'Jeanne Assam appeared before the news media for the first time Monday and said she "did not think for a minute to run away" when a gunman entered the New Life Church in Colorado Springs and started shooting.'

A very compeling story,and video.

Why would she, she had a gun.
She knew he was there but he didn't know she was there (with a gun.)
They said on the News last night that there could have been a hundred casualties had she not shot that pos.

I’m confused. After looking at a few different reports, the story seems to be. Young man goes to missionary dormitory at Faith Bible Chapel, Arvada, becomes angry when told he can’t stay, so starts shooting..

Hours later he is at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, where he is killed by a fasting security guard who just happens to be credited with the idea of beefing up security in light of the previous shooting.

Furthermore, said shooter was a former member of Love Fellowship Church, Denver, and his uncle is a long time friend of the director of the place in Arvada.

Also, the shooters mother is in charge of the Love Fellowship’s women’s ministry, also, the director of the place in Arvada, and long time friend of the shooters uncle described the shooter as a stranger.

Have I got this right?

Actually after reading some News articles about it the guy had 1,000 rounds of ammo so this could have been considerably worse than it was!
And in some blogs the Lefties are going bonkers because this involves two of their favorite subjects, "God" and "Guns!" lol!

I have watched her interviews a lot on the news, lately.
I admire her a lot.
She said her hands weren't even shaking, I question whether she gave him a warning though.
I don't see her giving him a warning, and him not shooting her.
She probably saved at least 50 -100 lives.

Why would she need a warning shot? As it says in the subject line - God guided her

OH, I didn't say she needed to give one, but she stated on t.v. that she gave the guy a warning, before
she shot him, I bet he did not hear her.
Maybe she said it under her breath.

Apparently she's a former police officer, standard training includes something to the effect of 'Drop the weapon' while drawing and moving... that probably kicked in.

Good for her.  It could have been a lot worse than it was.

Um... if God had been guiding her, couldn't he have had her shoot the jerk in a non-leathal way? Or, for that matter, if he were really looking out for his followers, couldn't God have just made the gunman's weapon jam? Or given the gunman a heart attack?

I agree. She's a hero. She did what had to be done... but somehow, I think God didn't take a hand one way or another. If she needs to tell herself that, to cope with what all went down, then fine. I just find the whole thing a tradgedy all the way around... from the gunman who was turned away from the church he attended, to the folks who got killed and wounded, to the families that are left behind to grieve. (BTW, has anyone even asked what it was that made this kid "hate christians" so much? Just curious.)

Yea, something else that confused me; how, after seeing him in the hallway then ducking for cover was she able to asses the amount of weaponry he had? I mean, do you think she stood there staring at him? Would you?

What would have been the liability of having an Armed Security Guard working who was just coming off of a 3 day fast, should she have injured a bystander?

I have been unable to find the article I had seen earlier titled something to the effect “Gunman wanted to be missionary”, but it stated that he had been enrolled in the missionary school, but was not allowed to go on a mission because the organization decided issues with his health made it unsafe for him to do so.

Instead I found this one which mentions that, but not in the same wording as the fore mentioned.

Motive: Revenge

If you believe in God and the bible, then you have to believe in it all.

Isaiah 45:7
7 I form the light and create darkness,
      I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the LORD, do all these things.

This means that all things good and bad, come from God.

If you look at it from an eastern philosphy perspective, death is a part of life, and the natural conclusion to life.

Whether God had a hand in it or not, apparently her faith and belief did. It all depends upon what someone defines as God. If you define it as a higher power, which could include your moral code and super ego, then it could be that. Nothing wrong with belief, until you try to force it on others.

As far as the news story goes, I wonder if some teachers in schools were willing to take police training, and carry a weapon, if some of the killings sprees of the past would have been less?

She shot and killed another human being.  "Heroic" or not, that can screw with a personal's emotional state.  Someone who already has their whole life prospective and sanity based in a Santa Clause-is-real like assumption?  She's on edge.

It seems to me that she needs to proclaim it was God.. that she needs to buy into it and reinforce it as much as possible to look away from the reality of what happened.  As long as "God guided [her]", she's not responsible for taking another human life, for better or for worse.  And if "God" wasn't involved in such a climatic time in her life, especially while in a church, that'd call all of her beliefs into question.. which, as heavily reliant as she is on the belief, she probably just can't afford.

I guess this is all just so predictable, yet so entirely disgusting to see played out.  It makes my stomach turn to hear people resorting to such madness to maintain their grip on objective reality, to whatever fuctional level it may exist.  It's like watching someone tormented to the point of insanity, proclaiming to love the pain for the sake of not having to deal with the dispare of being out of control.

If only I were a sadist, this would be so much more appreciable.

Cl, I think you nailed it.
She was using God to rationalise what she did.
That's ok I guess if it works for her.
If it were me that did it I'd be thanking my time at the gun range for being a good shot and condemning that sick fuck for killing 4 innocent people.
This just shows that armed citizens are very important to have around!

Nope, not just any armed citizen, after all,the perp was an armed citizen, wasn`t he?

I think the preacher had it correct and spot on,when he said(more than once)that it should be a trained, and SCREENED security person or persons that are armed and doing that work. Not the average "pistol-pack`n Popeye" on the street.Though I`m sure Popeye would have done the same thing the lady did.

The NRA dildos, want a free-for-all of guns, for every kook and his kookier brother, without screening or checks or anything. They don`t want any controls or oversight. They help arm the nuts and bottom feeders.

I'd rather take the chance of some nutjob going crazy with a gun ( which, by the way, you have the *exact* *same* *chance* of that happening now -- the only difference is *now* there are fewer armed-responders on the immediate scene... ) than some nutjob working for the Government making the decision of who can own what property, and with what conditions and restrictions.

What part of "Shall Not Be Infringed" is so hard to understand?

Apparently ... the coroner's report states the shots she got in on the waste of flesh WERE non-lethal.  The shot that took out the cowardly fuck was self inflicted.

What part of well regulated,is so hard to understand?

I`m with the preacher, who said (twice),that he wanted armed personnel on the grounds, but who were trained, screened, and under the control of the church.

I doubt he would want multiple un-known gun toaters on his campus, with 7000 plus people there. It would be interesting to know how he felt about that, though.

Even in "right to carry states" like Arizona, private land owners can exclude guns from their property,no matter what the NRA says.
