Kalista07 -> RE: Who broke the front page? (12/21/2007 10:32:18 AM)

Okay, so i just woke up after *many* hours of sleep which is the first time in about 20 days.....i can not tell You how irritating and frustrating it is to come on here and see this pointless bitch fest continued... i mean seriously....Some people just are addicted to bitching and complaining...And that's fine...And they are "well within their rights" to behave as such....But honest to God, if they don't shut the heck up i will be provoked to the point of violence.... Seriously folks, do You understand what it means to be a volunteer??!! It means You don't get paid!! It means You dont' get thanked!!! It means no one appreciates or values Your work!!! And worse yet, people sit around and bitch and complain and make unfounded accusations against You...So i maintain my "suck it up or shut the *%#$  up movement."  Seriously, some people need to geet a grip, a clue, or exposed to 2 x4 therapy....
Okay, i'm better now,
Kali

Who besides me thinks this will decrease the number of profiles actually being read?

I agreed with your logic of your first post. The number of actual readers is fewer than we'd like to think. I read eventhough I am not seeking if someone seems interesting. Though I agree for the non-readers that they will simply email based upon what they see. I can follow your thinking though the pictured (if one has a pic) profile blurbs that run across the front page already do that. However, on those one can at least see the profile description which one or a couple has written. Unwanted CMails for some mean nothing and to others it is a problem especially if CMail volume is very high. Then again, I just had to go delete 6 pages of mails as they could not read at the top of my short profile in capital letters ''not seeking other than friends'' with an explanation. You see how this could go on with 'on the other hand,' ad infinitum?

I would also like to mention that the slam fest is rather unbecoming. Someone began this thread for the purpose of other's opinions on the new changes. That is the topic at hand, not how anyone views anothers posts as being. Let us just jello wrestle, I vote lime green and stop fighting. Perhaps others see something of value to argue about on this thread though I just don't.

Waits to be slammed now. [8D] lol

Warm Wishes

The part I quoted, where you assume that Collarme is designed to be a money-making operation.

Or this:

quote:

What do you think the goal of most websites are? Unless it is a blog or informational site, most dating sites, which I think collarme can be classified as, are in it for the eventual goal of making money.

Really, how on earth can you pretend to know the "eventual goal" of the people running this site?  Have you been involved in the design of this site at any stage?  I doubt it.

And why are you so emotional about this, anyway?  You sound as though people are disrespecting your knowledge of web marketing.

Maybe the "grim reality" is that they want to provide the world's only meaningful free BDSM website, and they bring in advertisers only in order to make that a possibility.  Ever thought of that business model?

quote:

ORIGINAL: sexyred1

This may not help your frustration with not being heard here, but the grim reality is that given this business model, I am sure whomever runs this site cares only to a small degree about what we like or dislike about the site, contrary to what you think they might care relevant to advertisers.

WTF? Hello? I agree with you, which part of my many posts explaining this did you not understand?

You know, I am sick of you complaining dorks. I was the ONLY person who EVEN tried to RATIONALLY EXPLAIN the set up of the site, and how it is NOT A PROFITABLE ADVERTISING MODEL.

MOD 11 confirmed what I took my precious time to write. And guess what? All the negative posters (sexypet??) who say no one listens to them rant and rave, not ONE of them acknowledged the practicality of what I contributed. Apparently no one posting here who is complaining has one iota of knowledge of what it takes to design a pay per click advertising model.

Why do you presuppose monetizing the traffic is the primary goal?

What do you think the goal of most websites are? Unless it is a blog or informational site, most dating sites, which I think collarme can be classified as, are in it for the eventual goal of making money.

Unless this is purely a labor of love on the part of the owners, in which case, that makes the complaints even more unjustified as then money would have nothing to do it.

If the site owners are not motivated by money and only by their own personal reasons for having the site up, then why risk losing such a fun site by complaining about aesthetics?

This IS a labor of love on the part of the site owners, and the advertising doesn't even pay the bills.

I didn't even notice the change until I saw this thread. I don't venture over to the other side as much as I'm here but....I really like the way it's set up. Like it or not though, gosh folks, there certainly have to be more important things in life to rally against than this???

Hon, I am not emotional, don't read so much into web-speak. I could give a crap about it really. I am just wasting time till my hot date tonight.

