Wolf: Feb 19 – Mar 20
Deeply emotional, and wholly passionate, the Wolf is the lover of the zodiac in both the physical and philosophical sense of the word. The Wolf understands that all we need is love, and is fully capable of providing it. Juxtaposed with his/her fierce independence – this Native American animal symbol is a bit of a contradiction in terms. Needing his/her freedom, yet still being quite gentle and compassionate – we get the picture of the "lone wolf" with this sign. In a nurturing environment the Wolf is intensely passionate, generous, deeply affectionate, and gentle. Left to his/her own devices the Wolf can become impractical, recalcitrant, obsessive, and vindictive.

Status: offline 		i don't think it is any more racist than the Chinese zodiac, nor more or less relevant than the European one. i'm not sure where racism comes in.

Mine was kind of off. i'm a falcon apparently and it really didn't fit me, except the part about being a team player. i'm more of a wolf, should have been born earlier in the month, apparently.

Status: offline 		I don't know much about Chinese culture and the Chinese zodiac, but I do know quite a bit about Native American culture and this is the first time I've ever seen anything about an "animal zodiac."  The site makes no reference at all to exactly which of the over 500 distinct and separate Indian Nations that existed this supposed zodiac came from.

This is the first time I've posted anything here.  I did so because racism against American Indians is so accepted that it goes under most people's radar.  This link is just one example of many.

Ok lets say, for the sake of argument, that its fake or incorrect, I don't see anywhere in it that it denigrates American Indians, or reverse racism, I don't see anywhere where it says American Indians are better.
At  worst its a fun bit of hocus pocus, at best its a true part of American Indian mythology.
Neither way is it racist.

Ignorance isn't racism its simply lack of knowledge

Status: offline 		I was a little taken aback by it as well. I wouldn't say it's racist ... but I also don't see anything about the people who came up with it or who profits from it. (Are they NA? If so, then I have less of a problem with it.) It's just a bit of fun, no real harm, but on the border of poor taste.

Are you Native American or of that descent, if so explain. If not perhaps those on this site who are Native American or descent might like to offer their thoughts on the matter.(I know of two here)

Oh, by the way, this is posted in 'Polls and other random stupidity' for the simple reason it is a bit of fun for any that choose to engage.

Does it actually mean anything?

Status: offline 		I think the zodiac portions of the site are just to attract Web Browsers....but if you read each category a bit more the site does offer information on spirituality and different cultures.....I guess everyone has their own definition of racism this site definately doesnt meet any of the criteria for mine... **yes I am part NA**

I would like to clarify something if I may. This site is a watered down version of the Native American Totem Animals. It is no more racist then the book written by Ted Williams titled " Animal Speak" which is a more in depth look into amimal totems and how to find yours and to connect with the Great Spirit.
It doesn't matter which clan or tribe a Native American or Native Canadian is from, animal totems or spirit guides apply to all whether Iroquois, Sioux, Apache, Chippewa, White, Asain  etc. Each clan has their own variations of the animal symbolism yet the basic premises is still the same. On this I know what I am speaking, as I have been following the Native path for many years and count many Shamans and Pipe bearers as friends and as teachers.

Status: offline 		My animal, per this site, came up as Beaver. Interesting, since a totem I had done a few years back didn't even have that animal as part of the collection. I guess it's, as so often stated, "for entertainment purposes only."

Status: offline 		I have a "yuck" factor also. Yes, distasteful also. I don't believe the OP meant it to be so, in fact, on the contrary, he seems to be showing respect as he characterizes it as "consideration." I respect that consideration and your opinion!

However, this is a for-profit site and gives no citations nor authority to be making the claims it is making. Native American spirituality is not a game or a personality quiz. Those who have taken on animal totems typically do so after years of introspection and in consultation with a shaman or medicine man/woman or tribal leader(s). (Bear would you agree?) I am 1/4 Cherokee, but I mention it only because you asked. Truly, like Bear, I comment because it has interested me and I have learned what I can.

Status: offline 		You are right subtee, a shaman could reveal to a person who their animal totem is, though one does have to make a gift of sema to the shaman. A person could seek it out themselves which involves deep meditation and some will do a vision quest or will even fast. Or simply put tobacco down and ask the Creator.
    According to the site mine is Owl: Nov 23 – Dec 21
Changeable and mutable as the wind, the Owl is a tough one to pin down. Warm, natural, with an easy-going nature, the Owl is friend to the world. The bearer of this Native American animal symbol is notorious for engaging in life at full speed, and whole-hearted loves adventure. This can be to his/her detriment as the Owl can be reckless, careless, and thoughtless. Owls make great artists, teachers, and conservationists. However, due to his/her adaptability and versatility – the Owl would likely excel in any occupation. In a supportive, nurturing environment the Owl is sensitive, enthusiastic, and an attentive listener. Left to his/her own devices, the Owl can be excessive, overindulgent, bitter, and belligerent.

Much of this does ring fairly accurate though my actual animal guide is the Wolf and sometimes the Bear
