ORIGINAL: RosesHaveThorns I doubt that having a female president is going to help our case with people who already want to kill us. What, are they going to want to kill us...twice or something? And what about people inside our country who aspire to become president? Sorry, we can't have you be president, it might piss off people that are trying to kill us. If that were the case, we should probably not go into other countries and attempt to kill the people who want to kill us, it tends to piss off the people who want to kill us for some strange reason. True, but that only addresses my secondary reasons. My first reason still stands - It would be Hillary quote:
However, I think that tradtional values are great for you. In my opinion, the U.S. is far too mired in ye olde time values, and needs to move forward. Also, I don't see why how you want to run your household should affect me, or anyone else. Our values shouldn't affect yours, but if my guy was unhappy that I chose a career over staying home, we're simply not compatible. Agreed 100%. My world and my life are my own to live - yours are your own. I very rarely make a point of interfering with anyone else's choices (ie I think abortion is an abomination but if the decision to outlaw it rested on my shoulders I would keep it legal simply because our world is so messed up that if a mother is going to kill her fetus she shouldn't have it anyway. I also think homosexuality is a mutation of nature but would let them get married legally if I had to choose.) quote:
As for the gender role thing...Have you looked at a culture where the gender roles are switched? If not, you are merely assuming that people work better in the gender roles they have been assigned without looking at the reverse. Also remember that there are not only two gender roles. Other cultures have different opinions on what it means to be a man or a woman, and several do acknowledge transgender idenities. I believe there are 2 genders, and consider transgender identities to be a sort of mutation of the personality, similar to how Down's Syndrome is a mutation of the genes. I'm not sure what causes homosexuality or transgendered identities, but the general consensus says the desires are inborn. And granted some mutations do have advantages. I still see it as a mutation. And to answer your question I haven't seen any cultures where they are reversed but would be very interested in any links or info you have because anthropology has always piqued my interest.