I notice they increased the displayed result set... BETTER. It *might* be the compromise between the performance limits of the infrastructure, and the best format for displaying data... ( FWIW, I like larger sets... 50 at a minimum... But well understand how you can't make these Windows boxes work too hard... )

More results would affect the speed of page display which is a concern for some users that do not have high speed connections.

You're right... In our "Settings' we should be able to select the number of results returned... That way people on dial-up or mobile browsers could set it to, say-5, and people like me could set it to 50, ( given the ability of the system to elegantly handle that chore... ALWAYS we must work within the constraints of the tools at hand... Unless, maybe we have a forge, in which case, we can create whatever tools we need... Ok, maybe that's a poor metaphor...

If it's a labor-of-love, then their primary satisfaction derived is in PRIDE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT.

In creating a Public Venue, the best measure of accomplishment is the satisfaction of the people using that venue. You ignore your audience at your own peril.

FANS are better than Customers. You *can* monetize both markets, but the FANS go out of their way to help you. *IF* it was needed, I would certainly consult on my technical areas of expertise, gratis, because I enjoy what I do, and I like contributing to the Community at Large.

Maybe they just like the Good Karma generated by doing something nice for people they've never met? It sure cuts down on the speeding tickets!

Amen, amen, and amen - and enjoy your date tonight:)

Edited to add: There is nothing wrong with having preferences, or not liking the way something is. I see complaining about this site as telling someone who just gave you a gift, "Well thanks and everything, but I was hoping for something a bit better, and maybe a different color, and actually, I wish you had gotten me something else.".

It's a gift. Say thank you.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Who broke the front page? (12/21/2007 11:26:53 AM)

I read all of that: fascinating.

I enjoyed the business model talk etc.

Thanks, now did someone mention jell-o wrestling? I shan’t be participating unless the jell-o is green in colour. I demand my say as to the colour of the jell-o dammit!

i have seen no one say theyre not thankful for this site.....the only folks with their knickers in a bundle are ones who seem to think it goes against all that is twue to say  gee collarme i dont like this new format.

no one has screamed for violence, or made personal attacks except the few who seem to think offering an opinion is a crime against all the hard work the mods etc do.

it is ok to say i do not like the new format.......collarme can decide if they respond to that or not......why so many feel the need to call folks who said they didnt like it a bunch of names is beyond me.

id imagine many changes have been made and changed and remade and rechanged, as they try to learn what works the best.  no one is threatening to leave, or calling the wonderful folks that keep collarme afloat names.

its offering an opinion, which is what this side of the site is all about.

the absolute venom that has been spewed in this thread amazes me........you would think someone mentioned being twue or weal or sumthin.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Who broke the front page? (12/21/2007 11:35:32 AM)

I’m indifferent to the format because it’s a website not a holiday camp. The only measure of success is how long your profile has been here and you’ve been searching.[:D]

farglebargle -> RE: Who broke the front page? (12/21/2007 11:39:38 AM)

For *some* people, maybe it is a Holiday Camp?

That aside, can we get the column back for slave/sub/dom/switch on the results? It makes figuring out who is who a bit easier?

farglebargle -> RE: Who broke the front page? (12/21/2007 11:45:03 AM)

I suffer from reading too many comic books back in the days of hand lettering. The technical term for it is "Comic Case"

It's that, or highlighting the WHOLE WORD to suggest a 'bold' attribute.

It's typography for a simpler time. Telexes. Some of us never really left 7 bits of data behind....

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Who broke the front page? (12/21/2007 11:46:37 AM)

Oh I see thanks I shall look it up.

PainCompliant -> RE: Who broke the front page? (12/21/2007 12:00:48 PM)

I'm one who finds the new approach far less efficient.  I also spent a number of years as a manager for a volunteer site.  What was true there is true here - communicate.  Let people know the what and why of what is happening.  There is an announcement forum at the top of the message boards.  Perhaps site management could use it for an announcement ahead of such a major change and, once it is implemented, like now, let us know if they agree about some of the issues raised here and if there are any areas they are looking to rework.

Thanks for the work that management and volunteers put into this site.  I know y'all put a lot of time into it. But thanks also to the users who, by their participation, keep this site vital.
