Sexyred: Bullcrap. Just because you deem it minor, does not mean the millions of Jews who celebrate Hanukah deem it minor. It is not highlighted simply because it occurs in close proximity to Christmas.
How incredibly offensive of you to post that. I will be sure and tell all my Jewish ancestors how unimportant their holiday is next to the major holiday of the Western culture.
Well, how nice that you post your ignorance for all to see. It is a minor holiday. I am a practicing Jew with a fair amount of education in our religion. "Minor" does not mean Hanukkah is unimportant (your word, not mine). I simply meant that the holiday is a lesser one in the canon. Along with Tub'shvat, Purim and several other holidays, by the way, and in contrast with the "big Three": Pesach, Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur (and of course, Shabbat, which is clearly the most important holiday). And yes, in the West Hanukkah is pretty clearly overemphasised because of its proximity to Christmas...or does your brand of uniformed Judaism include a Hanukkah bush, presents on every day, and "Chanukah Charlie"?
Sexyred, your post clearly demonstrated that rudeness and ignorance knows no season. To everyone else, a happy holiday whatever you celebrate.
