Actually you are right on one thing I do have religious intolerance. I hate religion and everything associated with it. And you may see it as warmth and blessings but just because you see it that way doesn't mean I do. I have had too many bad experiences with religion and people telling me im going to hell for my beliefs to see religion as a warm fuzzy feeling when most times it is not. I am completely not being inconciderate. I am stating my feelings on the matter and stating ones personal feelings is not being inconsiderate. If they bother you so much you don't have to post here.

Fine - hate the religion - despise it, loathe- do whatever you wish and however you want it to dominate your feelings.
But hating an entire religion based on a minority of people who have treated you unfairly?  Hating everyone?  Interesting.
Well, your choice on how you allow them to touch you of course.  But you made assumptions on why they were saying happy or blessed *insertwhatevereligiousfestivalhere*.  And yes you are being inconsiderate by making an assumption and not talking to the person instead to know why they blessed you.

And I will answer the the post if I choose - you posted - deal with the replies as they come, don't do the whole 'if you don;t like it, leave it' whine.  You posted your view - am I not 'allowed' to post mine?

And really - I am beginning to take your post less seriously - if you are so religiously intolerant why are you dressed as an angel?  Or are you just giving what you get?

Damn now I want red velvet cake!

It's not all that difficult to assume someone saying "Merry Christmas" is merely wishing you well regardless of whether they got your personal religion correct or not.  Intolerance of organized religion in general is one thing  (I personally have a bit of this when it becomes a sword and tool to judge and criticize instead of a safe haven to worship), intolerance or ignorance of another's personal religion when they share it with you and it is obviously important to them is merely rude.

Happy holidays whatever that may mean to all of you!

Okay..I never said I hated an entire religion or an entire set of people so please don't make asumptions. I also never said that I hate everyone, which I don't. You don't need to be so nasty and mean about it, telling me im whining and critisising me so much I don't recal critisising you. I also once again, never told you not to post I just said you didint have to if you didin't want to.

And my dressing as an angel is just because I love dressing up. I was never rude to you, I was just stating my opinions. So before you decide to start critisising something else about me personally, know this. Any arguement stops here. Let us agree to disagree. Fair enough?

Because as we go through each day, dealing with those things we need to deal with, it's easy to take the big picture for granted.  That's why when someone dies, or someone experiences trauma, we are reminded of those things we really are grateful for.  You get up each day expecting everything to (relatively) be the same as yesterday, so our focus is on the little things that need contending with, and we might get wrapped up in ourselves and in our day, forgetting to celebrate our humanhood and those we love.

So having a day to remind us, be it a holiday, birthday, anniversary, funeral, wedding, etc...brings us back into focus.

"Us" is relative and does not represent everyone.  But that's my take on it.

I did not make an assumption, I responded to what you told me yourself - here it is -

You made an absolute statement (see above) - again no assumption - you told me yourself.  And you are correct - you never said 'everyone' that was my error in typing I should have typed *everyone of religion* so I do apologise for my slight error.  However, I did not assume, I had only your own words to work with.  You stated you hated religion and everything associated.  That would include the peoples.

That is your assumption.  I am simply honest, you define that as nasty.  Again, be responsible for you own feelings and my suggestion is to not second guess what people are dong or saying.  And I did wish to post thank you.

You were rude the moment you stated your hate for 'everything associated with religion'.  Amazing how rudeness is purely subjective, isn't it.  You critisised religon, yet no one can be a little critical of you?  Interesting double standard.  We can of course agree to disagree, but I do not argue, simply discuss - there was no 'argument' on my part.  I just find it conflicting that for someone whom professes to hate religon and everything associated, that you should dress as an angel, is all.
Or am I not allowed to 'state my thoughts and feelings'?

Good point, Sugaree, but getting folks to do that for even a day is no mean feat.

