*shakes Jinger like a magic * ball*

Jinger,

Am I going to have fun this weekend?

Maybe! But it won't matter too much because it'll likely be better than a weekday anyhow!

subtee -> RE: Ask me anything (10/19/2007 7:50:46 PM)

Sweetheart? Where did you go? Did my sarcasm scare you?

Soo ooo sorry...

Jinger -> RE: Ask me anything (10/19/2007 8:14:06 PM)

I didn't go anywhere at all. I've been in my room all day, bored out of my mind as I shed my old scales.
Huff!

People haven't been asking me questions. I may have to start this thread over, mayhaps.

subtee -> RE: Ask me anything (10/19/2007 8:17:58 PM)

Okay, hun. I'll give you another question. How come I am afflicted with teenagers? All those years ago I said I wanted a BABY. Not even a sefl-respecting masochist would request a teenager. Where did I go wrong? Is my karma that bad?

Thank you,
Tee

It sounds to me like you don't remember being a teenager! Did you really respect your parents as much as you did when you were 6 or 10 when you were a teenager? Though I don't know everything about your relationship with your kids, you probably didn't do anything wrong. When us kids get to be teenagers we grow more independant and parents cramp on our style.

"Always obey your parents, when they are present. Most parents think they know more than you do; and you can generally make more by humoring that superstition than you can by acting on your own better judgement."
-Mark Twain

I think you may find my previous advice with another mother useful...but otherwise try to let them be themselves and support who they are. At this point in their lives it can be better to lean towards being a friend than a mother, though you should never completely leave that role.

Help them out when they need it, otherwise let them live. Don't monitor everything they do, but at the same time be observant. Let them know you're there for them, but at the same time don't smother. Try to stay calm, patient and above all loving.

This is the time where you can either become the crazy mother that they want to escape, or the cool mother that they can rely on to be a reasonable person. They're your children, and they are immature...but they are still people, and likely more mature than you think.

So what should I be when I grow up?

As long as you give back to your community, then it doesn't matter too much.

i can't believe this will be my first post on these forums but here goes...

Why when my kitty is on my lap purring nicely does my 76lb dog decide theres plenty of room up here for him too? And why when i let him in does he want out again 5 minutes later only to want back in again?                                                     These are the questions that me up at night.

Think of your pets as two boys fighting for your attention. Your cat represents the pretty, sensitive, affectionate type. Your dog represents the more silent but strong masculine type. When the cat sits on your lap, your dog becomes jealous. So he joins you. But the whole "lap sitting lovey dovy mushy stuff" really isn't his scene. So he has to get off pretty soon because it embarrasses him.

This sort of thing happens in real life, with real people...all of the time.

I'm usually the cat...personally...

What...

...is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Raechard -> RE: Ask me anything (10/21/2007 7:48:58 AM)

I’ll field this question: the same as the aeroplane it is splattered across the front of.[:D]

What do you mean? An African, or European swallow?

I will refer you to this website: http://www.style.org/unladenswallow/

Ugg!

Yuck.

Someone ask me something not related to physics, math, or trains.

wait..but now you are putting limitations on our relationship with you? So sad......

Forgive me, I was in a pissy attitude. Though I still most likely won't be able to answer those questions, and people answering other people's questions for me makes me look a touch off.
Which I can be, but on the whole...aint.

This question is a bit misleading in some respect because velocity and speed are more or less the same. The difference as I recall is that with speed you travel a distance but with velocity your overall distance travelled may be zero. e.g.. in the case of something travelling in a circular trajectory.

So the addition of the term velocity after airspeed isn’t required in this instance and makes the question appear more complicated than it is.

What is the atomic weight of mercury?

Bearing in mind that i'm half way through my second year of this stuff:

v = I x R, therefore: 4.7x10^-3 (assuming you meant milliohms, not megohms) x .250A = 1.175mV.. so not a whole lot. <edit> Oh, wait. you said microamps. That'd make it 1.175 microvolts. my bad.

100mW of power being consumed at a constant rate will result in a total of 2.4 W/h in a 24 hour period, i can't remember what the conversion rate between watthours and joules is, and i'm not going to revert to cheating by checkin on wiki.

I have no idea. Never heard of it.

This one i've covered, but forgotten, and it's not something i do every day. If memory serves, the impedance at resonance is very low for non-resistive components, thus the impedance overall would be very close to 80 ohms.

These almost sound more electronicy than electrickery, but, i guess, it's all very similar... I'm just used to dealing with 240/415 volt and hundreds of watts/amps.

I know, I'm late to the thread...

Thevenin's Theorem (roughly) states that a circuit consisting of voltage sources and resistors may be represented by an ideal voltage source and a (series) ideal resistor.  Yep, I could solve them but had to get the definition from Wiki.

You were right, the impedance is 80 ohms at resonance.
