I see this term used repeatedly here, in a derogatory way.  I'm curious what it means to people exactly and why it's negative? Just saw it in someone's profile accusing everyone here of being fakes and wanna-be's."

Well, you are not really a secret agent are you?  Rather, you want to be.

LOL......

well i have actually run into that with my first master.in the long run i discovered it was more of just a covienient situation for him to have 2 women in his bed at all times and that was it.no real involvement in the real.

thankfully now that i am with my "true" Lord and Owner i have found a very real situation.i say that becasue i am reminded of this every day and i couldn't be any happier than this.

i think it's sad when there are "wanna bes" around,i have known a few time to time and in the long run they didn't know what was right or what is wrong and ended up hospitalised over it.sometimes unfortunately that happens and i know as for myself and probally for others who are real to this life that we all hate for that to happen.

I do not know why people use this term. I do not know why people see it as negative. I do not use the term myself. I think of it as a silly term because essentially, it has no meaning to me

From what I understand anyone whose profile says "all the women here are fakes and wannabes" is someone who has been turned down by all of the women he meets on here and is angry and confused that they can't see what a great guy he is.  Ergo the problem must be that they are just fakes and wannabes.

I had someone call me a fake and wannabe for saying I wasn't attracted to him - about a week before I committed to my Master.  So I just couldn't resist - I had to send him an email saying "I'm in a D/s relationship and you aren't.  I guess I'm not the 'wannabe' here." - no reply from him though

I personally see it as a big red warning sign saying "THIS MAN HAS BEEN REJECTED BY EVERY WOMAN HE HAS EVER MET.  THERE IS LIKELY A REASON FOR THAT" and proceed with caution - if at all.

I've noticed the mis-use of the "wanna-be" term too! I think a much more deragatory term would be "Poseur" which denotes being a total fake, feigning experience and status within a community, while "wanna-be" simply means someone has recently had an interest sparked in it.

But that is my definition of a "wanna-be": a novice who is rather desperately trying to fit in and get more information and experience about WWD.

Quite often people on this site (yes including me) get caught up in the Webster's definition of a word. They will not use the word masochist unless the person could be walking down the street and get punched in the face and enjoy it.

The OP asked what a wanna-be is in relation to when it is seen on profiles. I completly agree with xoxi if you see a profile that "all" of the oppisite sex is a wanna be the there is some problem on the other end. Now id you get a (usualy women) person saying that they are tired of being contacted by wanna-bes they are usually refering to people that call themselves "Dom" or "sub" that want to be able to enjoy the benifits of the lifestyle without putting forth the effort.

Hello, my name is Sage and I am a wanna-be.

I wanna-be:
The best person I can be.
True to myself and my beliefs always.
The kind of Companion my Man thinks I am.
A slut in the bedroom and a lady outside.  (Ok, I'm a slut all the time...lol)
A cool mum.
Honest and forthright in my dealings with others.
An honourable woman.
The joy and the pride in my Man's eye.
A caring citzen.
Loyal and protective to those whom I claim as my own.
Tall when I grow up.

Except for that last one, I've done pretty damn good at becoming what I wanna-be.  I'm still working at it.  So yeah, I'm a wanna-be.

If you take the term on the words itself, it should mean - someone who wants to be something, but isn't.  The word "want" implies you don't have it, "to be" meaning in the future sometime.

When said in the context it is said it often implies someone who can never be what it is they think they want to be because they don't measure up or they are going about it in the "wrong" way, from someone elses subjective pov.  This is the problem with the term - anyone can be a wannabe depending on who is calling whom a wannbe. It implies a judgement on ones part of someone else's ability and or intentions.

Fakes, to me are pretty self explanatory. Wannabes, I would define as people who claim experience they dont have. Sometimes, its unintentional but the result is the same....wasted time and effort.

Generally people using either the word fake or wannabe are generic put downs to people who they feel slighted them in some way. Whether lied, did not answer back positively or for whatever reason gets these tags on the other side.

When I see most people using it on the other side with reference to a more true definition of a person wanting to be this but is not yet it still is tainted by insecurity. It is a go to term for all the people who fail to recognize human beings are complex with many factors for compatibility. How dare someone doubt or not be interested in me because I am real with real time experience. That makes me wise safe and all knowing which all others on here are not so I should be automatic first in line for your consideration.

It just another tool in a long line of tools for insecure people to vent frustration and chest thump their greatness. I am real all others are wannabes.

Its like the word "slut" which means "she sleeps with anyone but me" and in the case of bdsm people it means "I am too childlike and immature to realize we had a parting of the ways"...
