Status: offline 		Seems to me that this thread is less about closed minds and religion and more about closed hearts and human beings. Just a thought.

Happy_______(fill in the blank) Is this what we should begin saying so as to not offend anyone? Happy, insert your celebration here? I am not Christian nor Jew though am not offended when wished a Merry Christmas. As I said, take it in the spirit in which it is said or perhaps what you lack is spirit. I celebrate Christmas and Eid ul Adha. Big whoop, it's all about goodwill towards others and I will accept that no matter the words used to express that.

edited to add; Do all of you so offended by this wish in turn smile a genuine smile, say nicely ''I am sorry I don't celebrate Christmas but a Merry Christmas to you'' Huh? I sincerely doubt so.

Very nice post Moloch. If someone wishes me "happy whatever" i never take it as them being rude or assuming i am of the same religion. i just see it as they are extending me greetings and i return the compliment.

Jumpin gophers on a pogostick...ITS A GODDAMN HOLIDAY SEASON.  Think about someone other than yourself.  Forget that it offends you.  Focus on the fact that above all, its about being with your families.  I dont care if youre Christian, Jewish, Mormon, Scientologist, or Pastafarian, or if you worship the friggin Underpants Gnomes.  I am sick and tired of seeing individuals who are more life advanced than myself, getting all bent outta shape over something so fucking trivial.  Wear a sign around your neck from now on.  Or wish them a Happy {Insert Whatever} as "retaliation", IF you should wanna be so juvenile.  But, what do I know?  I'm just a person who could give a shit less about the holiday meanings as long as it means I get to spend one more in good health with my family...

I often went to school on Jewish holidays only to sit
alone with the teacher.

In all my years with them I was never wished a Happy
Hannukah. [that I can remember. Most did wish me a
Merry Christmas and celebrated Christmas right along
with us getiles.

Since Dec 25 is not, never has been and never will be
the day Crist was born I do not celebrate as such.

BUT I let my white beard grow longer and don a Santa
hat from Nov 26 to Dec 26 and celebrate it as a
commercial holiday.

Very few people know about the concurrent holidays to
Christmas. So what if it isn't YOUR holifsy the person is
wishing you peace and joy. Just say thank you and move-on

Yes i said the dreaded phrase.  But why would it be wrong to wish you the best of my bliefs.  We are in a world where political correctness has watered everything down to tasteless pap, where no authenticity is valued.  Here at least, we should be able to be authentically who and what we are, and be truthful about it.  After all, many of the precipes of BDSM are fully dependent on honesty.  If i know you hold a different belief, of course i would acknowledge it, but it would still not be wrong for me to wish you my best.  Quite frankly, i am tired of appologising to the minority, because they do not follow the same belief system i do.

Status: offline 		Okay, you all need to calm down and relax, this post started off as a mere opinion and has been blown out of proportion 10 fold by nasty flames and people acting as if they are on their period. When I said I was offended first of all, I meant very mildy offended. In fact, in general, I don't get offended that easily and am not taking these posts as seriously as most of you are. Secondly I will not argue with any of you, it seems, some of you, one person in particular really loves nasty arguements. I don't, in fact I hate arguements.Nextly lets get one thing clear right now, when I said I was offended it didint mean that I act on it! Good lord people! When someone wishes me a happy holiday or whatever I ALWAYS respond kindly, NEVER in a rude manner. So you can all just calm down, and take this as what it was intended to be, a polite, light, discussion, nothing more, nothing less. But if you really insist on arguing and flaming , please I ask you nicely to take it to private chat and not polute the message boards with your negativity. Now remember what I said before you make asumptions okay? I NEVER RESPOND RUDELY AND AM NEVER MEAN  TO PEOPLE THAT WISH ME A HAPPY HOLIDAY IN WHATEVER FORM. I was just stating a mere annoyance, thats all. (And no I'm not saying this to everyone, I know that some of you responded to other things. Thanks and have a Good Holiday. Really for those of you that this is really upseting, I have let it go and you should too.

What you and so many others are failing to see or hear because it is not your true way, is that Hanukah is not minor at all, but to some Jews, any holiday is cause to celebrate as a FAMILY HOLIDAY.

So your suggest to whoever "she" is is quite unfounded since I am sure "her" local Rabbi or for example, my recently deceased grandfather who was a Rabbi, would not be arguing about the merits of minor vs. major, which is purely subjective, but more about what an individual considers major, in my family's case, which is the ONLY thing that matters, all holidays spent in the Jewish tradition are MAJOR.

This is the kind of thing that no amount of link searching can or will ever be able to show you or anyone else posting on this thread.

All of the flames here putting people down for their differing beliefs in how they weigh any holiday vs. how society in general views a holiday...have got to be a new low, even for collarme.

I never view christmas as only a christian holiday, more a timeof year unifying different beliefs and religions.  There are so many celebrations, from the 'birth of christ' (said a little ironically due to the date being vague), amaterasu, many drudic celebrations, and yule over the time period its one of the most 'shared'.  I'll deck the halls, use zuni prayer sticks and one year even had a sieve/colander on my doorstep
 
I tend to just enjoy the time we get to spend with family, and I am blessed because I have people to spend time with, that I never forget.

That's really it for me, too.  While I used to be a pretty conservative Christian, I no longer am.  But my family has a tradition of celebrating Christmas Eve with a huge family bash that anyone is invited to - friends, family of family, whatever.  All the Spanish traditions come out.  We sing Spanish carols - my uncle in his raspy voice leads the gang, the kids have a cute little talent show, we eat fudge and pastinos (Spanish cookie), dance the lingo, and laugh, laugh, laugh.   We've been doing this since I was little.  Christmas day we all get together again at my brothers, eat turkey, play cards, watch the little ones run around all hyper with their new toys, and just love being together.  Since our family has had so much tragedy in the last couple of years, there's a whole new level of gratitude for being able to be together.

For me, it's now a commercial holiday - much like Valentines Day and St. Patricks Day (say, aren't those days in which we honor Saints??).  I no longer care its reason; I'm just really happy to be with my family.  When someone wishes me a Merry Christmas, I think "Heck yeah, family festivities, it will be awesome." 

There is so much to be thankful for, and we miss it by focusing on the smaller things that we choose to let upset us.  That's not directed at anyone in particular; just a general comment from someone who used to do that.
