them due process, that the US Government has surrendered it's Moral Right to rule.

That means, being in violation of the Constitution and Amendments, the Declaration of Independence should be invoked, the Federal Government dissolved, and the States should decide how best to re-federalize should it be desirable.

And of course, the Human Rights Violations of the Israeli Government is enough to call for it's dissolution.

So, what's your problem?

Not even fucking close. This Jim Gilchrist seems to have found himself a nice little marketing scheme, and more profit to him, but to equate him with the REAL Minutemen is ludicrous.

What a POS.
As for Columbia what do you expect?
The kids who go to that "school" are mostly upper middle class and never had to struggle for anything.
They've never done anything in their lives.We're talking 18-21 year olds here. Why would the Press even think that the public would care about what those kids "think."
And that goes for a lot of the faculty there too.
Must have been a slow newsday.
Editor; "Bobby, go down to the corner pub and pick up a cameraman and sound technician before they get too drunk and get me some kind of story, we're dyin' here!"
Reporter; "a campus protest maybe?"
Editor; "Fine, anything!" "Start a fire I don't care! We need "NEWS!"

I guess the current administration of Columbia University thinks that open discussion and tolerance toward such thinking will in time change it. 
They are mistaken.

Just looked at their site. A couple of observations. Anyone who claims to uphold the law in the absence of government, you can bet you life they are rednecks. This site has all the hallmarks of a bunch of rednecks. Any organisation that claims to be multi-ethnic is usually trying to get cover for their racists views. Anyone who takes a look at this site will see that the minutemen are rabid racists.

It's pointless going on, these guys are rightwing apes that posture as freedom loving citizens. You can see through the veneer they are potential thugs and probably cowards when it comes to the crunch.

Look, I'm not saying they're good or bad. I'm saying they're not WORTHY of the name Minuteman.

( It's a great scam.... Looking over their POSTED financials it looks like Jim spent 34,000 dollars last year on travel & hotels, and about 100 Grand on various friends labeled as "Consultants". It's a GOOD scheme to stay in nice hotels, and travel first class, I'll give them that... It's just that DENIGRATING and INSULTING the real heroes isn't warranted...

That, and the phony indignation is wearing thin.

My point was that if this university is OK with someone as radical as Ahmadinenjad, and I remind you again that this university allowed a former Nazi to speak to its students... then why is it that they don't accept the other radical side?

It shows that this university is a farce. They preach tolerance of any form of radicalism that is anti-American. It doesn't matter if that is communism, Nazism, or Islamic fundamentalism. If it is anti-America, it is acceptable at Columbia University. Pro-American speakers or speakers in favor of the US military or US government are not allowed.

Now if you are looking to find a bastion of free thought you might want to spend some time looking up Bob Jones University....I believe it was the first university that Bush gave a speach after becomingPresident.  No inter racial dating, queers, it was a good place for the leader of the free-world to choose to visit.

Many universities have a political agenda..Why you cannot grasp this notion is beyond me.
