Please keep in mind that these are not purporting to be your animal guides, they are intrepretations of the zodiac. I don't recall my NA grandmother ever speaking to this issue of the zodiac but it's just not the same thing at all. Your animal guide is not found by checking your date of birth.

Status: offline 		True, they are found through one's affinity for a specific animal. Be it the charateristics which an animal has that appeals to you on a deep level. Each animal comes into a person's life to teach some lesson the Creator feels we need to learn, whether it's fox, turtle, eagle or bear.

If you want something done – give it to the Goose. Persevering, dogged, and ambitious to a fault, the Goose sets goals for accomplishment, and always obtains them. The goose is determined to succeed at all cost – not for the approval of other – but those with this Native American animal symbol competes with his/her own internal foe. Driven is the watchword for the Goose's dominating personality trait – which makes them excellent in business and competitive sports. The Falcon can be a little on the conceited side – but he/she is usually right in his/her opinions – so a little arrogance is understood. In a supportive environmental the Falcon "soars" in his/her ability to maintain passion and fire in relationships, and always remaining compassionate. Left to his/her own devices, the Falcon can be vain, rude, intolerant, impatient, and over-sensitive.

Status: offline 		  Well, mine is Goose, and some parts fit, and some don't, but that seems to be the norm.  I have sen this in a book somewhere before as well, but I can not remember which book. Also, I know Goose is not one of my guides, but I would never discuss who my guides are in this setting. It is just too personal.

I'm a goose on this one, and a snow goose elsewhere, but a goose. And yes, it's amazingly accurate.

In chinese astrology I'm a rat, also very accurate.

My sun sign of capricorn isn't terribly accurate at all.

My totem animal is a wolf.

Woodpeckers are usually the most nuturing of all the Native American animal symbols. The consummate listener, totally empathic and understanding, the Woodpecker is the one to have on your side when you need support. Of course, they make wonderful parents, and equally wonderful friends and partners. Another proverbial feather in the Woodpeckers cap is the tendency to be naturally frugal, resourceful, and organized. In a nurturing environment the Woodpecker is of course caring, devoted, and very romantic. Left to his/her own devices the Woodpecker can be possessive, angry, jealous, and spiteful.

Status: offline 		I don't think it's racist.  It's just silly is all.  So it really doesn't mean anything.  A lot more goes into totems and spirit guides than just picking something off the internet.  Totems or Dodems are actually passed down by family lineage.  My grandad was Bear clan and my granny Eagle clan.  And it all depends if the tribe follows patrilineal or matrilineal descent.  Mine being Anishinabe..which is the same thing as Ojibwe and Chippewa..all the same tribe...its patrilineal.

Anyway...I think we all know that most people really don't have spirit guides.  Especially if they were not raised to believe in them.  If you were, it's a different story.  Pretty simple really.

Status: offline 		No kidding...American Indians, Native Americans...or your specific tribe.  I go by Chippewa or Ojibwe or Anishinabe.  It's personal preference actually.  And no idea why I prefer Native American over American Indian.  But that is just how it is.  I think we all know what the OP meant though.

Status: offline 		Well sorry.  Just have to live with it I guess.  Wasn't meant as an insult.  Just is a belief a lot of Natives share.  We have to live with others opinions too.  Can't speak for everyone that is Native of course.  But it just makes sense to me.

If you're saying they don't really have them, and don't see that as an insult to those of us with a belief, I guess you'll have to live with being a rude, insensitive cow then.

I don't believe in God, but I wouldn't say that most people know he doesn't really exist. Because I respect others right to have their beliefs respected.
