I learned about BDSM when I was 19 and have been involved in it since. I first learned about it from my then boyfriend and then went on to learn more and more about it. And I am still learning. Once I became more involved in BDSM I realized I had alot of thoughts and feelings that I didnt realize were about BDSM when I was young as I can remember. I used to play with tying up and being tied up when I was just a kid.

The Internet is both a wonderful and horrible thing. I discovered kink of all varieties when I was only 13. The Internet was in its infantile stages yet the purveyors of porn had already crawled their way across the net.

I started long, long before my teens and only learned that there were special words for what I was doing later.  I grew up in podunk but was (and am) someone who likes to learn about as much as I can, so I knew I liked to be in control, manipulate, and had certain semi-unusual interests both sexually and non-sexually so I pursued information about them in a quiet and sneaky manner, haha, because doing so openly would've brought my parents down hard upon me...

But yes, long before I had the words for it I was doing it.  It's just always been a part of how I interact with others, be it in a stated BDSM relationship, PE dynamic or in the "vanilla" world.

My first long-term power-exchange, D/s, relationship started in 2nd grade and lasted until I was 19.

Uh, you know, there are these things, they are called books, every hear of them?

I read many, many books when I was a young one, since I had these desires since the earliest age I can remember. I learned about the lifestyle through books and then through activity starting at 16.

There really was a world of imagination and thought before computers.

By the time the Internet came along I was way far gone...  I do blame the interwebs for all these kids who are flooding the place!   <G>

Indeed!  We didn't get internet in my hometown until I was 18, a senior in high school.  I'd been practicing power exchange naturally for 13yrs by then and aggressively knowing there were words for it and setting out on purpose for between 5 and 7 years...  I started reading books and discussing with friends the same age and older and such long before internet was available!

I'm sure there's plenty of room at the shuffle board courts and bingo halls for an "old fogies only" dungeon.*

On a serious note: Yeah. A lot of us who are younger (18-29) and say we discovered it in our teens or younger...It's mostly thanks to the internet. I really think we're the vanguard for a new generation of BDSM culture. Whether that's good or bad is open for debate.

When I was fifteen I saw Nick Brumfield's "Fetishes" documentary on HBO, or Showtime or something.  We were in our hotel room on a dance trip and all of the other girls were totally grossed out, and were only watching the shows out of morbid fascination.  I pretended to be turned off too, but inside I was like YES,YES, YES.  I just knew.  Of course I didn't explore the interests right away, and for a while I tried to 'cure' myself, but eventually, muuuuuuuuch later I had to explore all the things that had first turned me on so strongly.

Oh, and coming in from the other angle... I've always had a hard time understanding those who don't find they have an interest in PE or BDSM until they are in their 30s, 40s, 50s, or up.

I accept it, of course, but I don't understand it.

For me, it's always been there, it's always been part of how I relate to others, it's always been a part of who I am and what I like.  And as I said, the only thing that I "discovered" was that there were special words for what me and my friends, acquaintances, lovers and partners had been doing for years and more toys pre-made out there to do it with.

I accept that others come to it later in life, but it isn't something I can wrap my mind around... it's just too foreign to me.

Same here. If you think teens are shocking, you don't wanna know when i started having bondage fantasies

One rather ironic place i picked up some things: the Meese Commission's Report on Pornography. Rather explicit for a public school library, believe it or not.

People talked about S&M when I was a teen. There was some references to it in fashion. There were those who wore leather collars and the like. Mostly people talked about it and snickered about people who "liked it rough" or wanted a "spanking". I did not know about a lifestyle surrounding it until I read Penthouse forum in my early 20s

Internet. The one thing my parents forbade me from doing on the internet was going into chat rooms, because they had heard such terrible things about children giving people their information, getting abducted, etc...

So one of the very first things I did was go into a chatroom on Yahoo. After maybe six months I realized that there were a lot more chatrooms than the general ones that appeared on the front page...adult chat? What's that? BDSM, bondage, what?? I thought I knew about sex but I didn't know what those meant. AND SO IT ALL BEGAN...this was in 1999, I was 12.
The first time I masturbated (about 2 years later) it was after reading a story from Castle Realm or one of those sites. It involved a man taking his sub to a restaurant with her hands cuffed under her cloak, with a lot of other play involved...does this sound familiar to anyone? I have tried to find it since with no luck.

We all live under a rock. It's just a matter of where and how big that rock is. I knew of BDSM when I was very young (under 10), and started knowingly living out aspects (non sexually) of it as early as 12, not knowingly as early as 5. BDSM can be something as simple as having a wee bit of power over another and being manipulative ( or vice versa ), or as complex as many hardcore lifestylers live out their lives each day. Now, did I know all the labels and possibilities I do now? No. Those I gathered over the years since then and now, mostly still while I was younger however. We all learn things every day.

I learned initially from deep rooted feelings and desires in myself, but then after seeing things on the TV and internet I found more outlets for my interests. I suppose I was different, where most people say "I thought I was the only one" I always thought there was a world out there just like me. In some ways I was right, while in others, I still am the only one it seems.

yes i always thought i was different as well, but i grew up in an enviornment where submission was considered a good thing, heck i mean look at latin families like mine and the women are dominated all the time!  and im a survivor of rape and sexual abuse, i guess i flipped it and made those feelings work to my advantage.....and now i couldnt be happier!