Summerblossom, its as simple as this.  I have never in my 21 years of life celebrated Kwanzaa, Hannukah, or any other December holiday, except Christmas, but when someone goes out of their way to say "Happy/Merry Whatever", I atleast pull the stick outta my ass and respond politely.  No one EVER means offense by it.  Its not like we all have neon signs over our heads saying what we celebrate, and you cant expect people to know.  Just liven up a lil bit.  Its the holiday season for all that happy stuff.  Its NOT the end of the world if one more person wishes you a Merry Christmas, or something other than what you, or anyone for that matter celebrates.

One of my favorite passage from A Christmas Carol conveys that point beautifully imho:

“Nephew!” returned the uncle sternly, “keep Christmas in your own way, and let me keep it in mine.”

“Keep it!” repeated Scrooge’s nephew. “But you don’t keep it.”

“Let me leave it alone then,” said Scrooge. “Much good may it do you! Much good it has ever done you!”

“There are many things from which I might have derived good, by which I have not profited, I dare say,” returned the nephew; “Christmas among the rest. But I am sure I have always thought of Christmastime, when it has come round—apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that—as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore, uncle, though it has never done put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe it has done me good and will do me good; and I say, ‘God bless it!’”

Personally I take offence at the assumption that I am a Christian as well. Seasons Greetings or Happy Holidays works just as well, and it offends no one. Heck, I've taken to wishing people "Happy Hogswatch" (read the Diskworld novels by Terry Pratchett) just to confuse instead of offend. And for all you Christians who are offended by that, remember 2 things. 1: your religion was the one doing about 80% of the religious persicution throughout the eons, and 2: Christmas was actually hijacked from the Druids and has absolutly no real baring to when Christ was born. (That Christmas Tree in your living room, origianaly it was a symble of the God and was planted in the Hearth of the Home (reprosenting the Goddess) as a symble of the act of creation in order to bring back life to the world, in other words, you have the religious symbol of a penis in your living room.)

Anyone who takes offense at being assumed to be a Christian really needs a hobby. I'm not a Christian, but if I was offended at such an assumption, I would be taking a long hard look what is really that important in my life and what isn't.

I celebrate the pagan aspects of the Winter Solstice... that means getting a Christmas tree and  presents.... mistletoe... reindeer... snowman building.

I was laughing at my mom because she made some comment about disliking the Baby Jesus iconography because she thinks it is disrespectful to Jesus the man... her reasoning is that if Jesus was perfect then he was always innocent and pure... why do people want to remember him as a baby?

I replied to my mom "Don't be hatin' on the Baby Jesus!"

Well I've mentioned Hannaukah regularly through the month since I celebrate it with my partner.  I was a bit surprised more people didn't post about it, but I'm not Jewish and it's not a big deal to me to talk about it here.

I also celebrate the solstice turnover and christmas.  I don't do it as a member of any particular religion, simply as a celebration of important concepts and people in my life.  It brings me joy.

I admit a bit of odd feeling that so many christians are so uneducated about their history that they don't realize that they pretty much stole existing holidays and traditions and slapped on the christian label to assimilate and take over the people they otherwise killed and oppressed and that a heck of a lot of christians in days past would find modern day celebrations to be pretty darn evil and sinful.

That doesn't mean that our celebrations today aren't "christian" or good as they define it, simply that it's not as simple as saying "we hang stockings and put lights on trees and buy you a Wii to signify our lord and savior being born in a manger."

LOL add me to the list of people who realize that Hannuakah is a minor holiday in the Jewish faith.  She should go notify her local rabbi.

It's important to remember that Christmas is a major holiday, whereas Hanukah is a minor one. Considering that they occur so close together, it does make sense that Christmas overshadows Hannukah. Also, Christmas is a major money-making holiday whereas Hanukah isn't so there aren't a lot of decorations or ornaments and other sorts of things lining Wal-Mart. If there was money to be made off it, I'm sure they would be there.

That said, I do understand why people get irked by it. I've switched to "Happy Holidays" as it means "Happy Holy Days", a phrase I'm more comfortable with.

Honestly, one of the things I like about the holiday is that it has resisted becoming "the Jewish Christmas".
